From my house to yours

Well Christmas is almost upon us and I just wanted to thank everybody who has read and responded to my blog over the past year – I love reading your comments and really appreciate the time you take to keep up a dialogue with me. I’ve finished at QVC for Christmas (I’ll be seeing a lot of you over New Year), but it was a hectic few days.

After my shift on Friday, Sophie met me at work and we went to Ali Keenan’s gathering. It was lovely to meet up with some of my presenter colleagues out of work and also to see Kathy’s husband Olly, who took the cover photo of me for my first book, ‘One Hundred Lengths of the Pool’.

A good evening was had by all and a big thank you to Ali for hosting it.

our-christmas-treeI had the weekend off, which gave me the opportunity to go and buy the Christmas tree with Chris and our daughter, Sophie. The afternoon was then spent decorating it in this year’s themed colours of red and gold.

So far,Wilfie has been fairly well behaved with it, only knocking a couple of baubles off, but that could all change when his brother Milo arrives to stay over Christmas!

Monday was the first of our presenter Christmas lunches and, although I didn’t manage to get any photos, you may well have seen the video of Anne Dawson wearing her ‘Secret Santa’ netball hat and us all trying to score goals – we were useless and I have to say the waiter was not amused!

I love my secret Santa present! I had spotted the Famous Five book in WH Smith and almost bought it for myself so was really chuffed when I opened up my parcel – I’m looking forward to relaxing and reading them properly over Christmas.

By the way, if you are expecting a Kindle or an electronic device that supports the Kindle app, check out the blog on my website for information on a fabulous post-Christmas deal. For everyone who is signed up to my newsletter already, there is also the chance to win a little prize – well, it is Christmas.

Once again, thanks to those of you who have sent in cards – I’ve done my best to reciprocate when I’ve had return addresses.

Speaking of which, I came across this in my desk drawer when I was having a sort out. It is the first ever QVC Christmas card from 1993 – I wonder how many of you recognise the original presenters?

attic-roomAs promised, here is a picture of our attic room that Chris has been working so hard on to finish in time for Sophie’s stay over Christmas. I think he has done an amazing job.

The other part of the attic room will house my office desk where I may well do my writing in 2017, away from the hustle and bustle of the house.

I hope you have all enjoyed shopping with QVC this year and, if you intend to tune in on Christmas Day, here’s a heads up of our Charlie Bears Today’s Special Value.

It is a limited edition Isabelle Lee bear created especially for QVC customers and there are only five hundred to go round – cute eh?

I hope you will enjoy Christmas, be you surrounded by people or raising a glass on your own, and I look forward to sharing more with you on here in 2017.
Much love,
Julia xx

      Hi Teresa
I had a lovely Christmas thanks – Boxing Day & the 27th were particularly good fun with lots of games being played!
I asked the question about the Christmas card on Facebook too & only 2 or 3 people could remember everyone’s name although lots remembered the original faces.
I’m hoping to have a few more shows of Butler & Wilson this year – fingers crossed
      Happy New Year

Hi Julia, your tree looks lovely as does the attic room. I’m sure Sophie will enjoy her time spent in there. We have been preparing our spare room for my son and daughter in law as they are staying with us overnight on Christmas Day. It does need a bit more work but it will do the job for now. They only live 15 mins walk away but they have a baby due on the 30th so daughter in law in no fit state to walk! We are very excited and can’t wait.
    Have a very Happy Christmas.
    Love Denise x

      Hi Denise
I’m wondering if we’ve made the attic room a little too comfy as Sophie arrived on Christmas Eve & seems pretty settled…. as in, has shown no interest in going home! Only joking – it’s lovely to gave her with us.
I hope everything goes well with the new baby.
      Happy New Year

    Hi Julia

Just a quick one to wish you a very ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Happy, Healthy New Year’!

As always I really enjoy reading your blog and think Chris has done a cracking job on the attic room, looks very comfy and bright.

Thank you for your card and note…you were right about the Christmas card and who was on it. Both Bailey and Chris won the best dressed Christmas costume at the Dog Training class, a right pair of Elves they were!

Like yourself, way behind this year, due to not being able to drive aargh! I am currently in the middle of trying to marzipan my Christmas cake, but proving awkward using the rolling pin. Have to have 5 day visits to the Hospital over the next few weeks for ultrasound and massage, as there is a lot of scar tissue, due to depth of incision, even though I’ve been really good with the mix of Aqueous Cream and Prolagene Gel on my hand. I told the occupational therapist, it feels like I’ve got a ‘Sausage’ in there at the moment…hopefully it will get better over the next few weeks, but it’s playing havoc with the rolling pin!

Hope you all have lots of nice pressies and lots of laughter…Merry Christmas!!

      Hi Annette
Just laughing at your version of a quick post…..
I hope you managed to get your Christmas cake marzipaned in the end – you should have got Chris to do it under instruction from you!
You really have been through the mill with all your different health issues over the past few years – here’s hoping 2017 will be much better for you.
I was a very lucky girl – Chris bought me a proper writing desk for Christmas so I won’t have to struggle with my baby laptop bouncing around on the table-mate while I’m writing the 80,000 words for my next novel! I’ll put a picture on this week’s blog.
Hope Santa was kind to you too
Happy New Year to you both
      Julia x

Merry Christmas Julia – I’m the lady that tweeted you a few weeks ago about wearing a CPAP and you thought I was being rude! You might like to know it stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and I wear it because I snore so badly that my husband couldn’t sleep in the same room. Problem now solved! Hope you have a lovely Christmas with your family xx

      Hello Linda
I remember I was on with Alison O’Reilly selling Diamonique – I think she explained it to me when I read your text out! Maybe I should look into it for my other half as he is a ‘demon’ snorer!
Hope you had a good Christmas & wishing you a Happy New Year

      Hi Linda
Thanks for the Christmas wishes, we had an enjoyable time.
It’s funny, I always think there hasn’t been much change in the Presenter line-up at QVC until I sit down and think about all the people who have come and gone – maybe I should set it as a competition question in 2017 …. it would need to be a pretty big prize I think!
      Happy New Year
      Julia x
