Who will eat all the pies?! Enter my competition!

This week’s blog brings news of Thursday’s Today’s Special Value offering from Shark and an opportunity to enter my Twitter competition to win a generous hamper of tasty goodies from The Real Pie Company in advance of their February Today’s Special Value offer.

Ellie’s been having to take it easy at home, following her spaying operation last Thursday, which appears to have gone extremely well. With Ali and Jack living away from home for much of the year, we did discuss the possibility of breeding from Ellie in the future, but after much discussion, we both agreed that as much as we’d love having a gorgeous litter of fluffy Beardie pups, the reality requires a lot of dedication, know-how and sleepless nights. If you saw the slo-mo video in last week’s blog – you’ll appreciate how hard it’s been for her being walked solely on a lead. To help her out until her stitches are removed, I’ve been using a long extending lead – it’s a case of tough love as we obviously know the dangers of her over doing it, which she would of course do, in the wag of a tail!

I’ve included a picture of her litter at her breeder Carol’s home (so you can see for yourselves why we considered the possibility).

If like us you’re a pet owner or you’re on the look out for a versatile vacuum cleaner then perhaps our Today’s Special Value offering this Thursday from Shark may be just the ticket! I’ll be launching the Shark Rocket on Wednesday at midnight and it’s a really clever combination of a steerable handstick vacuum that also can clean and dust hard floors with it’s ‘dustaway’ head! It’s a corded machine and so I was expecting lots of power but it still really impressed me with two power settings. It’s also bagless and has washable dust filters and compacts down for storage or can be wall mounted with the included wall bracket, as well as coming complete with accessories and three washable dustaway microfibre pads. I particularly loved the scissors groove in the brush bar to allow me to cut away any long dog hairs! Powerful, manoeuvrable and affordable.

On Tuesday the 2nd February , the Today’s Special Value is from multi-award winning The Real Pie Company and in honour of their tasty offer, I have negotiated with my pals Brett and Christine to kindly provide a mouth-watering competition prize – a complete Today’s Special Value Hamper PLUS a Real Pie Company mug and pie dish!

The hamper is bursting with delicious flavours including:

2 x Steak & Stout Pies

2 x Steak & Mushroom Pies  (Gold Award Winner at the British Pie Awards 2015)

2 x Peppered Steak (one of Brett and I’s favourite pies)

2 x Steak & Mature Cheddar (new and only on QVC)

2 x Chicken & Root Vegetable Pies

2 x Chicken, Bacon & Leek in white wine sauce (new and only on QVC)

2 x Chicken & Mushroom (British Pie Award Winner)

Real Pie competition

To stand a chance of winning this prize fit for a king, simply head over to Twitter and keep an eye out @dalefranklinTV for my competition tweet, then simply Retweet it and Follow me and @TheRealPieComp. We’ll be announcing the lucky winner before the first Today’s Special Value airings. Twitter is free to sign up for, but if you don’t want to do this, why not ask a friend to enter for you? See the full Terms and Conditions.

As you know, I make no secret of the fact that I love these pies as I believe they offer such ‘crammed to the crust’ quality and never skimp on their fillings. As I have said many times on-air, I’m not a ‘Pastry Fan-Boy’, but the various pastries used in making these pies is quite superb and only serves to enhance the fillings.

As there can only be one winner, if you are not the lucky one I can strongly recommend you trying this multi award-winning brand’s Today’s Special Value. I’ll be on The Lunchtime Show at 1pm on Tuesday too – perfect! Pies in The Lunchtime Show… mmmmmmmmmmm! Can’t wait!

Until next time .. Good Luck and Good Eating !

well done for not breeding Dale, there are masses of beautiful dogs in rescue who need people, usually because of house moves, babies or just plain old lack of interest on the part of the owner – I even knew of a cat that came in because it didn’t match the décor anymore – so Dale, I take my hat off to you

Hi Dee, Lovely to hear from you – sadly that is the case too many times but – my heart weeps for those who selflessly decide to give up their much loved pets because they can no longer cope and put the best interest of their pet first – hats off to them too – Dale x

    Hi Dale,
Wow it is nice to read that their are responsible dog owners still. I thought what you said about breeding was just great. So many people just breed for the sake of it. Puppies like you say take a lot of time and dedication, and money. You can’t just Leave them to fend for themselves.

That photograph of all the pups they are gorgeous, you can quite see why people want one, but sadly when it has grown up it is less interesting to lots of people and poor things get abandon. Mind you so do lots of litters of pups. One thing that I hate to see is the breeding of two different breeds, especially the small one’s. No good to the future health of dogs.

I had to have my gorgeous border collie put to sleep just before Christmas, he had cancer, I also lost two of my Labradors last year as well they both had cancer as well. Also my husband,s Labrador bitch who he takes shooting she had a pyometra so she was spayed a few weeks ago. It was a good thing I knew what was wrong with her as it is a matter of life or death when they get that,. She has fully recovered now.

    Your two are gorgeous.

Oh you mention the pies oh they are the best, always got plenty in the freezer. Along with Green Seasons you can’t go wrong.

Hope Ellie will soon be bounding around the woods again soon.

    Love Jean X

Hi Jean, poor you, what a rollercoaster year for you and your pets ! Good to hear your husband’s Labrador is now doing so well. Glad you love the pies ! Dale x

Love this blog Dale. It features everything I love, sharks, dogs and pies. The mention of chocolate and it would have been a full house – BINGO. Never mind, three out of four is good 🙂

Oh, don’t start me off about breeding dogs Dale. This is one time I’m really gonna have to keep my mouth shut.

Right decision Dale and I absolutely agree with Dee. There are far too many beautiful dogs out there already waiting for their forever home. I only have rescue dogs and always will. Every breed imaginable can be found in rescue centres. We definitely don’t need any more dogs.

Wishing Ellie a speedy recovery x

Sitting looking out to sea, shark watching, eating hot pies followed by choccie, heaven, absolute heaven. Check out ‘deep blue’ on YouTube Dale, amazing. She’s a real beauty.

Sorry for your loss Jean. It’s heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking, been there a few times. Lol

    Lol D xx

Ha ha Chocolate Bea ! Obviously, I didn’t rescue my two, but my Mum has rescued her last 3 dogs and she too wouldn’t have it any other way ! Dale x

I meant shark spotting Dale, obviously. I should be so lucky to have seen a shark, although I do live in hope. I absolutely believe Great Whites pop in and out of our waters very occasionally. No reason why they wouldn’t or couldn’t xx

Rather upset because of my lack of technology (I don’t tweet, text or facebook) I’m exluded from entering your competition.

    • Dale Franklin February 3, 2016 at 1:57 pm -  Reply

Hi Judith, I would never exclude anyone from entering my competitions, so I’m really sorry you feel upset – but it’s as easy to tweet, as leaving your comment above. But as I said in my blog if Twitter isn’t for you (which I respect) but you’d still like to enter, perhaps ask a friend to enter for you ? – I have ran blog comp’s in the past and will probably do so again in the future 🙂 Dale x

    Hi Daleo
Fab blog. Those puppies are simply scrumptious just like the pies, and you of course!!
Great news about a TSV coming up, I’ll make some room in my freezer this weekend!
Hope Ellie is soon on the mend, bless, and love to Toby.
Will definitely look out for your tweet.

Hello Dale, we have Ellies sister Lola but no photos of the litter as Lola was the only one left as Carole was keeping her, but at the last minute decided to let her go, so when we went over there was only Lola and Cracker left to be collected.
Would it be possible to email any photos you have especially the one you posted with them all on.
    We would be very grateful.
Lola is the spitting image of Ellie.
    Thankyou Claire x

Hi Claire, Great to hear from you! Believe it or not as a pup Ellie was a chocolate Brown colour (Ellie No Mates is at the back !) The photo was sent by Carole just before we got Ellie – I’ll happily send over this and other photos I have – I took quite a few when they were 5 weeks old – If I send them all I’m sure you can spot Lola amongst them. Could you just confirm you are happy for our Interactive dept to pass on your email to me 🙂 Dale x

I agree with Judith that not tweeting, facebooking or texting that excluded me and others like us from entering the competition which is very disappointing. Why not have it open to all by leaving an entry in the comment box like other presenters do.

    • Dale Franklin February 3, 2016 at 2:16 pm -  Reply

Hi Bobbysgirl, Good to hear from you but I’m sorry to hear that you are disappointed – to enter other competitions on QVC you would have to text or tweet to enter and it seems to work well for many – but I respect your choice not to tweet or text etc and will probably run a “blog comment” competition again, as I have in the past – My Mum doesn’t have internet at all and has never read one of my blogs ( a blessing for both of us !) but despite me offering to get her online many times – she resists and I love and respect her for that. Dale x

Hi Dale, that would be great we are fine with you receiving our email address. Lola is the third on the right of the picture.
    Thankyou so much
