Dear readers of BOTF – thanks as always for your comments, just a quickie today (Thursday) as it's my wife's birthday and I've taken a couple of day's leave from The Q.
I was trying to think of something different for Tracey this year and I had a brilliant idea! A cake! Not that original granted… but this one was going to be different … a triumph!!
The scene was set dear reader – secret negotiations took place between Agent Fox and his secret accomplice. Yes an accomplice, was indeed necessary to undertake such a cake – this was not a job for Agent Fox no matter how game our hero was in the kitchen! (Marian!!). Despite his daughter's growing bakery prowess – this was a job for a pro!
So Agent Jo, the Queen of the Q Prep Kitchen was commissioned to create a masterpiece – a Toby cake!
To the untrained eye she didn't flinch – "A dog cake? No problem!" But to our hero, trained in reading the language of the body, he noticed a micro gesture – there was the slightest tightening of the jaw, a minute look of panic across her brow – the Fox knew he had to push this one and he played her like a violin, "are you sure you can do it?" – that was all she needed, the gauntlet was thrown down and she picked it up with an ever growing confidence – "Sure! What kind of dog?" she enquired.
"A bearded collie – a real shaggy dog", the Fox replied. Despite never having made a dog cake before – how could she turn this down? Her initial fears were realised when the Fox emailed photos of Toby, the long hair, the quizzical look, the black and white icing – could she do this? Could she rise to the canine challenge laid down by the Fox?
Of course she could, what was she ever worried about? Her skills were indeed tested but she emerged victorious, as the Fox popped in to inspect her artistry, her fingers numb from forcing so much icing through a colander, in order to create the shaggy coat – she already knew the answer but still the question passed over her lips; "Is it OK?"
"OK?", the Fox shouted, "OK? It's blooming fantastic – Mrs F will be moved to tears!"
But it was not Mrs F but Agent Fox who would be moved to tears. The Toby cake was carefully packaged and carefully placed in the agent's car for transportation back to the Fox's den.
He had just got home after the launch of the Xbox 360 Kinect TSV – the clock ticked 300 hours. He could hide the cake under the cover of darkness for presentation on her happy day.
Better just check the merchandise he mused – Arrrgggh! As he lifted off the lid from the box he staggered back – Toby's head had fallen off! His right ear was missing and most of his beard was in the bottom of the container. "Mon chien bleu", he swore – at that moment he realised that the game was indeed up – he would have to come clean! No dramatic birthday unveiling - as the cake would now surely dry out, now that it's sugary carapace had been broken open. "C'est la vie, ma petit pois", he growled, not realising pois was a pea not a puppy! But at that moment he didn't care…
Sorry I said it was a quickie – better go Tracey's cutting the cake!!
Author's note: the above account has been altered for dramatic effect but is essentially true. And after resting his head on a cup, the Toby cake looked almost as good as new!
I'm back in Friday then Saturday night I'm launching a brilliant Fuji x30 super zoom digital camera with Mat Trim – join us!
Till next time,
