Olley and I have always enjoyed taking short city breaks and in recent years, we’ve tried to speed through the long month of January by indulging in a long weekend somewhere different. Although we’ve both been lucky to travel with our careers neither of us had been to Vienna before, so we decided to visit the city of Sachertorte, operatic arias and apfel strudel this year.
It’s a small enough city to walk around easily, and the public transport of buses, trams and underground is simple to get to grips with too. We were sort of hoping for it to be snowy but actually the cold and dry weather was probably better for getting around – and it was certainly cold enough to justify the occasional hot chocolate!
We had booked tickets to see Bizet’s Carmen at the State Opera House. Even the cheapest tickets were a load of money but it was worth every penny. We’re not opera buffs at all but, I think, everyone would recognise the most familiar tunes from Carmen. And there is a little screen in front of every seat that translates the words to help you follow the storyline. But it was more about the amazing production, drawing you in to all the emotion. The curtain rose to about 150 people on stage, and when they all sang together the feeling the sound evoked was immense.
All in the most beautiful building, with marble staircases and statues lining the route up to our seats. An experience I’ll only have once, but what a memory!
It was difficult to decide what to wear. Although most people don’t wear evening dresses, I wanted to look smart, but I was only taking hand luggage. In the end I was happy in my Michelle Hope velvet shirt, velvet catches the light beautifully and brings an ‘eveningy’ look to an outfit. During the day I was warm in my Centigrade jacket, and InCashmere scarf.
Being out in the cold for most of the time we were there didn’t do my skin any favours. It’s probably my age, but I’m finding that my skin is sensitive and reactive – it doesn’t like cold, heating, too much make-up, removing make-up or too many changes in skincare. One thing I tend to turn to when I need to settle any reaction is SBC Propolis gel.
Propolis is a resinous mixture that honey bees collect from tree buds and other botanical sources. In the hive, it’s used to seal and also protect the bee larva chambers, acting as a natural disinfectant against bacteria. Using propolis in skin care products may offer a similar defence for our skin. It can help in a balancing, restorative way, soothing and calming problematic skin.
Certainly, many QVC viewers have found, like me, that it helps their temperamental skin, you can read some brilliant stories about how it has helped on our website. One 250ml bottle has 62 five star reviews out of 68. Or go for a duo of 500ml which is five star rated.
But I’d advise waiting until Wednesday this week, when you can order the new SBC Today’s Special Value – a three piece body and bath collection that will not only include generous sizes of the Skincare Gel and the Bath and Shower Gel but, and here’s the exciting bit…!, a brand new Propolis Body Spray Milk Lotion, which is light and easily absorbable. It contains not just propolis extract but also vitamin E and safflower oil to hydrate and condition the skin, and will be particularly beneficial for stressed skin like mine.
There will also be a collagen option for the TSV – the same great value but featuring the ever popular collagen range from SBC. SBC expert Adele will be with us to help you decide which would be the best option for you to try, but I don’t need any advice on that – it’s propolis all the way for me!
Hopefully see you for the Morning Show airing of the SBC TSV (I love all those initials!) on Wednesday, and don’t forget 10am Morning Style. Everything will be available in 3 Easy Pay instalments this week, so a great opportunity to add to your wardrobe. We have some MarlaWynne and Joules pieces especially for the show, and plenty more to enjoy. If you can’t join us for the live show, there are some repeats on our other channels that you might catch – 9pm the same day on QVC Extra and then 9am Thursday and 6am and 7pm Friday on QVC Style – details of how to find those channels are below. And don’t forget, you can take a look at the most recent show’s outfits online on the Morning Style page right here.
