Well spring has, it seems, finally sprung! I’ve taken a week off work after a hectic few months, and have just returned from a gorgeous four days in Devon with my mum and sister. We had three full days without rain and one day of glorious sunshine – amazing!
I told you in a previous blog that I am the oldest of five sisters – this time I went away with my mum and Loraine, the sister closest in age to me. She is a social worker in Dublin so we lead very different lives but we have SUCH a laugh when we are together.
We always share a hotel room when we go away – it reminds us of our youth, as we always shared a bedroom right up until I left home to go to university. With eight people in a four-bedroom house, having your own room was not an option when I was a child!
We crammed an enormous amount into our four-day trip – walked the seafront at Sidmouth (pictured top left), drove across Dartmoor, had afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel in Torquay and felt like giants at the fantastic Babbacombe Model Village.
All in all a lovely little break, and it was quite sad dropping the two of them off at Exeter airport for their flight back to Ireland. The next time I’ll see them will probably be at my youngest sister Sarah’s wedding in August – that will be quite a weekend, I’m looking forward to it already!
I still have a few days of my week’s holiday left though – my lovely friend Sophie is getting married so we have a three-day extravaganza, starting with a lovely girlie spa day on the day before the wedding. Time will tell whether this will be a good idea or not…we will have to be slightly more restrained than usual with the champagne, or we may regret it!
So I’m off work, but does that mean I’ve forgotten about QVC, and about shopping? Er – no! My poor overworked postman just delivered my latest purchase – some Elemis tan accelerator (pictured above). I’m not really one for excess tanning as I’m pretty paranoid about wrinkles and skin cancer – my husband and I lost a very close friend to skin cancer a few years ago.
But the lovely Keeley from Elemis told me that if you use this product instead of your usual body lotion through the summer months, it helps boost melanin production in your skin and protects it, so it’s easier to get a light tan. That’s if the sun continues to shine of course…!
And finally – this is the scene in my bathroom right now as our charming plumber Chris fits a new washbasin with a big cupboard underneath. Why? Because I’ve acquired so many fabulous new beauty products recently, I no longer have room for them in my bathroom… oh dear!
I’m back at QVC next week – see you then!
Love Jackie
