An Update on my Health, Fabulous Footwear and Fragrance

12

Some of you have very kindly asked about my health and how I am doing, so I figured it would be quickest and easiest to do an update here in my blog.

I am back at work full time and back in the full swing of it. I am still finding the adjustment a little bit tricky and have good days and bad days, but I am getting there. It has all gone reasonably well so far. That said, I am writing this to you from home, as I have had to take a few sick days off work as have been having a few heart related health issues. Nothing I hadn’t really expected to be honest. It would have been silly of me to think that I could go straight back into a full-time schedule, as I have done, without expecting a few bumps in the road. Fingers crossed the bumps are minor and very few and far between. I will be seeing my consultant and having some more tests next week and hopefully we will be able to get everything sorted. In fact, I am already feeling better, so I’ll probably be back at work by the time you read this, so you won’t even have noticed my absence hopefully. It’s a journey and I am still in the very early stages. Hopefully, as I travel along this road, the need to stop off for a recovery break will get less and less. I think if I can remember to go a bit easier on myself and not push myself as hard as I have done over the years, things will slot into place, but it’s not easy to undo the habits of a lifetime. Watch this space. Thank you all again for your kind thoughts and messages, they really do mean a huge amount to me.

Enough about me though. I had a great meeting with Keith from Vionic last week (such a nice, decent human being who really loves the Vionic brand) and he was telling me all about the great footwear he will be bringing to us for Spring/Summer 2019 and I must say, you have some treats coming your way! What’s wonderful about Vionic is their innovative biomechanical technology that is built into every shoe, giving you natural alignment and supporting you from the ground up.

Even better than that is the fact that they give you that support wrapped up in some gorgeous styles, and you know how I love a bit of style, so no one would ever know that your footwear is anything more than just super stylish. There are so many great looks coming up from the brand, keep your eye out for shows on air and check out the brand on our website.

Side note – Keith and myself ended up doubling the length of our meeting because we talked so much about fragrance. If you have known me for a while at QVC, you’ll know I am a real lover of quality fragrance. Keith happened to ask me what I was wearing and then rapidly admitted, looking a little sheepish, that he has never asked another man what his fragrance was, but he liked mine and was looking for a new one. So that set me off and I gave him 3 or 4 recommendations depending on what he was looking for in terms of fragrance notes, sillage, longevity and price point. I’m sure he won’t mind me telling you this? At least I hope he won’t! I think he got a lot more detail than he bargained for when he asked such a simple question.

I am always flattered when asked about what I am wearing. How I smell is very important to me and it got me to thinking that I would love to do a fragrance show on QVC sometime soon, as I rarely get to do them. I think people miss a trick with perfume/fragrance. It is the easiest way to transform yourself, your mood, how others perceive you. It is our most primal sense, the one we developed first as we evolved and it is the most directly connected to our brain, so it makes sense that it is the quickest way to transform how others perceive us. Oops, I’m going off on one again. Maybe I should leave this for a dedicated fragrance blog?

Speaking of fragrance though, I currently have the Miller Harris, Rose Silence, which I layer over an Oud fragrance I have and it never fails to get comments when I wear it.

If you love your beauty and fragrance, then have we got a treat for you! This week is the QVC UK beauty weekend on the 26th and 27th January. It couldn’t have come at a better time. I don’t know about you, but my skin feels rough and dry at the minute. I don’t know if it is the colder weather that has come in or the central heating or my convalescing, but I need some serious help. Whatever your beauty needs are, whatever you need help with, the QVC Beauty Weekend is here for you, in so many ways.

You can discover new brands, new products within your favourite brands or even new looks for your hair and make-up. So many brands are involved, so if skincare is your thing, then why not check out Gatineau, Decleor, Elemis and Liz Earle? Or, if your hair needs a bit of a boost, we have also got Philip Kingsley and Hairfix. Does your make-up bag need a makeover? No problem – Tarte, Bareminerals, IT Cosmetics and Benefit are all here for your benefit (see what I did there!)

There will be top-rated beauty items and products on special prices. Whatever you decide to try out, remember you have that 30 day money back guarantee and, best of all, during the weekend event, all the items will have £1.95 P&P, making it even easier to try something new or say hello again to some of your old friends in your beauty collection. Let the beauty shopping commence!

Until next time,

Miceal xxx

Hello Miceal. I can identify with your love of fragrance. Even if I’m working from home and being a hermit, I still want fragrance. I don’t bother with any make up but fragrance is important to me. Like you, I want to smell nice! It’s irrelevant if I’m seeing anyone or not. It lifts my mood and my choice of fragrance is indicative of my mood. My daughter too seems to be pretty much the same. She might catch a whiff of something and say “ Oh that’s a mummy smell” or “ that’s a nana smell”.

So absolutely fragrance plays an integral part of facing the day!

Hi Miceal, glad to hear you have had a few days off and that you are looking after yourself. Be kind to yourself and don’t overdo it. Lovely blog as usual, I do enjoy reading them, I do agree with you about fragrance I wouldn’t dream of not using a perfume everyday! Take care of yourself and look forward to seeing you back on screen soon. Debbie X

Miceal I’m sorry you’ve experienced a hiccup in your health recovery. My mom used to say slow and steady wins the day.

    Hi Miceal,
Greetings and warmest best wishes to you from Co Kildare. I was so sorry to learn of your tough journey in past months. I think of you often and I pray your speedy and full recovery. I think too of your brother. Thank you for your heartfelt honesty, it is most touching and much admired. I know that you fretted about not having shared your health challenges with us from the outset. Please know, in my view, I hope shared by all, that you owed us absolutely no apologies. No guilt! In fact, there was never an obligation for you to do so, should that have been your preference. Thank you however for deciding to do so and for thereby inspiring by your honesty, courage, patience, diligence, compassion, kindness, selflessness, humour, and by your being, despite all you are going through, an obviously all-round wonderful man. Take care.
