Now that autumn’s here, it’s time to clear out the clutter. But where to start? Sisters Louise Unger and Corinne Laurie from The Camouflage Company share a few expert tips…
1. Set a storage goal… and stick to it.
When decluttering, it pays to have a vision. Which essentials must stay and what can go? What belongs in the room and what can be safely stored for next season? Keep that picture of a calm, clutter-free home in your mind: it’s great motivation!
2. Bag it, box it, store it.
Working on one room at a time, set out four boxes (our Large Foldaway Storage Chests are ideal) and mark them ‘keep’, ‘recycle’, ‘charity’ and ‘store’. Then, be ruthless and go through every item in each room one by one – you’ll soon see a result!
3. Take care of your clothes.
Wardrobe bulging with clothes you never wear = stressful.
‘Sort, store, save’, that’s our motto.
Pack away anything you don’t use, but can’t bear to throw out, and invest in storage so pretty you can keep it in full view. Our Lidded Space Saver Storage Bag is perfect for clothes, accessories and bed linen. You can also keep wool and cashmere looking pristine in our Sweater Storage Bags.
4. That lipstick is how old?!
Blast through the bathroom, throwing away anything that’s gone gloopy and gunky. Cosmetics have a surprisingly short shelf-life and are a breeding ground for germs, so start over with a beautiful new make-up bag, like our set of two Multi-Purpose Pouches.
5. Sell, sell, sell!
Now you’ve sorted the junk from the jewels, make some extra cash by selling unwanted items online or at a car boot sale. You may not need those toys, DVDs and boots anymore, but remember, one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Sort your wares into boxes and bags ready to sell; our Small Foldaway Box and Caddy and Large Foldaway Bags will fit the bill.
