A trip to Santa Fir, the paperback of my new novel, and getting in the Christmassy mood

Curly hair BaBylissThis week –

– Choosing this year’s Xmas tree and a horse and carriage ride

– The paperback of Hawaiian Escape, my new novel – buy here!

– Finding fashion that flatters – and the X-Factor stylists who missed a trick!

– Fab freebie Christmassy eBook

– Tips for self-publishing your own novel – for beginners

– And 28 ‘wrong-number’ text replies – hilarious!

Air-Hair-Lair! Well, it’s certainly getting Christmassy now, that’s for sure! Can’t believe it’s already the end of the first week in December! It’ll be 25th before we know it.

So, here’s a selection of the festive things we’ve been doing/watching/having this week – along with finalising my paperback, so it’s available on Amazon this weekend – it’s been a fab week. It included being made all curly-wurly by the BaByliss team on Tuesday with the curl-secret for our midnight launch – it had sold out of almost half the stocks by the time the Morning Show began.

Well done if you got yours – but if you didn’t, and still want voluminous curls, watch Saturday Night Gifts at 8pm for Ego’s answer in a pod! (400146) – it’s what’s responsible for my recent on-air hair!

Watch this to find out more about what I did last Sunday morning…

ReindeerThe video says it all really! And then we actually did have a ride! Click here to see it! It’s a lovely little place just outside Godalming, is Santa Fir Farm – not massive, but some good quality trees there, and lots to buy in their Christmas Shoppes. And they even have reindeer!

The kids would love it, right? Well, if they’re still little, of course! And no, I’m not getting broody… for grandchildren! They can wait a few years, or I’ll be too devoted and never end up going anywhere all year!

And there’s so much more for me to do before my son and his now-wife bring about the next era in my life! Till then I’ll just take care of my four-footed babies (one of which had an emergency trip to the vets on Thursday night at midnight, cos she banged her eye and it swelled up! She’s ok now.)

Anyway, excitement apart, it’s time for some serious work! Now I just have to put all the decorations up! What time of month do you usually do yours? Any particularly innovative decorations to tell me about? Leave me a comment below!

Fashion fixFashion was at the for this Firsday – I mean Thursday – when I presented for the first time on ‘The Dressing Room’.

It’s an hour which introduces fairly new brands, which don’t always have their own full hours, and brings you styling tips with the lovely – and very knowledgeable – @AshlingMcCloy.

She’s a recognisable name from the magazines Heat and Red, amongst others, and brought her own brand of expertise to our show. She was wearing Ingenue.

Pictured also is Amanda from the new brand Damsel in a Dress – a more investment range of stunning dresses and gowns. Plus, more casual fayre with brand-new range, Bobi, a celeb fave from LA gathering a big following across the pond. These ladies know what they’re doing! However, it seems not everybody in TV does…

Now one of the bug bears I have to mention this week, since we’re talking about fashion tips, is how poor Sam Bailey was dressed on last Sunday’s results show on the X-Factor – a black top that ended at the widest point of her hips, and red trousers. If you saw the show, did you see what I meant?

Now I know, technically, ‘anyone can wear anything’, and they do. But considering what we know, girls, about fashion secrets after all these years listening to our own experts, what would we have done? Why didn’t her stylists think to give her a shark bite hanky hem, (dips down on each side at the hips) or maybe a flattering high-low dip back hem? In any case an empire line and a TUNIC length!

Now I think the girl’s done amazingly well in her weight loss and has an impossibly good voice (I think I’ll be voting for her to win – if I’m not on air!) but PLEASE if anyone knows the stylists, tell them to watch ‘The Dressing Room’ on QVC for some proper tips for curvy ladies! I have to say tho’, whatever she was wearing, her rendition of ‘I’ll be Your Clown’, which I watched on catch-up TV was amazing, I had to watch it several times. Go here to see it on ITV player, or search youtube.

Still to come… freebie Christmassy eBook… Blooper – Lee Hohbein is Santa?… And guess the celeb fitness DVD I’m launching New Year’s Eve!

First, the winner of the signed books comp last week is Karen. Congratulations – they will be with you before xmas! Another signed book comp below!

Paperback of Hawaiian Escape

Hawaiian Escape paperback coverFinally it’s out! It takes a lot of time to do the paperback version, I upload it all myself, you see. And I kept finding little typos! Therefore the current version of the eBook and the new paperback should be perfect!

And I’ll be one of the first to buy one from Amazon – ‘cos their print on demand service is how I get mine too – even as few as one copy at a time!

'Hawaiian Escape', is my new racy romance novel following the fortunes of Sadie (the heroine from 'Hawaiian Affair' which I released in the summer) and her even feistier, older sister Helen, and it takes place in the run up to Sadie’s first trip to Hawaii.

It all happens BEFORE 'Hawaiian Affair', so it’s good to read this one first!

Available on Amazon – click here to get your copy! – only RRP £7.99 and a great gift idea! When you’ve ordered it in the usual way from Amazon, it only takes a couple of days to arrive. That’s even though it’s Print on Demand.

Just search ‘Hawaiian Escape’ till the paperback appears – it’ll be separate from eBook at first, and then they link them and it’ll appear just under the title as a choice of either kindle ebook or paperback – (or follow the link I will put on here as soon as it’s available.)

Here’s another lovely review from Amazon for 'Hawaiian Escape' –
“A super book that makes you laugh and sigh! Characters you care about (sisters are so important!) and lots of giggles along the way. Also a great reminder to live your dreams! Thanks Debbie for a warm-hearted, pacy read. I know what book I'll be giving my girlfriends this Christmas.”
From Eliza022, Amazon

Remember it’s not scalding hot and steamy like 'Hawaiian Affair', but there’ll be a free download of the X-rated scene when I publish Hawaiian Extra (via a sign up for the newsletter on my website,) towards xmas. So – go here to buy Hawaiian Escape, online. OR COME BACK NEXT WEEK FOR EXCITING NEWS OF WHERE TO GO BUY A SIGNED COPY IN A SHOP IF YOU LIVE NEAR FETCHAM IN SURREY!

Lynda Renham’s Blog
Lynda Renham blogThanks to Lynda Renham for featuring me and my new book on her blog last weekend – it makes a change to be interviewed rather than to be interviewing!

Hope I didn’t give away too many steamy secrets! Lol.

Book of the Week –
Carole Singer's ChristmasAnd now for the first of several yuletide yomps in the run up to the big day.

Emily Harvale has done it again! I just love the cover for her new Christmassy full length novel – Carole Singer’s Christmas – and a super story it is too. Go here for her endearing video trailer to find out more about it, and then read it to bring you into the swing of xmas! Getting some great reviews on Amazon too –

“A wonderful book, full of Christmas spirit (without being soppy) and lots of humorous situations, made me smile in lots of places, a true feel good book before Christmas”
From LoveReading, Amazon

To win a signed copy of ‘Carole Singer’s Christmas’ from Emily, just leave a comment below saying you’d like to be entered.

Closes midday Thursday 12th and winner announced on next Friday’s blog. Full T&C’s here. Plus NEXT WEEK, on RiWiSi-Go-Large, AN UPDATE ON EMILY’S SELF-PUBLISHING SUCCESS STORY

Christmas WishesFreebie! And just to celebrate Christmas, she’s also written two lovely short stories, published together in an eBook called Christmas Wishes – FREE on amazon from Friday 6th – Tuesday 10th as a little xmas gift from Emily Harvale to her readers! This video clip will tell you more!

Don’t forget to download it! And go to last week’s blog to find out about how to read books on kindle if you don’t have a Kindle device. You can check out www.emilyharvale.com too for more info.

This week it’s a nice little outtake of Lee Hohbein appearing on Dale’s Saturday Night Gifts last weekend – as you’ve never seen him before! He’s nothing if not game, that guy! Anyone wondered who Santa really is?… Lol

Antthony nuttyAntthony Funny – my lovely pal had another fabulous weekend with us and well done if you got his items before they sold out!

He’s well known for his love of hats – thought I’d share this pic to make you smile – he posted it shortly after he left the UK to zip off to France – and he’s not back till Feb.

STOP PRESS – I may be going out there for our infamous ‘LA Road Trip’ end of Feb. Watch this space…

Vitamix challengeMy first Vitamix smoothie this week, using the fabulous TSV from last week, and it was soooo delicious! I don’t usually have dairy, so I used coconut milk with frozen blackberries from my autumn garden, and a banana and some ice. Cooorrrr!

Found out the ‘nana is better being slightly mushy, after I made the second one later in the week! Any nice recipes you’ve been trying?

Fairy photo Jane Dunkley’s granddaughter Fairy Madison gets a little snippet this week – following on from my picturing my beautiful nieces on here two weeks ago. If you have any little fabulous fairy relations you’d like me to feature, if I have space and time I will – email me at debbie@debbieflint.com!

Starcards 11th annual Christmas challengeA Reminder about GOSH fundraiser from Star Cards which ends on Sunday 8th I believe! Even if my framed pic (they did it beautifully, don’t you think?), only raises the minimum bid of £20, I’m so glad to have helped out for this worthy cause by taking part in their annual eBay auction – alongside Jessie J and Ant n Dec and Brian May, eh? Wow!

Funny textA FACEBOOK FUNNY to end the snippets with this week – and another one that made me LOL – literally! Go here to read 28 responses to wrong-number-texts – sooo funny! And be warned, a couple are a bit saucy! Naked man’s chest alert! : – )

It’s another Christmassy one this week: 'The Man in the Santa Claus Suit'! Watch it with me – I’m going to have this on, on Sunday night whilst I put up all my decs and start the Xmas cards and wrap some pressies (won’t take long this year because of the gift bags and gift wrap sets I bought from Gill Gauntlett! Lol).

Not seen it before but if it features Fred Astaire, albeit in his twilight years phase (inc Towering Inferno, mid – late 70s!) it deserves a go, I say!

Just search it on YouTube to find the whole film. It’s rubbish quality but it’s old-school kitsch and Fred plays seven different roles! Basically, it’s the story of the Man in the Santa Claus Suit (1979) – the mysterious owner of a costume shop rents a Santa Claus suit to three very different men whose lives are “inexorably changed by their experience of playing Santa Claus.”

Laura GellerFor those who adore Laura Geller – don’t miss her shows throughout Sunday 15th – with another fab six-piece baked collection!

I’ll be off that day entertaining 30 family, so I’ll miss her, but I know it’ll be one of the best value TSVs of the cosmetics year on QVC!

Part of fitness DVDIf you’re in need of a little exercise regime, and by 31st December you’ve had more than enough of all the over-celebrating(!) then join me midnight on New Year’s Eve to ring in 2014 when I bring you a certain Celeb’s new fitness DVD!

Can you guess who it is? …

– A truly fabulous L’Occitane TSV bargain on my final solo Saturday Night Gifts show on 7th at 8-10pm, also featuring the return of both John Barrowman and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen plus music from none other than Boyzone! who were interviewed by Chloe last week.

L'Occitane TSV - 203173

HIM set - 202384

– Dale and Charlie do Diamonds, all on 3EZ Pay, Monday 4pm – always fab fun!

Slendertone TSV - 400555– Then a new Slendertone TSV bargain throughout Tuesday – incl with me 10pm, to tone and lift your face

– Also next week, Lulu Guinness and Price’s Candles TSV’s towards end of week!

NEXT WEEK – annual Xmas shopping day with my sis, mum and ex-sis-in-law Nicky – Westfield awaits! Plus – your chance to order a signed copy of Hawaiian Escape over the phone from a lovely shop in Surrey, and they’ll dispatch it to you in time for xmas! PLUS – the tree will be up – will yours?

Best wishes

please can you speak to fashion jewellery buyers. I need a size S in rings and usually the sizing is very limited to 3/4 sizes. I especially like Buckley and Aurora, but this applies to all fashion jewellery. Thanks in advance Debs x

    Hi Debbie,
I was watching the beauty channel and you are still showing Philosophy supernatural Canvas. I have searched everywhere for this in Beige and I think this has now been discontinued by the manufacturer. I know you liked this too. I loved it and I am now nearly out of it – eek !!! Any suggestions Debbie? Hope you and all your furry ones are well.
Always enjoy you shows and your blogs.

    Hi Debbie
I would echo Niki’s note about the ring sizes. I also need a size s and with many of the jewellery brands they do not cater for us. I would also say many of the newer fashion brands only go up to xl which means us 2xl/3xl girls are left out. Great blog as always. Thanks Ann

I always have outside lights too…always white and blue lights in my bush and this year have icicles round my canopy..definitely has the neighbours talking! I also have the beautiful tall blossom tree in blue that I bought from QVC this year..truly stunning and the blue lights glow so brilliantly. My sister and I have an annual Xmas shop too. For 12 Years we go away to Milton Keynes for three days of shop til you drop around November payday..an amazing shopping centre and lots of retail outlets..beats Westgate on sea ..near Margate in Kent.. where I live and I also get well earned me time! Happy Xmas. Mary

    Hi Debs
I always read your blog, but haven’t posted in a while. Like yourself, I’ve been visiting my vet quite a bit with my two; it’s either a feast or a famine! Cas is in the hospital atm, with an ulcer on his eye, and Oscar has had the same thing twice. Boxers are quite prone to several complaints, unlike mongrels who are such hardy souls. Their pressies are the only ones I’ve got, and I’ll probably get them something else. How are your brood? Spoiling them rotten at xmas? It’s been a productive year for you, with your book; you must be so proud, what an achievement. You’re a mum in law, it’ll be grandma Debbie, before long!
Well, have a peaceful and enjoyable holiday period, Debs, and all the best for 2014. Take care.

yes I’ve just been told about this too! Tragedy! i loved it too. Am told there’s another one coming but in the meantime I’m going to experiment with a cream foundation or primer (like judith williams’ magic makeup)with a mineral makeup on top – like maybe laura geller or bare minerals ready range. Bella pierre was a good one too. Will experiment!
