Avelengo in the Dolomites

A snowy getaway

Hi all,

How is January treating you? Last week hubby and I did something we have never done before – a mini-break in the snow! We flew to Verona in Italy, hired a car and drove a couple of hours north to the mountain village of Avelengo in the Dolomites. It was one of the most beautiful, peaceful places I have ever been –  we were over 1300m high and the scenery was just breathtaking.

We went walking in the snow, read our books in the sunshine next to a frozen lake, and wandered around the lovely spa town of Merano about twenty minutes drive away. It was just a three-day break but so rejuvenating – that mountain air was wonderful! I think the photos say it all so here’s a selection for you. My Centigrade coat from a couple of years ago is still going strong and kept me cosy in the sub-zero temperatures, and that’s my new Vince Camuto hat which was super-warm too. Now I’m back, and ready for whatever 2018 will bring!

A new year always brings new brands to QVC and I’m particularly excited about two new cosmetics ranges, Julep (on-air on Saturday 20th) and Westmore Beauty (first full hour on the 28th). Julep is a Korean-inspired range – its slogan is “Brave Pretty” and I love this quote from its brochure: “Pretty follows the rules. Never speaks out of turn. And always asks for permission first. Let’s stop it with the pretty, please. It’s time we take that box of crayons we call makeup. And draw outside the lines.”

Julep Beauty

They really do “draw outside the lines” in terms of innovation – I’ve been trying the range and their matte lip mousse and gel eyeliners are particularly impressive – astounding staying power!

Westmore Beauty

In contrast, Westmore Beauty is all about old Hollywood glamour – the company has worked in film and television make-up for over a hundred years! Its experts combine all the tricks they’ve learned in that time with the latest technology to bring us an amazing collection. The packaging is absolutely gorgeous and I really love this eyeshadow palette. Such lovely colours! Do tune in and watch the shows from both of these new brands as the guests will be giving great demonstrations of how to use the products.

That’s it for now, stay warm!

Love Jackie x

Oh New York, Alison! My favourite city in the world. The last time I went I ate in a pub called The Dead Rabbit, because one of the newspapers listed it in the top ten pubs to visit before you die! The food was fantastic – I recommended it to Julia Roberts and she went too and really enjoyed it. Have a wonderful time!

Haha, you know me Susan…I live to travel! The boots are actually really old snow boots I picked up somewhere years ago. Still going strong though. Happy New Year to you too!

I remember when I went to the Dolomites thinking that I’d better take an Italian phrase book with me. They speak ” German “. Silly me. Beautiful scenery .

      Hi Susan,
I think we get fairly standard number of days holiday (I have friends in other jobs who get similar or more!) but I suppose we all blog about our trips so yes, it must seem as though we all get a lot of time off and are always gallivanting! I do like to make the most of my annual leave and explore our beautiful planet as much as I can, it’s my favourite thing to do. I have another little adventure coming up in February so stand by…!
      Love Jackie x
