A couple of good results

Wilfy watching the footballLast week I wrote on my blog about Chris being Crystal Palace's lucky charm this season – he hasn't been to a game so far that we have lost. The good results continued last Saturday as we beat Cardiff City 2 – 0… maybe they will have to rename the club Christal Palace!!??!!

We have an away game against Chelsea tomorrow which we won't be attending, but this was Wilfy checking out the opposition earlier in the week. He was very funny looking for the football behind the television. He has a couple of little balls that he likes to chase but his favourite is still chasing sweet wrappers.

We have just moved the furniture to put the Christmas tree up and there were about fifty wrappers under the two sofas, along with assorted bits of pot pourri carried there and discarded by him.

We nipped out this morning to choose our tree and Chris took it home while Daniel and I visited the local DIY store to buy some shatterproof baubles… I am definitely not risking the beautiful glass collection we have amassed over the years and, the way I look at it, Dan will need some to decorate his tree next year when he has his own home and his own tree.

Wilfy playing with the Christmas treeWilfy has already been batting the branches of the tree and drinking from the water reservoir in the base it's standing in and that was within five minutes of it going up. I fear mayhem on Christmas Day when Sophie and her friend Gilly will be joining us with their two cats Oskar and Milo… EEK!!!

I haven't really done much in the way of Christmas yet because of all the stuff to do regarding our imminent house move, but thanks for all the cards you have been sending in and I will get round to writing some this weekend. I stopped at the card shop the other day to buy some cards and the lady behind me in the queue said, 'Crikey you're going to have wrist-ache writing all those.' I smiled and didn't mention signing five thousand books in the space of two days!!!

Well the other good result I had this week was from the hospital. I'm pleased to be able to tell you that there is another 65% improvement on what are now very minimal levels. I'm not quite in remission yet, which I must confess I was hoping for as an early Christmas present, but I am still responding well to the oral chemotherapy drugs… maybe I'll make remission at my next test in three months.

After my shows today, Fashion on Friday featuring Nina Leonard at 5pm and Price's Candles at 7pm, featuring the fabulous bargain that is the TSV (if it is still around) I am off for five days, apart from the Presenter Christmas lunch on Wednesday, which I will be heading to directly after the dentist!!!! If you are still Christmas shopping with us there is a fab day of beauty products on Sunday, including a Laura Geller TSV.

Price's Candles TSV Laura Geller TSV

Enjoy, much love Julia xx

Happy Christmas Julia and best wishes for a New Year with good news about your health.
Hope your move goes smoothly you seem to have had a lot of practice over the last couple of years.
We have lived in our house too long, now over 33 years. We are looking to move next year to a smaller house now that our 3 boys have up and left.
    Take care,

    Hi Julia,
Glad you football team are doing so well.
Wilfy is definately interested in the game, and he seems to be loving the tree. Yes you are in for great fun at Christmas when Sophie brings her kitten as well. Good Luck.
You said you found fifty sweet wrappers under the settee, were you responsible for eating all those sweet’s. I put a Satsuma on the small table the other evening to eat, went to answer the phone and when I came back where has it gone. Guinness had been playing football with it, had to retrieve it from the floor, oh they are funny aren’t they. Check your boxes when you pack, because that seem’s to be a favourite of Cat’s, forget the nice cosy bed you have just got me, I much prefer the cardboard box.
So glad your results have come back okay, will keep finger’s crossed that it continue’s for you.
Enjoy your day’s off and your trip to the Dentist.
    Take Care,
    Love Jean XX

My naughty cat is the same, every time I move furniture(which isn’t as often as it should be) I find missing ornaments, drinking straws and pens etc. Mine is a year old now and gets worse by the day. He has also broken 2 Christmas tree decorations already, but so far the tree is still standing. I’m sure you will have a lot of fun with your new kitten in the months to come. Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year to you.

    Hi Julia,
Just got back from our holiday to The Gambia, can’t believe,it’s nearly Christmas. !!! When you are out there you just relax, such a wonderful place.White sandy beaches with hardly anyone on them,it reminded me of of when we were on one of the Abaco Island’s in The Bahamas 5 years ago. Bliss. We had a little bungerlow in the garden’s that lead down to the beach, a family of monkey’s used to greet us on our way to breakfast each morning.Plenty of bug’s too lol. It was 38 dgs when we landed at 1-30pm then 35-40 dgs every day and it is the dry season. Already booked to go back at end February. Very naughty….. Ian’s dad is going to visit a friend in New Zealand for 6 weeks, after he drop’s us off at Gatwick Airport, he goes to Heathrow airport. It’s nearly 1 year since he lost his dear wife, and Ian’s mum, so will be a bit painful this Christmas.
Love the photo of Wilfy, you are right to buy shatter proof baubles, and i’m sure Christmas day will be very entertaining.Good new’s about your results and also sad about losing one of qvc’s co workers.
I see you have found a house, bet your relieved, I have a old work friend who now lives in Thatcham in Berks, don’t know if you are near there, any way i hope it all goes though for you, very stressful time house moving , so enjoy Christmas with your family. Are you going anywhere nice after your move, i read you were going on holiday.
Take care, Merry Christmas to you and your family

    Hey Julia ,
What great news re your test results , Woohoo ! You’re v much going in the right direction.I’m nearly there organising the C.mas gifts , just a couple still to get. Can’t imagine what it must be like doing all the festive stuff and organising your house move , respect !
On a more cat based note – Our tree has been up for about a week and as yet Simbi has had a look but nothing more – last year I think he thought it was a real tree like outside and as such decided he was going to climb up and into the branches and sit there observing , lol !
I’ve been feeling pretty good lately , long may it continue ! Wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas and a great 2014 ,
good luck with the move , Kind Regards and hugs , Dawn xxx.

    Hi Julia
‘Christal Palace’!!! LOVE it …. right up my street that!!
I’m so pleased your test results were so positive and, fingers crossed, you make ‘remission’ next time.
Loving the shots of little Wilfy. I have photos of my cats watching wildlife programs on the TV. Beth, my little British Blue-Cream used to sit on the arm of the chair next to the TV when snooker was on and ‘paw’ at the balls! You have to love em, right?!
I’m afraid I have a bone to pick Julia!!! As much as I loved the Lulu Guiness TSV when I turned on the breakfast repeat last Thursday, I was determined not to indulge. I’m one of those people who always said …. “i’d never pay that much for a handbag”. Anyhow, I was doing quite well at managing to resist until you put the Cat Charm on the black bag. I thought, that looks fab ……… yes, you guessed it ….. next thing I was on Q Cut ordering both!!!!! I haven’t been brave enough to break it to Chris yet so any advice you can give me in that direction would be much appreciated!!!! If you don’t hear from me for a while ……..!!!!
    Love Marian
PS. Loving the Vitamix …… you definitely should have got one!!!

    Hi Julia.
So glad that you have had good news and that things are much improved, it is silly that I do not really know you but have been concerned about your health as I am sure have other QVC viewers.
My tree went up on 1st December, a Blue Spruce, fake of course, but has fooled many, it takes quite some time to assemble but is well worth the effort and I must say looks brilliant.
Due to being an avid QVC shopper all my presents were bought well in advance, now wrapped and under the tree. This year I also purchased a box of Ann Griffin cards which I have really enjoyed making, they have been posted and hope well received. I suppose that is one of the joys of retirement Julia, time to do all those things which a working girl just wishes she could.
Looking forward this week to a few girlie lunches, Carol services, coffee and mince pies.
Wishing you a Happy Christmas and Healthy New Year.
    Love Vivienne xx

    Dear Julia,
So glad to hear of your improved test results- onwards and upwards! I don’t envy you with all that packing and” upping sticks” again. We’ve been through it quite a few times ourselves. Each time saying “never again!” It looks like we’ll be eating our words again as, due to ill health we hope to look for a more managable abode in the New Year. I can tell you I’m not relishing it as we had some-what of a traumatic experience last time!!
I replied to one of your blogs recently because I hope to get a little moggy as at the moment it is too busy an area where we currently are.
Well I wish you and your family a Very Happy Christmas and more importantly a Healthy and Joyous New Year.
As the past 18 months has been a bit of an ordeal with me, health-wise, I to look forward to a brighter and healthier 2014.
Very best wishes, Tina (West Glam., South Wales)

Oh julia that is such good news for you health wise, I am sure you will make remission in 2014. I love the Wilfy stories and photos! We had fun with Elsa and our tree, she ran up it a couple of times a bit frightened so I did the gentle water bottle spray at her and she hasnt done it since, her fav game is chasing a ball ornament which has become hers now I think. I just love watching her play. I have had her 5 weeks today and just adore her. I did laugh at the sweet wrappers though. Good luck with 2 cats visiting at Xmas! My middle daughter whose kitten is a week older than Elsa is leaving him at home in Bristol for 4 days but has got a friend to go and sleep at her house.
Hope you have enjoyed your few days off and I wish you and your family a wonderful Xmas and new year julia, sending you very much love, Diane xxx

    Hi Julia
Just a quick one, up to my ears sorting things out and don’t get me on the utility companies, something so simple has turned out to be very complicated! Chris booked his last holiday days, but has been called in today, not a happy bunny!
I am so pleased to hear that your test results are positive, maybe not the Christmas present you wanted, but hopefully a New Year present awaits.
My last bloods were OK when I saw my GP and the stomach pains have all but gone…he was relieved, because he didn’t know what to do with me next, had they still been there. I have lost weight though 8lbs in total, maybe it was stress after all.
Thought your Philosophy hour was funny with the strange backgound voices, bet you were glad it wasn’t anything risque!!!

Last but definitely not least, great news on your test results aMnd here’s hoping the next test will be even better. Hi Julia. I am so happy about your great hospital results. Onwards and upwards.
Its funny reading about Wilfy’s antics, but this is what you get from owning cats, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Sadly my cat Sophie passed away in the spring, and we all miss her so much. But as you know yourself its all those dotty, and lovable things they do that make having them in your life so memorable and worthwhile (including the mad half hours!)
My Mum got the Laura Geller tsv for herself, and a few for presents. Laura seems such a fun and warm hearted person, and her baked powder is so easy to use. As a person who is clueless about make up, I find it idiot proof!
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
    All the Best,

Wilfy is so cute , I just risked putting up my Christmas tree as I have two Savannah kittens which I got in March . It took several days and several stages to get the tree up and furnished , although I think the baubles were just a step too far lol .
Be careful to stop wilfy drinking water , from the tree water as resin from the trunk can pollute the water and maybe harmful to your kitten .

Wilfy has been ok with the tree – a few mad moments and knocking baubles off but generally not too bad although it will be quite different with four cats here I’m sure. He has also been very helpful with the silver and gold ribbon I’ve been wrapping around presents, as you can no doubt imagine.
Very relieved about results, can relax and enjoy Christmas now. Hope you do too

I was kind of hoping Wilfy would grow out of his mischievous ways over the next couple of months. Sorry to hear your cat has broken a couple of baubles – sounds like I made the right decision to buy some inexpensive unbreakable ones for this year … no tinsel either as I think it would just prove too tempting for him.

The results were pleasing and at least I can relax over Christmas until the next lot are due.

Thanks so much for your tip about spritzing water in Wilfy’s direction every time he went near the tree ….. it worked. After the initial few attempts at playing in the tree and getting wet, he stopped bothering apart from occasionally swiping a bauble. He enjoyed having Oskar and Milo to play for two days and I think it did Poppy good too as she is now much friendlier with Wilfy – probably regards it as good news that the other two are not permanent fixtures.
