Are you sure?!

Ann and her nieceHi folks,

Hope you're all well and enjoying this great weather we've been having lately – we certainly did on my niece's big day (pictured). Life has been busy as usual Chez Dawson. Slightly more stressful what with being in the middle of GCSE's at the moment. It's the last lot for me – thank goodness.

Ann's son studyingI normally consider myself a relatively patient soul (although I'm sure others would beg to differ), but I tell you the virtue patience has been stretched to its limit this week! My youngest Jon and his take on "studying" has nearly pushed me over the edge – check out the photo! It's more like "Isn't this whole studying thing quite a lark really?"

Having said that, I remember my own version of studying for both the old O-Levels and my Scottish highers (our version of the A-Level) – always last! But I don't ever recall trying to pass off sunbathing as studying (did you notice the sun lounger by the way? An old TSV and very lovely too!).

Well that's my first "are you sure?". The second one is far more depressing. My brother was here for his usual Wednesday lunchtime visit yesterday. He loves music, so we had one of the music channels on TV. We put on the one that was playing two hours worth of "golden oldies".

Well shock horror! I was expecting a bit of Elvis, the Beatles or even something from the '70's and what do they play? Robbie Williams! I ask you, Robbie Williams, a golden oldie! Are you sure?! If he's a golden oldie then I reckon I should be on display in the Natural History museum (please don't all shout "amen")!

It's just one of those incidents that makes you suddenly feel your age! Is it just me? Please, there must be some of you out there with a similar story. Drop me a wee line and let me recover my youth a tad.

Take care you lovely lot.

    Hi there Anne,
Your recent blog – first you look great and your niece looked really
Good luck with your son’s studies – takes me back when my daughter
was sitting her A levels – talk about nightmares. Came home from work one day and she was in the lounge surrounded by dirty coffee
cups(loads of them). Her face when I asked why she hadn’t put these
in the dishwasher – it took all my strength not to strangle her there and then.
Agree about the “golden oldies” – Robbie Williams? Give us a break. What classification do us 78 year olds come under – “pre-
Take care – love to you and yours.

    Oh Mary!
Thank you for your lovely comments. Love your memories of exams with your daughter, and laughed out loud about you being prehistoric. You will have to write regularly and keep me smiling 🙂

Hi Anne! How are things? You and your niece are stunning in that photo and such a resemblance. Your sis would be so proud of you both. Must have been a bitter sweet day for you all. How did your brother get on? Any Italian trips planned? Everyone else has been away at least once so you need your trip! Hope the gcses go ok. Keep us updated! Enjoy the sun when it appears again! X

Oh Susan! It seems like an age! Hope you’re doing well.
Indeed the wedding was a lovely day and yes I did “blubber” a bit at the speeches. Brother didn’t come. Sadly he doesn’t do too well at these large events. Loves Christmas, birthdays etc with all the family but that’s really it. Yes I’ve got another blog about to come out on the up and coming Italian adventures, so do watch this space!
Always great to hear from you Susan. I was just wondering how you were doing.
Take care and please stay in touch.
