2018 – time to get lean!

22

Well, mid-January may seem a little late to be wishing you a happy new year but, for me, it’s traditionally when my good intentions/resolutions begin. So happy new year to you!

Here’s why I don’t start new regimes on New Year’s Day: there’s just way too much temptation left over from the festive period to resist and I don’t believe in throwing out food. Another reason is that, once Christmas is packed away on twelfth night, it all feels a bit bleak, cold and dark. Therefore I tuck in to all the surplus cheese, those leftover chocs that no one else fancied and the final few measures of Baileys left lingering. All without the slightest tinge of guilt.

This year, actually last year now, I seem to have succumbed to temptation on a whole new level as I’ve gained a couple of extra stones from indulging from October onwards! There are some up sides to this gain. One is that my bum is back with a vengeance. When I lose weight I lose my tush. At the moment I have a very cushioned caboose which means I fill my dresses out quite nicely. I’m quite happy with my size but there are two major reasons why I’m committing to getting myself off to a healthier start this year.

Reason 1: Health. Reason 2: Tone.

If you read my blog regularly you will be aware of my success with weight loss using Christianne Wolff’s Body Rescue Plan. If you don’t, in summary I lost around 3 stones on her plan and several dress sizes. What I love about the plan is that it’s not about starvation, it’s about being healthy and educating yourself on what to eat and why. Christianne now has her Vegan Body Rescue Plan which is the same but with vegan recipes. I’ve decided to commit to giving this a go to ‘reset’ for 2018. My plan is to follow it, unwaveringly, for a month. I’ve recently been researching the benefits of a plant-based diet for health and this seems like a good way to trial it for myself.

As for toning up, I am going to pick up my Bodyblade and actually start using it! I bought it aaaaaaaaaages ago. By ages I mean years. It’s one of those things that I keep meaning to do but just don’t and I can’t quite work out why because it’s so simple! I recently had an hour-long show with Bruce, the inventor of Bodyblade, and was so inspired by many of your stories of using it but also massively motivated by the realisation that I really only have to use it for 6 minutes three times a week to see results! I’ve taken it out of hibernation and did my first one minute workout today before work, ha ha! Obviously I’m going to step it up. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

If you’re planning to get fitter and healthier this year then you could have a look at our Health & Wellbeing page featuring TV presenter and health guru, Jenni Falconer. Don’t forget to look out for soup makers, juicers and healthy supplements, too. There’s loads of ideas to help you get motivated.

I’d love to hear your stories and your resolutions so feel free to share. Here’s wishing you a very happy and healthy 2018 whatever your plans are for the year ahead.

Love Catherine xx

    Hi Catherine
Happy New Year. I hope everything goes well for losing the weight and toning your body. You certainly look well.

Even though I had problems with my tum over the Christmas period I feel a bit porky. Last year in February I had a chest infection, which left me with a nasty cough, and absolutely wiped me out. I went off my food, so lost weight, which unfortunately is the only way I can lose weight, because I find it hard to go on a diet, so I just have to cut down. When I went for an NHS medical, I was really surprised to find how much weight I had lost. So I came out feeling really smug because I had passed all the tests. I had noticed that my jeans and trousers, especially my jeans and leggings felt looser. I tend to put my weight on my thighs and knees, which is difficult to shift. Anyway like you, I got my body blade out of the corner, and started to use it. I struggled at first, but eventually it came back. So I’m going to try to use it as often as I can. Also I love to have a boogie, especially to disco, and I had recorded a programme about 70s disco over Christmas, so that got me motivated. I have also started back at my Pilates class, which I find helps to tone me, especially my legs. So I’m off to a good start, hopefully. But when you see the awful wet weather we’ve had today, it makes you want a chocolate bar!

    Good Luck
    Stay safe
    X

Hi Catherine I have been using the bodyblade now every single day and I do my 30 minute bodyblade routine followed by 30 mins of yoga exercises, I eat normal if I fancy a treat I will have one without feeling guilty about it. I don’t do faddy diets and I am fit, healthy and toned thanks to the daily workouts I do. I think you look so much healthier with your bit weight gain but if you want to lose weight try not to lose too much because as we all get older losing too much weight can make a person look older than they are. I think you look fab just the way you are. xxx

Hi Catherine Happy new year! I have the same plans as you never start new years resolutions until mid January , as I don’t like wasting food esp my home made Christmas cake which I do share with family & friends & my Baileys Irish cream. After all , life has to be enjoyed esp over the festive season. My Bodyblade sits in the corner of my bedroom but I started using it again today & my lateral thigh trainer. You are a great inspiration to all , esp the young girls out there as too many people are obsessed with over dieting. We all have to look after our health but we have to be a good role models to teenage family members , esp as there are too many young girls with eating disorders these days. Keep up the good work & sensible advice! 🙂

Hi Marilyn. Did the body blade help tone and did it take long to see results? I’m considering buying one….

      Thanks

Catherine: Good luck. I’m sure you will achieve your goal. You always seem so determined and unstoppable when you have a passion to do something, be it health or house ? X

Over spring and summer last year I managed to loose two stones and felt SO much better for it. Some of it has gone back on over November and December, so I’m now back to making a concerted effort to reduce sugar intake and portion sizes, and recording what I eat so I’m more aware of what is really going in. The bodyblade is back out, and I will build back up to my ten minute workout. It’s based on the super six followed by the belly buster, with a couple of changes to accommodate my wheelchair. Best of luck with your efforts!

    Hi Catherine
It does make sense to not quite go on the eat sensible schedule until all the goodie food has gone. I put on 7lbs over the 10 days off diet I did. I am on weight watchers and lost the 7lbs in the 1st week back on. I do weight watcher diet for 5 days and have 2 days off to indulge in my crimbo food that has a great long term expiry date and other food in freezer that didn’t. I do a half run on the treadmill 4 mornings a week doing 3.5 miles then I use the body blade I recently brought on QVC to help tone. Have lost 3 stones in 13 weeks and have 4 more to go but have a size 12 blue jump suit ( brought from QVC) to get into by the summer. Good luck Catherine xx

    Hi Elizabeth,

I know exactly how you feel so you’re not alone! I do it every Christmas. It’s amazing how ,cut better I start to feel even by drinking more water every day. Even a small start is a start.

    Lots of love,

    Hi Heather,

Goodness, it does sound like you had a pretty rough time of it. Not the nicest way to lose weight, I’m sure.

I’m glad you’ve got your Bodyblade back out, like me. I also love that you like a dance. Nothing like a boogie round the lounge to some old nostalgic tunes. I love it!

    Good luck!

    Love Catherine xx

    Hi Georgina,

I really admire your commitment to expertise and glad to hear you love your Bodyblade, too.

I really appreciate your kind comments regarding weight loss. I’m actually not so bothered about losing weight but more about getting back to being healthy and toned. It’s feeling really good to be eating lots of good stuff but I’ll not deny myself treats, either. Next week I’m planning on making some healthy chocolate truffles…if you look back far enough on my blogs I have a recipe on there for them. Ooh, I’m salivating at the thought!

Thanks again for writing, keep well!

    Love Catherine xx

    Hi Jo,

Thanks for your lovely comments. Nice to hear you’re a girl after my own heart.

Great to hear you’ve reacquainted yourself with your Bodyblade! I’m so confident it will make a difference. Even doing one minute with ten seconds on each of the ‘super six’ I can certainly feel it! So convenient, though.

I agree that there’s a lot of pressure these days to be an unhealthy size but, hopefully, that’s changing. I’d love to think I could have any positive influence to anyone so thanks again for your kind words.

    Take care,

    Love Catherine xx
