A hectic start to the new year

Miceal doing some DIY workWoah! What a start to the new year. Is it just me or does it feel like it's only the second week in January rather than the middle of February? I honestly don't know where the time has gone to.

To be honest, I'm now in a bit of a panic. If the rest of this year goes at the same pace as the past six weeks, I feel like I should just start buying my Christmas presents now. Maybe it's just my age, but even if it is, it doesn't make me feel any better. Is it just me? Anyone else feel the same way?

Miceal dismantling a bedTo be fair, I have had a lot going on. I rang in the new year looking for a new flat as the one I was renting got sold really quickly so I was effectively homeless. So a little bit stressful. Having found somewhere, it was time to pack up and organise a big move, a little bit more stress!

I got stuck in though: out came the Black and Decker Gyro and quick as a flash I was dismantling beds, bookcases and shelving units. Exhausting!

I have been trying to find a little place to buy, my first home, but with the state of the property market the way it is and prices in London skyrocketing, it's a bit more of a difficult job than I thought it would be. My list of requirements has gotten shorter and shorter as the weeks have gone on in sheer desperation of trying to find something, anything! My mother is now saying daily novenas with her prayer group! Still no sign of the perfect little flat yet though! Watch this space.

So all in all, my home life has been a little unsettled to say the least.

Beauty Bash

Miceal with Debbie and Julia at the Beauty BashOne of the high points of the year so far though has been the QVC Beauty Bash. It was my first visit to this event and I was blown away. It was much bigger than I had imagined and there were so many of our leading brands there. When I asked them why they were participating the response was unanimous, they all said it was the opportunity to meet you, the customers. And meet you we did.

I chatted to so many of you the day I was there and it was great to hear all the feedback you had. I wasn't alone as I was joined by Julia Roberts, Debbie Flint, Marverine Cole and of course the hostess for the event, Alison Young. And as much as we were there to meet and chat with you all there was still time for some fun and some silly dressing up in the photobooth!

Miceal, Debbie, Marverine and Julia at the Beauty BashThere were so many great brands there on the day giving advice (and some freebies) to everyone who came to talk to them. Many of my favourites were there too with Australian Body Care, Imedeen, GlamGlow, A'kin, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Penhaligons, ColorWow, Gatineau, Liz Earle….. The list goes on.

Congratulations to those customers who managed to get invited along. For those who didn't get an invite this year, well there's always next year as the invites are sent randomly, so you never know!

Time for me to get on with the rest of my day and not to mention the rest of my year. If anyone knows some clever way to slow down time I'd appreciate a heads up! Until that happens I guess I will just have to keep running around like the proverbial headless chicken!

Hope your year has gotten off to a flying start.

Miceal. Xx

    Hi Miceal
Sorry to hear about the lack of a flat and I hope you find something suitable. My Dad kicked my backside into gear when I was 18 years old and ‘persuaded’ me to buy my first house and it was a real chore: while all my friends were out partying, I was home paying a mortgage but as they say, “Dad knows best” and it’s true. I would never be able to afford to buy one now so you’re doing the right thing in buying, even if it’s a struggle at first.
I only wish I’d had the Soup Maker that’s sold on QVC – it would have speeded up the time I had to simmer veggies on the stove with a little ham hock in to flavour the stock, in order to make healthy soup which is what I pretty much lived on (bar the odd baked potato – a real treat) for the first two years. Oh, happy times ……. (not!!).
Good luck with everything, and hope your fashion career opens a new chapter in your life. What will you do – stay on with QVC as well, or would you like to ‘do fashion’ full-time? Very exciting for you.
