To celebrate the return of his Food Fest show – on air every Monday at 7pm – we caught up with the fab Andi Peters at QVC HQ this week to ask him some fun foodie questions. Andi revealed a passion for cookery going back to his childhood, and he even shared some of his favourite food brands with us. This might be one to read with a cuppa and a few biscuits by the way, in case you get peckish!
When and how did you become interested in food?
I’ve loved cooking since a young age. When I was a kid I loved helping my Mum out in the kitchen, my brothers and sisters weren’t that into it, but I always loved helping her cook. Since then I’ve kind of felt like the kitchen is my domain!
Working in TV has meant that I’ve been taken out for some very nice lunches where I’ve enjoyed eating some quite fancy food. I think that’s why I’m quite good at plating up my food, I just try to copy what I’ve seen in those restaurants!
Do you have a favourite QVC moment?
I really enjoy working with Dale, and all of the laughter that comes with it! What most people might not know is that we don’t rehearse before the Food Fest shows. Everything you see is totally off the cuff. The two of us have a very unique relationship!
What are some of your favourite food brands at QVC?
Gower Cottage Brownies definitely has to be up there – they are a brand I brought to QVC. I love Joe & Seph’s because I’m such a big popcorn fan. I also love working with Lance from H Forman & Son, I feel like I learn something new every time.
What do you like to cook at home?
When I’m cooking for myself I tend to go quite basic really, I stick to some protein and vegetables. I try not to eat too many carbs. Desserts are where I can really go to town though, mousses, cakes, muffins… and pastry! I’m definitely a pastry chef. A lot of people think it’s quite tricky, but it’s like a science. If you get the numbers right that’s all there is to it.
Is there anything you dislike cooking?
I can’t think of anything… That is what I love about the food we sell at QVC though, a lot of the work has been done for you so you can just get down to the enjoyable part.
Can you give us a hint of what to expect for the next few shows?
More hilarity! You can definitely expect some great food; food that’s easy to cook and delicious too. I hope to keep introducing brands to QVC also.
Thanks so much for chatting to us, Andi! You can feel free to bring some desserts in to QVC HQ anytime.
Tune in to Andi Peters’ Food Fest every Monday at 7pm until 30th November.
