Well, hello there! Isn’t this glorious weather wonderful?
Ok, not everyone likes the sun and heat but I do. My son, Tom, and my best chum, Steven, hate it and much prefer the cold. Regardless of the weather I know most of the nation will appreciate a Bank Holiday weekend. I worked Saturday and Sunday but, seeing as I adore my job, it was still a great one with my friends! Hopefully, you’ve had some time to enjoy a little rest. Just remember, if you’re out in the sun, don’t forget your Ultrasun if you’re a sun lover, like me.
I’m a real homebody and quite like spending time making up new recipes and generally slobbing out in my PJs with my cats! I know, I should get out more. Well, got out I did last week. Fellow presenter, Debbie Flint, and I needed to have new earpieces made for work so we arranged to go together so we could make a day of it. It was a really great day. The Hearing Counsellors are fantastic and make earpieces for almost everyone you can think of who’s on TV so they really know their stuff.
Julie, the audiologist who we had our appointment with, was wonderful. She had a great sense of humour as well as vast knowledge so it was really interesting to listen as she talked us through what she was doing. My camera person skills aren’t the best but if you go to Debbie Flint’s blog you’ll see a video of the ear impression taking process. In very basic terms we had pink, squelchy goo syringed into our ears which was removed once it had set and these will be used to create the moulds to make our earpieces. Our ears change shape as we get older which is why we need to get new ones every few years. I guess no body parts can escape the wrath of gravity, not even our ears!!
After we de-goo’d Debbie and I went for some lunch. It was great because we are all a bit like ships that pass in the night most of the time when we’re at the studios! We all leave half-finished conversations scattered throughout the building as we have to dash off to our next show or meeting. We had a lovely, long, lingering catch up. I adore dogs but don’t have one myself, so I got to enjoy Debbie’s through the gift of the iPad. I was also really keen to know more about her Devon retreat. It looks beautiful! It’s on my ‘must visit’ list now. Her little granddaughter is adorable, too. What’s not to love about chatting babies, dogs and country retreats? Of course, we also discussed our mutual love of shopping with QVC! I know, you’d think we’d leave work at work but it’s quite a unique workplace. It’s more like family and it’s a huge part of our lives. It’s also very addictive! My poor postie has had her hands full lately!
Anne Dawson, my dressing room buddy, and I had our hands full on Saturday. Not just our hands, actually, as you’ll discover. The Today’s Special Value deal for Saturday was from Vitamix. If you don’t have one I’d really encourage you to look into it. It’s been one of my top buys ever from QVC. I bought mine a few years back and have used it almost daily. I make dips, soups, smoothies, hummus, cake mixes, ice cream (frozen bananas make a gorgeous dairy free ice cream), nut butters, nut milks and much more.
Back to the Huntley vs Dawson challenge. Our Vitamix expert, Gareth Evans, set up a little challenge for us which was shown on the QVC Facebook page in a live video! You can still watch it if you go the Facebook page, QVCUK. Not everyone is on the book of face so, for you, I’ll explain what happened and you can also watch below:
Gareth had set up an array of ingredients alongside a laminated card which was a specific shade of pink. The winner would be whoever could make a smoothie to match the colour but there were two other ways to win points. One was to be the fastest and the other was to pass the taste test. Well, I’ve made so many things in my Vitamix I don’t know why I did what I did! I think there was a cheeky competitive demon within me that took over! I poured water into my Vitamix as it was running and it went everywhere! Later in the day I felt like I had little bits stuck to my face, even my brows, and it turned out to be my berry mixture that had splattered around the studio earlier.
Spoiler alert! Jump to the next paragraph if you don’t want to know who won until you see the video. Still here? Ok, well this might sound like gloating but the winner was yours truly! I may have made the most mess but I won the triple test. It was all just a bit of fun and if there’d have been an award for the drink with a perfect head on top Anne would’ve won. It was like a pale pink pint, but smaller. One of the reasons I love sharing a dressing room with Anne is because she has a good sense of humour and, like me, can laugh at herself. We did have a good little chuckle.
A blog without beauty? Nope! I couldn’t sign off without first letting you know that Decleor have a Today’s Special Value coming up this Friday 1st of June. It’s called the ‘Sleep and Perfect’ collection. Isn’t it great when your skincare can tackle the anti-ageing concerns whilst you slumber? I’ll be sharing an hour with expert guest, Fiona, on the day so if you’re around come join us and put your skincare questions to Fiona via my social media, text or phone. Here’s a sneak peek at the TSV for now.
I also need to tell you that this is my final blog…
… as a 45 year old! Of course it’s not my last. I’ll be back next Wednesday which is also my 46th birthday so ta ta for now, my lovelies. Have a great week!
Love Catherine (aged 45 and 11 months and 358 days!!) xx
