A busy January and making plans!

I can’t believe January is at its end and February is upon us already. It’s been a busy start to the year, but I took an afternoon off at the weekend to spend some time with my niece – a good excuse to head off to Cotswold Wildlife Park, which isn’t really all that far from where I live but which I haven’t visited in about 10 years. I’m not always a fan of zoos as such, but this place does great work in the conservation and breeding of endangered species and in educating the public about environments and animals which are at risk.

They have a wonderful, big walk-through lemur enclosure, and we were lucky enough to get a close-up view of a beautiful, very chilled sifaka (one of the most endangered lemur species, only found in Madagascar). Oh, his little face and the way he was sitting, hugging his little knees! I have a degree in zoology and worked in the field for a couple of years after university before life led me into journalism and down a new career path, but I’ve always thought I’d love to work with animals again in some capacity in the future, maybe as a volunteer after I’ve retired from the day job. We shall see!

My aim to run 1,000 miles for Headway UK in 2019 has got off to a good start, with just over 90 miles already in the bag in January. My favourite run of the month was a half marathon on historic Greenham Common. Remember the “Embrace the Base” protest in the eighties? This event was called “Embrace the Race”, and was a trail run across the common, past lakes and through woods. It was FREEZING (zero degrees!) but I really enjoyed it and the themed medal was fabulous! There’s more information on why I’m doing all this running on my JustGiving page. Roll on month two; I’m just trying really hard not to get ill or injured because it’s hard enough fitting the miles in around everything else as it is. It will definitely get easier as the days get longer though.

Life is also about to get even busier for a while, because house moving day is getting closer! I’m still trying not to get too excited about it because it all fell through last year, but it looks like things are moving along nicely at the moment and we have tentatively fixed a March moving date. In another week or so I might allow myself to start planning colour schemes and decorating ideas, and the removal firm is bringing the boxes around in a week or so, so packing can commence. We’ll be staying in Gloucestershire but just moving from the village we moved into about eight years ago, and back to town, where all of our friends and social life are. Please, please let it work out this time!

Geox Giyo Pailettes Hi Top Trainers 172942

Before I go a quick mention for a brand we have at QVC which for some reason I’ve only just properly discovered – how has it taken me so long?! It’s a shoe brand (oh dear…I really struggle to resist nice shoes) which lots of you might already be fans of – Geox. I spotted these gorgeous sparkly hi-top trainers and thought oooooh! Geox Annya Knee High Boot 173452

And when I presented the Morning Show with my buddy Chloe Everton earlier this week she was wearing these gorgeous suede knee-high boots in the chestnut option, which I was also rather taken with. Definitely a brand I need to keep an eye on…

Bye for now.

    Hi Jackie
Thank you for sharing the lovely pictures of you and your friend the sifaka. Like you, I have mixed feelings about keeping animals in captivity, but good Wildlife Parks certainly play a crucial part in helping endangered species and the amazing sifaka looks in great health. I hope that your wish to work with animals again in the future becomes a reality and that you enjoyed your time with your niece.
I just wanted to wish you all the best with your running as well – I hope you raise lots for your chosen cause and fingers crossed for the house move.
    Love Jules x

      Hi Jules,
Yes it’s a tricky one isn’t it? But as so many of our wildlife species become endangered, something has to be done and there are definitely some great organisations working to protect them. Thank you so much for the kind words…I have a busy time coming up but hopefully it will keep me out of trouble!

Hi Jackie, good luck with achieving the 1,000 miles this year, no wonder you look as good as you do!
the real reason I am contacting you is because I am a fan of Ruth Langsford jeans, item no:- 168322 they are the slim leg jeans in regular length, I have a few pairs, sadly the black pairs are now dark blue as I’ve worn. and washed them umpteen times, I love them, I get size 8 but they have been out of stock for such a long time, is it possible you could ask Ruth if they are coming back I have ordered dk indigo but the black really are my favourite, I wear them when I want to look smart. I did try to messenger Ruth to ask her, I don’t know how to get through to QVC any other way. I only ask as you tend to do most of Ruth’s shows with her, I don’t mean to be presumptuous but I am desperate.

I know you are probably too pushed to answer, I will listen in to all Ruth’s shows in case it gets a mention.

      Hi Maggie,
I am back on air with Ruth this coming Thursday so I will definitely ask her then, although she may not know…the jeans seem to sell out so quickly! But just a tip to look out for Ruth’s latest Today’s Special Value on Saturday- I’ll be launching it with her on Friday night and guess what…it’s some new jeans! And I’m always happy to try to help, so you’re not presumptuous at all, that’s what we are here for.
      Love Jx
