A question answered – lines around the nose and mouth

I recently had a question from a loyal viewer who loves her beauty regime and uses very advanced products but she wanted to have an even greater result on the fine lines around her mouth and nose. This is a common problem and although we are meant to have lines in this area through the ageing process, when we are constantly bombarded with media images that are Photoshopped or celebrities and even nowadays many members of the public are using fillers and botox, it can sometimes make those of us that don’t do invasive treatment feel insecure about this area.

You can attack this area of skin ageing in several different ways depending upon what result you require and how big an investment in time and money you are prepared to make.

Level 1
With your existing regime, increase the exfoliation to these key areas to every other day to help thin the line and wrinkle from the outside, followed by layering your normal facial routine i.e. face serums and moisturisers, but actually also putting your eye cream onto those areas as this normally has a more concentrated anti-wrinkle effect and can be especially effective on the upper lip lines because the underlying structure is a circular muscle in a similar shape to around the eyes.  Also, try and do this moisturising routine more than twice i.e. not just am and pm but also apply at 7pm. For some people, this will bring the area of increased ageing back on track.

5Level 2
If you are already using an excellent routine and you need a stronger product then we could increase exfoliation in those areas by adding either peeling pads or a dermabrasion machine (watch out for many of these new products coming to QVC UK at the beginning of this year), and then apply specific wrinkle complexes such as Pure Prai Wrinkle Concentrate which uses dermaxyl, or if you’ve used this type of ingredient before (as it is available in many brands) the ultimate would be the patented, exclusive complexes of Perricone Signature Reserve – we have a special offer on two serums. For immediate cosmetic improvement, you can fill in with Prai Ageless Lip Line Filler or if you need to smooth over the look of lines in a larger area, not just the upper lip, then use Flora Mare 4ever Young Wrinkle Filler.

Level 3
To have a deeper effect on not just the look of the line but the regenerative cells that are causing the breakdown of both the epidermis and dermis, then you can have a deeper effect only if you go to modern day electrical beauty machines. In recent years we have been proud to be able to offer some of the most cutting edge homecare machines that are FDA-approved, clinically-tested and based on the proven sciences of the original dermatologists machines previously only available through private appointments. All the machines work, however they all have varying degrees of effectiveness based often on the discomfort level that you can tolerate. For example, the easiest machine that has no sensation, apart from a warmth on the skin, is the LightStim, however this must be used every day and would take about 15 minutes to do just the lip area and central wrinkles for at least 8 weeks to get the results.

As always, you should be in control of your own regime and it’s up to you what choices you want to make, how much time and money you wish to spend and how concerned you are about a particular area.

Always remember that in an instance like this, where you are worried about a certain area, other people will not notice it as much as you do and to give yourself some confidence, try emphasising perhaps the upper part of your face more with great brow work and eyeshadow, keeping your accent colours in the upper part of your face rather than strong coloured lipsticks.

Please could you give me some advice about thinning body skin. I am 65 & have been on steroids for 35 years due to rheumatoid arthritis. I have had lots of successful operations but am due for another one on my toes & foot & although I do moisturize daily with Elemis on my body & use wonderful Margaret Dabb on my feet, I wondered if you could suggest anything else to improve the condition of my foot skin. Thank you in advance!!

I have been looking for a new moisturiser for my face, as well as an eye cream. I am currently using Niva soft which is no longer suitable…. I have recently been introduced to Judith Williams products by my aunty which I really liked. I was hoping someone would be able to recommend the most suitable for me; I am 34, i’d describe my skin as being in good condition, however, have started to notice lines just under my eyes! Sock horror!!

    Looking forward to hearing back.

Hi Alison, can you recommend a neck cream (or anything !) that will help with Vertical lines, I often see comments around other lines on the neck , but I don’t really have too many of them.

Hello Alison. Please could you tell me if it safe to use SBC Propolis Gel and Shower & Bath Creme on my two and a half year old grandson.

He has very dry, flaky skin on his legs and arms.

    Thank you very much.

Hi Alison, I had noticed a couple of brown patches starting on my face so I used Ultrasun for face and a lower factor on my body for my holiday last year. All worked perfectly but by week 2 I had a white face against a sensibly tanned body. Using foundation and bronzing powder was fine for evenings but no good round the pool. Can you suggest anything from the QVC ranges to gently self tan the face please?
