Hello and Happy New Year! I can’t believe how quickly it all came and went.
My goodness I’ve got off to a busy start in 2018. For some reason I thought life would slow down through January whilst everyone gets over Christmas… but nope it was full steam ahead! There’s been birthdays, engagements and even a wedding already – all that after a wonderful street party on New Year’s Eve.Along with a group of good friends I headed down to Cornwall to celebrate New Year – I’m not sure if you’re aware but every year in St Ives they have a huge fancy dress party in the streets and town. Everyone who attends is all dressed up in whatever theme they’ve decided and it attracts folk from far and wide, with families, couples and groups in abundance. This year we opted for retro ski gear as our theme and it was perfect for the damp, cold weather plus I think we looked amazing. Luckily my group of friends are the type that really go for it in every aspect, so we had everything from headwear, goggles, earrings, footwear, vintage onesies and even luminous sun block!
In the few days prior to NYE we went on long windy beach and hill-top walks where we saw so many seals and even some dolphins. Ted came along for the trip too, we had to be careful a gust of wind didn’t blow him off the cliff top into the sea. He loved it so much, running along, leaving little paw prints in the sand – that’s where he’s in his element! In the evenings we cooked, drank homemade sloe gin and relaxed in the hot tub swapping stories and reminiscing about the good ole days.On NYE itself we headed out early in the evening all dressed in our retro attire and hit the town. It was buzzing and vibrant, everyone I saw was in fancy dress – it was so much fun especially after sinking a few of the local cider called Rattler – they certainly have a kick and get you rattled. At midnight or just before everyone hit the seafront for the fireworks – it was a wonderful display!
The drive back to London on New Years Day was slightly more demanding than I would have liked, six hours of busy traffic on a mild hangover – lucky old Ted slept all the way home. Still it was so much fun and I’d highly recommended it! Who knows where we’ll get to this year – there’s already been shouts of Edinburgh but between now and then there’s a whole year to enjoy! Why not help me with some recommendations for next NYE – post them in comments below.
