A ripe old age

Although I haven't been on air much so far this week, I have been very busy at home. It was my Mum's 86th birthday on Monday so we invited her down for a visit. She's been having a few problems getting up and down stairs so we moved a bed downstairs into the garden room and put the sofa, which is normally in there, outside in the garden. Sophie had checked the weather forecast, and as a result we covered it in plastic – just as well really as we have had yet more rain this week!

Chris went up Nottingham to fetch Mum on Sunday while I did a manic clean up, picked some flowers from the garden and baked a birthday cake and some chocolate chunk cookies. It was lovely to have her here for her birthday and I think she enjoyed herself.

We took her to Richmond Park as I has told her about the deer running free. I sometimes drive through the park on my way home from work and there are usually forty or fifty deer right by the roadside… not when we drove through with Mum! We caught a fleeting glimpse of three or four in the distance – I'm not even sure if she saw them! We also watched 'The Marigold Hotel' film one evening, as she had been bought it for a birthday present. I loved the film particularly as it was set in India where my late Dad spent his childhood.

Mum has gone home this morning and I have been moving furniture, cleaning and baking again as Chris is picking his mum up from Lincolnshire on his way back from Nottingham… it's like Piccadilly Circus here at the moment!

I need to leave for work in approximately ten minutes so I had better run. Today I am missing Simon Wilson but I was with him last night and I hope you enjoyed the show. We are back together on Sunday at 8pm to celebrate the 12th Anniversary of Butler & Wilson World as part of our Fashion Day. If you love Ronni Nicole, you might want to stay up late on Saturday night particularly if you like dresses with sleeves.

A busy weekend ahead on QVC and the start of the new 'footie' season, let's hope it's a good one on both counts!!

Much love, Julia xx

Hi from Hot spain, i expect you have seen the tempurtures on the news, in the 40’s,in fact it read 46 dgs on my patio today, thank goodness for the beach so close by, the pool, and the air con in our home. We are both enjoying a long break before the wedding in just over 5 weeks time. Can’t believe how quickly it’s gone by but really looking forward to it now that most of the important things have been sorted. So we can relax and enjoy the holiday. Didn’t watch much of the olympic’s, the tv was playing up so went out for walks to the beach and had a few drinks in the local bars, in the evenings. A bit cooler too.
Glad mum had a nice birthday, and have an enjoyable visit from Chris’s mum too. Time to go for another evening stroll for a glass or two.
    Take Care.

Hi Julia long time no speak. That was me that left you a tweet on twitter too!!
Your Mother sounds like a wonderful woman. Her daughter must have taken some tips from her.
Have Palace not lost a lot of their better players in the pre season. I noticed Clyne playing for Southampton and also Scannell was at Leicester was it?
As I said in my tweet(I’m a newbie in the world of twitter so not sure what I’m doing) we won 5-1. Our new adventure in the 3rd division has started slowly but was great to be back at Ibrox yesterday after everything we have been through. There were days I didnt think we would be back. 50,000 at Ibrox yesterday whcih I think says a hell of a lot about the loyalty of the fans don’t you think?
Enjoy your show with Simon and get replying to my tweet lol!! Only kidding but now you know who it is!!
    Take care

    Hi Julia
Belated ‘Birthday Wishes’ to your lovely Mum…what a shame she wasn’t with you long enough to model again for your show with Simon in the new QVC towers! Loved your comment to Simon about having a little snooze…know what you mean though lol!
I can imagine how busy you’ve been, with having both Mums to stay with you, at least Chris did the running around and you could get on with things.
Sad to see the Olympics end, but the ending…not quite sure about, a little mish, mashy to me, although I did like the John Lennon part in it.
Anyway, we are currently watching the Spanish Vuelta cycling at the moment on ITV4, highlights at 7.00pm. This time cheering on Chris Froome, although it is early days yet with 3 weeks of cycling and far more mountain climbs than the Tour de France. It does seem very strange not having Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish there. Just thought, what if they were cycling near your villa, now that would be something!

Saw you for the first time in a couple of years at the weekend. You look really well and seem to have lost a lot of weight!! Well done! You do look like you lost a lot of weight from your chest and stomach. Must be odd shopping getting the small bras and dresses now. Still a fantastic achievement in losing weight, as this is something that gets harder as we get older. You do also have great arms.
I’m using the Pilates machine and can see some great results. Not such weight loss but feel fitter and much more toned.
    Keep up the great work.

It is a strange thing I think to watch your mum getting older and that they need you more than other way around.latest purchase for me was the lulu guiness red pillow box phone cover still waiting for it to come can’t wait. I watched you and Simon again wouldent miss that for the world you are great together. Take care Carole Wigan x

    Hi Kathy
Phew ….. 46 degrees! Way too hot for me! It’s been in the low 30’s here and that is very warm to cope with, mind you no pool, beach or air con which makes a huge difference!
The time has gone so quickly in the run up to your wedding – I hope you have the perfect day

    Hi Steven
Not ignoring you on twitter I genuinely didn’t see your tweet? what is your twittername?
You guys must be very proud of your team. What a blow to have to start from the bottom again but the consecutive promotions won’t take long and you will end up stronger on and off the pitch I’m sure.
Yes we have lost Clyne and Scannell but we have kept hold of Wilfred Zaha and keep an eye out for Johnnie Williams when he is back in the team.
Good to hear from you again

    Hi Annette,
I know what you mean about the closing ceremony ….. the bit with John Lennon was brilliant but I don’t think the director got or held the shot of the finished ‘model’ for long enough! Also loved the crowd interacting with Freddie Mercury!
Mum was down for the Thursday night show I did with Simon but she is not really well enough for any TV appearances at the moment. Chris has taken his Mum back to Spalding today, and Daniel is away in Bruges so I have the house to myself ….. bliss!
I don’t really watch the cycling ( Daniel is a big fan ) but I have seen them practising near Calpe which is about 25 minutes from where my house was. I say ‘was’ not because it is no longer there, but because I sold it last month. Bit of a relief if I’m honest with the Euro crisis deepening. It will also mean I can go and visit other destinations for holidays rather than feeling I have to go to Spain.
It really is a year of change for me in every aspect of my life

    Hi Eleanor
Glad to hear you are a Pilates fan too!
I lost a couple of stone two years ago but some people commented that I looked a bit scrawny so I am trying to find the ‘perfect’ weight for me. I feel a bit heavy at the moment but maybe only by a few pounds. Thanks for the compliment about my arms …. Pilates and swimming, a great combination!

    Hi Carole
So pleased you enjoyed my shows with Simon, I was just sad that I only did two of his Anniversary shows, but maybe I will see more of him on his next visit at the end of September.
I didn’t see any of the Lulu Guiness shows as I had visitors but she does do some really quirky stuff – she is a hoot to work with too!
I hope your Mum will have a lovely eightieth birthday in January surrounded by her family.

Hi Julia. My name is Whosthedado Steven Smith on twitter. You can follow me if you like. Im not too sure what im doing yet though! I feel like a kid starting school again 😀 Yeah its just great to get back to playing football again. Brilliant to see some of the kids starting to come through. Its a real chance for them to make a name for themselves in the lower leagues. The new owner has really started to make a mark and is fighting our corner whcih makes a change from the dignified silence from previous regimes. Its good for the ‘smaller clubs’ too becuse they get a chance to make some money. Everyone is praying to get us in the cups now though because of our large traveeling support.
Fingers crossed Palace get through the rest of the window with the squad in tact and can have a succesful yesr. You’ll need to keep me up to date on guys like Johnnie Williams. There are a few Palace games on Sky I think so I’ll be cheering you guys on. Rangers games even in the 3rd division are on sky so you can cheer us on too 🙂
Is there more pilates coming soon on QVC. I’ve seen a few ladies saying they have had reall success with it. Certainly hasn’t done you any harm. You look fab.
    Take care

    Hi Julia
Belated birthday wishes to your mum, sounds like you put on a good birthday bash for her. Deer me though (lol!) fancy them not being around for her special day.
You’re missing a trick you know not trying the new Elemis Pro Intense Lift, it’s fab. I don’t really have much facial slackening but I love the super smooth look it gives to my skin. Give it a try. Re the Percy and Reed products, well, I’m still not too sure about the shampoo as it doesn’t lather very well although I have a lot of hair so it may be that it’s the wrong one for me (volumising). But I LOVE the No Oil Oil and the mousse so will definitely be trying more from the range.
I also enjoyed your shows with Simon especially when he mentioned about those people standing outside his shop and saying “who wears that”! How fab that he can laugh at himself like that. What a geezer!!
I also saw the Ronni Nicole shows but I have to say I’m loving the new James Lakeland collection. Boy did I have to sit on my hands!! (We’ve had quite a bit of work done outside the house, boring stuff like new guttering, etc.) I’ll definitely be buying from that range in the not too distant future though.
    Bye for now

    Hi Julia
Glad to hear that your Mum was with you for the Thursday night show…did she like the new building? Hope shes feeling better soon.
I agree about the John Lennon sculpture not having a long enough spot on TV and also the Freddie Mercury section was very good too!
What a shock to hear you’ve sold your spanish house, the views you’ve posted on here were spectacular…must have been quite a wrench for you to do so, but as you have said it will open up new horizons for you and you’re not tied down to one particular place, so good for you!
I’ve had my third physio on Tuesday and remembered to take the back magic leaflet with me and she was very impressed and told me to try the level 2, which I’ve tried this morning…OMG, think I’ll stick to level 1 lol!! Laughing aside, the physio on my neck that she has done is brilliant! I’ve always used my mirrors to reverse the car, because I’ve never been able to turn and look through the back window for years…I did it for the first time on Tuesday, really chuffed. As they say ‘little things….’!
Revitalash – it has thickened out my lashes and whilst they don’t look any longer without mascara, they do with, so it must be doing something!

I’ll look out for your tweets but I am trying to keep following people to a minimum otherwise I’ll never get a chance to read all the tweets!
I’m hoping we can hold on to our players too – did you hear Chelsea have just signed our former youngster Victor Moses and there was a sell on clause in his contract so we will get some dosh!!! We have just signed four new players – probs as a result of the Moses deal!
Wishing Rangers a lot of luck – I think the fans have conducted themselves with dignity

    Hi Marion
It’s so funny hearing you recommending things for me to try …. who works at QVC?? I promise I will give the Elemis Pro Intense Lift a go as, unlike you, I do have slackening skin on my jaw line!!! I could use it at night under my Oxygenating Night Cream! I also missed the James Lakeland collection so will have to have a look online.
Hope all the repairs to your house are finished now? – It’s a nuisance when everyday life gets in the way of shopping LOL!!!

    Hi Annette
Mum didn’t come into QVC with me, she watched from home with Daniel although apparently she only watched a little bit and then said ” OK you can turn it off now!!!!!” She is so funny sometimes.
Did you hear me mention you during the Relax Your Back show last night? We had the latest version of the Back Magic as a TSV and I might have to get one as I haven’t had the one with the nodules and anyway Sophie has taken mine to her flat! I found it really comfortable on the second level but it was also better for me with the narrow end at the base of my spine. Have you tried the ‘Neck Ease’? I hadn’t seen it before – it was really good.
Mixed feelings about selling Spain – a lot has been going on in my life lately ( as you will read about in the book hopefully ) so I think it was the right decision.
Hope the massages continue to help your neck

    Hi Laurie
My black wedges are really comfy which is why I continue to wear them even though they are really old. They were from Aldo but I think it was at least three summers ago so I’m pretty sure they won’t have them now. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful

    Hello Vi
I have just had a thankyou card from Mum this morning – she really enjoyed her stay and having the family around her. I wish she lived nearer as I would like to see her more often, but she does have a really good network of neighbours who look out for her, and my brother who still lives in the Nottingham area.
I’ll say hi to Debs for you …… we knew each other before QVC so I think we must go back over 20 years!

    Hi Julia
Mum’s are so funny, aren’t they…I can remember Mum staying with me and hurting her shoulder when reaching for something. I said I would take her to my Dr, but she dug her heels in and said no, then when it was time for her to go home again, she said that I should have taken her!!
Sorry, I missed the Relax Your Back last night (footie on ITV4!) and only caught the very end of you, when having a little flick of the channels when the adverts were on…it’s funny though, I think you mentioned earlier in a blog that you weren’t on with the back magic this time, so because I’d seen the TSV earlier I wasn’t too bothered, but when I saw you at the end of the show I had a very funny feeling that you may have mentioned me, typical! The new back magic does look very good especially with the foam on the plain side, it is also a slightly different shape and looks easier to manipulate…I have a real fight with mine, trying to flip it over! Yes, I have seen the Neck Ease, but a bit sceptical because I do have a very short neck, so not sure if it would work for me.
What’s this, I will read about in your book hopefully…I definitely will and a signed copy too, hopefully! lol!

    Hi Julia
Yes I saw Moses was away – it’s not too bad if you can spend the money though. The Brazilian Palace have singed was on trial with Rangers a few days ago. Be interesting to see how he does. Who do Palace play at the weekend.
I’ll maybe send you a tweet later on! As I say Im really not sure what Im doing yet!
Thnaks for your good wishes toore my team – I apprecaite that. Makes a nice change from people laughing at our current predicament. We play Berwick Rangers on Sunday. Some of our games are still going to be on Sky this season so you’ ll maybe see us
Onwards and upwards for both our teams hopefully
    Take care xxx
