A Little brother for Sam

Just after I had submitted my blog last Friday, I had a text from my sister, Lynda to say that my niece, Rachel, had given birth to her second baby. It’s a boy, Finlay, and he weighed in at 7lbs 9oz. His big brother Sam, who will be three in January, looks pretty pleased with the new arrival. Congratulations to Rob and Rachel – can’t wait to have a cuddle… with Finlay that is!’

Baby 1

After texting my sister, I sat down to start work on book three of the ‘Liberty Sands’ trilogy – no real rush, but I would like to put a teaser in the back of ‘If He Really Loved Me’… if possible. My creative juices were firing on all cylinders however the small matter of the ‘E’ key on my computer refusing to work thwarted my attempt to write. I vacuumed the keypad in case a crumb had dropped down between the letters and turned it on and off a few times all to no avail. I know the letter ‘E’ is most commonly used but you’d think the computer would have lasted more than ten months! It has been returned as still under warranty and at least I have my trusty old Dell to tide me over until I decide on a replacement – I was wondering about a Mac book Air – any thoughts?

When I arrived at Daniel’s on Thursday he had been grocery shopping and announced that he’d bought some leeks for me to make potato and leek soup. I didn’t tell him that I had made some for his dad and I the previous day, but managed to delay making it until Saturday lunch. I left him the recipe so hopefully he will make more use of the blender I bought him last time I was down. I’ve also just bought him a Cook’s Essentials egg poacher, 803765. The one he had was useless – it boiled dry before cooking the eggs and they were in for seven minutes. We have the Cooks Essentials one and it is brilliant – perfect eggs every time!

I drove back to London on Sunday night and then spent all day Monday editing before going in to work at QVC on Tuesday. I don’t normally work Tuesdays so I spent the whole day feeling like it was Thursday – weird. I had a Christmas Festive lighting show and this is how well the floor staff know me – they had taken two of the letters from the illuminated PEACE sign we were selling and created CP for my team, Crystal Palace. Actually, I don’t want to talk about the 5 – 1 defeat to Man City in the League Cup on Wednesday night so I think I’ll change the subject!

Pretty lights
I also had a Lalique fragrance gifts show on Tuesday and they very kindly gave me a couple of perfumes to try. I particularly liked the Living Lalique but someone else was more interested in the bag! I think my daughter Sophie’s cat, Milo, was a bit jealous of his brother getting all the attention on National Black Cat Day.

It was lovely to see Simon Wilson yesterday for the ‘Butler and Wilson World  of…’show – he has a ‘Couture Jewellery show’ on Tuesday at 9pm so do check the designs on our website in advance.

Butler and Wilson

Today I’m on air at 3pm, Vercella Vita and ‘Fashion on Friday’ at 5pm is Ronnie Nicole. Unfortunately Ouida Oliver hasn’t been able to travel from America this time but I’m looking forward to working with Imogen Connelly. I have a slightly earlier than normal start on Sunday which is Beauty Day. 11am is Beauty Gifts, featuring the Instyler Tulip Today’s Special Value offer, which my daughter loves, and then I have OPI Christmas Gifts at noon – hooray! I haven’t done a show with them for ages. On Monday we have the premiere of a new fashion range called Nick Verreos. Mine is the second show of the day at 5pm so I hope there will be some stock left.

Talking of premieres, has anyone seen Spectre yet? I love James Bond so that is definitely something to look forward to in the near future.

I’m not planning anything for Halloween tomorrow but if you are I hope it goes well
Much love
Julia x

PS – Apologies to those of you who have been waiting for your Advanced Order of ‘Life’s a Beach and Then… 705211‘. It has only just been drawn to my attention that there has been a minor delay in getting the orders out but they should be heading your way next week along with all the waitlist orders. There are only single figures remaining and QVC will not be ordering anymore although it’s still available, unsigned, elsewhere – check my Julia Roberts TV Facebook page for more details

Julia. I have had a Mac Air for just over a year now and it is a fab little computer. Really fast and sturdy. Just the thing for busy ladies like us. Buy one, I promise you will not regret it.

      Hi Sue
I couldn’t possible comment about the football particularly as we could only manage a draw on Saturday against an under par Man Utd. – we have had a few injuries so hopefully we will soon be back to full strength.
The egg poacher from Cooks Essentials is really really good. I missed my cooked breakfast on Sunday because I was on air early so I had it yesterday instead – perfect 5 minute eggs as always!
Hope you found a Ronni Nicole dress or maybe have a look online at Tiana B?

      Hi Sue
Thanks for your really kind words. I’m not sure if I can wait until Christmas as I’m supposed to be underway with book three already for release May next year – also it’s tad expensive for my kids at the moment.
Can you imagine my face when the E key wouldn’t work? Not a pretty sight! Thank goodness for my trusty old Dell to tide me over temporarily

    hi there julia
i just thought i would mention last week you were doing a clothes show with a woman called jennie, she keep saying she wasnt allowed to use the word fabrication as it means its a lie [made up] ,the lady went on to say that she had checked the word out and it does mean this !
i am pretty sure this is incorrect
fabrication means a made product as such so as the fabric is a material she can use this word,i was wondering maybe the woman who made the comment meant fabricate as this means fabricate the truth …ie a lie.
sorry to sound like a nerd but it was driving me mad, could you pass this on to the lovely jennie…
    mind you perhaps im wrong..!

    • Julia Roberts November 4, 2015 at 6:19 pm -  Reply

      Hi Sarah
Obviously I didn’t want to argue with my guest on air but I believe fabrication has a couple of different meanings.
Originally it was used to talk about manufacturing or construction (the art of making something) but it’s more common use now is fabricating a story.
I think it is alright to use fabrication with regard to the making of the clothes but not when talking about the fabric – that is a bit of a pedants point of view though.
Thanks for troubling to message me on here and I will certainly feed back to Jenny when I next see her

    Hi Julia,
Well this is my 3rd attempt of posting a comment! I don’t know if the fault is at this end but I have been having problems with my laptop for some time now. Anyway, 3rd time lucky.
Congratulations on the latest arrival to your family. Hope they are all well, they certainly look it.
I love the photo of Milo. I had a cat called Mitzi when I was small and she used to love diving into paper bags if you left them on the floor. I remember when she had kittens in the bottom of our airing cupboard!
Everything seems a bit flat now that the rugby has finished. I saw one of the New Zealand players on the news this evening giving his world cup medal to a young lad. He had rushed onto the pitch after the game and was tackled to the ground by a security guard. When Sonny Bill saw this he went over to the lad and took him back to his mother. He then gave him his medal. The lad was over the moon to say the very least. They gave the player another medal after his very generous act to this young lad. I think this lad will be the most popular boy in his school when he goes in tomorrow!!
The 22nd November should be ok for me by the way for Morgans Hotel. I don’t usually go out on a Sunday but it will be ok if that’s the day that suits you. Will wait to hear from you about it.
I hope this comment is posted anyway. I apologise if the other comment also appears because of some delay and you are reading everything twice. Speak soon-
    Take care, Tina x

      Hi Tina
I saw the footage of the All Blacks player giving his medal to the young lad – definitely something to treasure. I think he got another medal presented to him the following day if I remember the news story correctly.
Both Milo and Wilfie love bags and boxes – it is very funny to watch them having a brotherly fight over them!
I will keep you posted on here regarding the 22nd at Morgan’s

      Hi Martin
Daniel’s young Swans are doing well – they beat Liverpool last weekend but more importantly they are playing well.
It’s almost all systems go with Sophie’s flat – there is just a minor complication with the renewed lease but hopefully that should be sorted soon.

    Hi Julia

I took my two sons to see Spectre on the opening night – fantastic film and Daniel Craig “shines once more as James”.
So yes I recommend that you go and see it – Spectre does not disappoint – and it is the longest Bond film to date, not that you would notice, I was totally enthralled, but then I am in love with him.

Let me know what you think – some say “Casino Royale” is the best out of the four, maybe just has a slight edge, but nothing more.

    Keep well, Samantha x

    • Julia Roberts November 4, 2015 at 7:03 pm -  Reply

      Hi Samantha
Thanks for your feedback on Spectre. We will definitely go and see it – I think Casino Royale is probably my favourite Bond film ever so it would take a lot of beating in my eyes.
I too think Daniel Craig is an excellent Bond

What a shame about your computer. MacBook good purchase if you do decide. Heidi got herself one a while back, wow am I jealous.

M’m leek and potato soup, a pub we go to sometimes for Sunday Lunch do Apple and Parsnip Soup, that is delicious, you can’t beat your own home made soup, so much colouring in the tin variety.

That bag was made for Milo, they love bags and boxes dont they.

    Take care.

      Hi Jean
My niece has posted a couple of other pictures on Facebook – Sam looks like he has really accepted him, never a given.
I’ve had varying opinions about a MacBook Air from some of my colleagues at QVC and my daughter Sophie said she wouldn’t be able to help me with anything as she is a PC girl, so now I’m not so sure.
Apple and Parsnip sounds as though it might be a little sweet? Although I am partial to Carrot, Cumin and Honey so maybe I should give it a go.

    Hi Julia
Congratulations on the birth of baby Finlay. He looks very sweet … even though he isn’t covered in fur, lol!!
Thank you again for answering my question on air about the NV top. You are always so thorough and helpful with the questions that come in. I’m looking forward to receiving the top and trousers and will let you know my thoughts on the look and feel, etc.
My favourite soup recipe is small red onion, sweet red peppers, small sweet potato and lots of cherry tomatoes mixed with veggie stock, fresh basil, cashew nuts and a splash of double cream – all whipped up in the Vitamix. Try it sometime, it’s delicious.
We’ve been to see Spectre today – what Samantha said!! Brilliant – completely action packed from start to finish. The two and a half hours just flies by. And Daniel Craig is rather easy on the eye :-)!!

    • Julia Roberts November 5, 2015 at 4:01 pm -  Reply

      Hi Marian
Hee hee hee – even though he isn’t covered in fur!
Your soup combination sounds pretty good – I will try it once I have got a replacement for my Vitamix jug – Chris managed to crack it by using the tamper stick without the lid on when making breadcrumbs! I was not a happy bunny – we have a Vitamix TSV this weekend so will have to find out about getting a replacement.
Definitely need to organise a trip to the cinema by the sound of things. I was worried about the length of the movie but I think all the Daniel Craig ones have been quite long – oh well, more of Daniel on the the screen!!!
Hope you like the NV top and trousers
