For the football fans amongst you, you will recognise the phrase, ‘a game of two halves,’ well, that has certainly been the story of my week.
It started off so well with the kitchen fitters back in on Monday to finish things off, apart from the work surface which was to be fitted on Wednesday and the wiring up of the lights. We still have to have flooring laid but I need to make my mind up what we are having first! I’m really pleased with the work surfaces. We were originally going to have grey but at the last minute I changed my mind to have the white with grey flecks and sparkles… I do love a bit of sparkle as I’m hoping you did on Diamonique Day on Tuesday.
While the kitchen fitters were hard at work, I was up in London at my latest CML appointment. My professor had been pretty certain that my levels of the disease would have risen to the point where I needed to restart medication and, as I mentioned on here last week, I was a little nervous about possible side effects as it was to be a drug I hadn’t been on before. Well… my levels were lower than the prof had predicted so I have another three months (at least) medication free! I literally punched the air in the corridor outside his office!
Tuesday, as I mentioned, was Diamonique Day but also the 25th anniversary of my starting date with QVC UK. Although QVC’s 25th birthday is on October 1st, all the original presenters started training four weeks prior to that and our very first day was a photoshoot when the picture above was taken. We were going to open some bubbly to celebrate when I got home from work but I wasn’t feeling too great. I woke in the night too but it wasn’t until Wednesday morning that the 24 hour stomach bug really hit me! I can honestly say it is the worst bug of this type I have ever had. I did wonder if it was food poisoning but thought it unlikely as Chris had all the same things to eat as me and was absolutely fine and now I know for sure it was a bug as I’ve been up in the night with him and our son. Apparently it’s doing the rounds so if you should get it, my only crumb of consolation is that it doesn’t last long although I was totally wiped out the whole of yesterday too!
I will be in later at QVC but fortunately it is my weekend off so plenty of time to recuperate. That said, I will be missing two great Today’s Special Value offers – tomorrow it’s a six-piece Kelly Hoppen bedding collection (pictured above), and on Sunday Gatineau have a five-piece firming face and body collection. Oh well, just because I’m not working, it doesn’t stop me shopping although it has been quite an expensive time with the building work so maybe it’s for the best! Just as a heads up, it’s QVC Fashion Week next week so lots of great autumn fashion culminating in a Ruth Langsford TSV next Saturday – I’ll tell you more about that on next week’s blog. Our voucher offer will also be coming to a close next Sunday (check our website for full terms and conditions) so maybe a couple of last minute treats from Ruth and the Elemis TSV next Sunday will get you your desired voucher in return.
So, time for my look-back and this time it is 2014/15. You know the funny thing is, the closer I’ve come to present day the fewer photos and bits of memorabilia I seem to have but hopefully your memories will conjure up some pictures for you. In summer of 2014, Miceal and I were asked if we would like to host The Saturday Night Show. It wasn’t the first year it had been done, in fact it may have been the third or fourth, but it was a format that was quite relaxed and one that all the presenters enjoyed. We filmed a little advert for it at a house in north London which was quite amusing. Miceal was filmed getting ready for the big show and then calling at ‘my’ house to pick me up to go to the studios. When he arrived, I was in a slanket watching my team, Crystal Palace, playing football on TV! Underneath the slanket I had my glad rags on as I revealed with aplomb at the end! Sadly I don’t have any photos.
I did however find some funny photos of Miceal and myself along with Debs Flint from the Beauty Bash (I think it was the year before to be honest) – we were all having way too much fun posing in our ‘disguises’.
Here’s a funny aside, after we had been to UCLH on Monday we popped in to both Heal’s and Dwell on Tottenham Court Road, shopping for kitchen lights and bar stools. Bear in mind I had absolutely no make-up on so I was quite surprised when the assistant in Dwell said, ‘I think I know you.’ It turned out she had met me at a QVC Beauty Bash that she had attended with her mum who is an avid QVC fan – small world isn’t it!
Well, I need to get on with a few more nursemaid duties before heading in to work so I’ll stop there but not before I wish my sister, Lynda, and her husband, Geoff, a very happy Golden Wedding Anniversary this coming Tuesday. I know September 11th has a host of dreadful memories for us all but this year there is something really special for my family to celebrate particularly in light of the health issues Geoff has struggled with.
Have a great weekend – enjoy the late summer sunshine if the weather forecaster’s predictions come true.
