RevitaLash RevitaBrow - 226253

Thank you for all of your beauty questions that you've been asking on my blog recently. Here's a selection of some of your queries with my suggestions…

On eyebrow growth

The best solution for eyebrows that have been retarded in growth by illness is to use the Revitalash Eyebrow Formula to see if it is possible to bring any hair growth back.

This should be applied to the skin where the eyebrow should be, once a day to begin with. If it is going to work you may only just see a fuzziness of hair within the 30-day money back guarantee period.

However, this product really takes six to eight weeks to work and to see more visible strength and colour depth to the hair. As a result, this product cannot be guaranteed but many ex-cancer patients have seen results.

Laura Geller Brow Marker - 225215An instant result product would be to use the Laura Geller Brow Marker. This was designed by Laura for her best friend when she lost her eyebrows to cancer treatment and it actually stains the skin in the colour of your hair so choose the shade to match and then paint it in small strokes, almost like miniature hairs.

It is a felt-tip type product that unlike, say, a pencil or a wax, does not run or smudge and won't come off in the rain. It does, however, come off easily with normal cleanser.

You can then either use this on its own or go over the top of both brows with an eyebrow pencil such as the bareMinerals Frame and Define Brow Pencil, which has a brow brush on the end to help you shape your brow as well as giving the appearance of hair-like texture. You would only need both products if you like a strong, modern look to your brows.

I hope this helps, Alison.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream - 217769On skincare after weight loss

Claire, firstly, congratulations on losing so much weight. This is a common problem with weight loss, to be left with slackened skin. If you love your Elemis, you need to use the Pro-Intense Lift Effect range, which includes moisturisers, serums, and eye products.

However, if you want to stay with your Elemis Marine Cream as you love the texture, then use Decleor Prolagene Gel beneath it all over the face, neck and eyes. Firming as a result, it does take a long time to get the full effects so persevere with a firming and lifting routine morning and evening.

Instant skin confidence can be achieved by using things like Genie Line Smoother, which, if you apply a thin layer all over the face, or on key slackened areas after your skincare has sunk in, actually tightens and lifts up. It is quite fun at home to even use Genie on one eye and see the lifting and tightening effect within a couple of minutes.

SBC Collagen Gel - 211586On a Collagen skincare routine

Louise, congratulations on your twins. I can completely understand your predicament as Pro-Collagen is difficult to purchase at the moment. Still, put this on your wish list and maybe your Birthday, Christmas and Mother’s Day lists, as someone may be able to get it for you when we have a special offer on.

A quicker, easier and cheaper solution would be to use the SBC Collagen Gel all over the face, neck, bust and any slackened areas on the body for a quick moisturising, firming agent. When you feel your face is drier, lined and wrinkled, then put a thick layer on and it will sink in within 10 minutes. It doesn’t need to be removed so you can be getting your jobs done at the same time.

It is worth purchasing the Collagen Moisturising Cream from SBC and when you have time put the Collagen Gel on all over the face, neck and eyes as a serum. Follow with the SBC Collagen Moisturising Cream. This is 100ml in size and it's drastically more economical for you to use at the moment. Check out this Complete Collagen Collection.

On nailcare

The Red Carpet Manicure Gel System is a semi-permanent application of colour that uses RCM colours that set under the special light. However, once you have done the RCM system on your own nails you can paint any fashion colours such as OPI over the top and let them dry normally.

When you remove the colour ie: OPI with normal varnish remover, your gel coat will still remain underneath. If you want to use the gel coat as a strengthening system (because it does give a re-enforcement to the nail) and use your fashion colours from OPI, Leighton Denny etc. on a regular basis, then it's easiest to choose an RCM colour that is extremely pale or neutral and make sure that all your coats are very thin and your cuticles well pushed back to lessen the re-growth edge and then paint your fashion colours on a daily basis over the top.

Elemis Japanese Camellia Oil - 228787On dry and tight skin

Waking up to dry, tight skin is a sign that your skin needs more product the night before.  If you have very sensitive skin, try taking the products on your bathroom shelf that do work for you, even if they are different brands and putting a layer of each one on before you go to bed.

If you wake up in the night, pop another layer of moisturiser on and if you are at home during the day, put more moisturiser on each time you go to the bathroom.

Sometimes, just two or three days of increased application can get your skin back on track but it may be an indication that you need to find a product to layer underneath your Pro-Collagen Marine Cream.

If your skin is sensitive, rather than using the essential oils try the Elemis Camellia Oil, which is usually used through pregnancy but can be applied underneath your moisturisers. You also may need to increase your exfoliation as, if your skin is holding on to the dead layers of skin, the top layer will feel really dry because the moisturiser is not able to penetrate and get to the new skin cells.

The gentlest exfoliator from Elemis, in this situation, would be the Rose Exfoliant. It has very soft beads in it that your skin will love. The rose water gel hydrates the skin as the beads exfoliate and massage. This can be used two or three times a week.

Gatineau Clear & Perfect Duo - 203101For Problem Skin with constant breakouts

It is essential to use a simple routine for at least three months ie: not too many products. It may be that you have actually switched your products too often. The more you switch your products and the more physical products you use in a routine, the more stimulating it can be to your oil glands.

It is essential to use a cleanser that you enjoy using and to do so morning and night because in the morning oily skin has secretions that have come to the surface while you have slept. So if you are happy with your cleanse and polish, stay with that but use a specific oily skin serum and moisturiser, which is applied morning and night.

We have just launched a new duo from Gatineau called Clear and Perfect Duo, which consists of a serum and moisturiser with a matifying effect to helps balance the skin long term. Keep your routine constant for three months.

Be aware of your diet as well as excessive amounts of crisps or chocolate and high-acid fruits and fruit juices can cause more spots and breakouts. If your breakouts continue to be persistent, you may need a course of medication from your GP but you should see an improvement from your beauty routine - it’s just whether you see enough.

Leighton Denny 2 Piece Repair & Restore Collection - 227347For strengthening nails

I have two possible solutions for you. Firstly, Leighton Denny’s two piece repair and restore collection is designed to buff strength back into the nails and then you massage in the oils on a daily basis, it comes with instructions.

Bear in mind that to prevent splitting on the end of the nail you should make sure you are using a crystal file, rather than an emery board.

However, have you thought of actually having some form of false nail applied to give instant strength and protection to the end of your finger as well as glamour?

You could see if there was an OPI-approved salon in your area and then you would feel confident that you had an advanced trained technician. Another option would be to perform a treatment yourself at home.

To do this there needs to be a base nail there, even if it is in bad condition. Use the Red Carpet Manicure, which will apply a gel coat overlay on your natural nail. This will give reinforcement and hold the nail together, helping it to grow up. I hope that helps. Let me know how you get on.

Elemis 3 Piece Skin Nourishing Bath & Body Collection - 225130On Dry skin

Sylvia, as your dry skin is a side effect of a medical condition, if your doctor has recommended that you use a certain product on the body then you must follow that advice.

However, if you are looking for a beauty product for extremely dry, sensitive skin, your first point of call would definitely be natural foaming agent shower products and bath soaps.

A brilliant range for this is from Elemis, and their Milkwhey products. They have the pure Milk Bath, which, in extreme cases of sensitivity, is used as a bath soak and topically applied as a moisturiser, and they have a nourishing shower cream with natural foaming agents.

As a body moisturiser, I would start with the Elemis body lotion. Because of your sensitivity, use paraben free etc. and if your skin is very dry, use the Elemis Camellia oil underneath to supplement.

Hopefully your skin will become more manageable and from that point, another key product for the future would be the L'Occitane Shea Butter Body Creams, which are 25% shea butter concentration to really give relief to dry skin.

Australian Bodycare Foaming Skinwash Duo - 202477On an effective skincare routine

Cleanse and Polish is very good at removing makeup and will leave your skin feeling comfortable and balanced. However, I would advise introducing an antiseptic skin wash. Try the ABC Tea-Tree wash, which you can use easily in the shower in the morning and with a cleanse and polish at night. If you apply moisturiser morning and evening, this would help calm your oil glands down.

If you don’t think you will use a moisturiser because psychologically you thinks it will cause more spots, then use a gel such as the SBC Propolis gel, which has natural antiseptic healing properties.

It is important for your routine to be simple and to avoid excessive use of products, exfoliators or steaming as all of this will stimulate the oil glands. One or two products regularly applied morning and night should be sufficient.

Dark circles and uneven skin texture on Afro-Carribean skin

Carleen, you are describing the perfect skin condition to get potentially fantastic results from Alpha H. Your key products are going to be the Balancing Cleanser and Balancing Moisturiser, the Liquid Gold and the Micro-Cleanse to begin with.

Start with these products and you should begin to see results well within the 30 days. You can then add some other specific products, for example, peeling masks, into your regime in two to three months once you have seen that the range has given you results.

I will be back answering more of your beauty questions after my Beauty Fix show on 7th February on my Twitter page and QVC's Facebook page

Hi Alison, I am new to qvc but am thoroughly impressed!I am 34yrs old and after a long period of stress and associated illnesses I am left with a face that I feel I no longer recognise. Skin on cheeks is fine but elsewhere is prone to some inflamed spots but mainly pores on nose and chin areas are always congested.
My face seems to have aged overnight, fine lines/crepey everywhere with some ever deepening expression lines.
I feel my skin is in quite a fragile state. It has always been sensitive/reactive to many products so Ive tended to stick with very gentle appropriate skincare but they dont ever seem to really treat on an anti-aging level or give me clean pores :(
I have now developed persistent, very noticeable flaking on nose/chin area that is like a coating of dandruff. My whole face is tight and sore but oily at same time! The skin around my eyes is very tight and dry but I am still to find a product that does not irritate my sensitive eyes, even though I only pat a tiny amount on orbital bone area.
Ive tried various brands the last 2 – 3 years, Avene, Clinique, Gunilla of Sweden with limited success.
(I have been to doctor but of little help; previously Dianette contraceptive pill was only thing that helped (for the acne) but I do not want to be on this again.)
Would so appreciate your advice to help me feel and look like me again, many thanks Alison.xxx

    Hi Alison,
I use Sarah Chapman range which I love! Unfortunately I have just run out of the Eye Recovery, I do have some on advanced order from the Beauty pick of the month!
My eyes are looking awful after being without this product. In the mean time I have used Gatineau Melatogenine futur plus eye cream and and have tried the LP skin range. Both have not helped.
Can you reccomend an eye product to use until I can continue with Sarah Chapman.
Thanks for taking the time to read……look forward to your help!

    Hello
I still want to develop a light tan while protecting my skin.
Please can you confirm if I can effectvely use Gatineau tan accelerator underneath my SPF 50 while still protecting my skin from UVA/UVB rays?
Or, will the high SPF 50 prevent the development of the tan accelerator?
    Many thanks

    Dear Alison,
My mother is 50 years old and luckily wrinkles are not an issue but she has very uneven skin tone. She has dark patches on her face and its very dull and dry. It is also starting to get a little saggy but this is not a main concern. She is primarily really concerned with the very dark patches and dullness.
Please can you give advice on what she could use to help with this issue. Unfortunately budget is a consideration, but i do not mind spending a lot on an intensive treatment for first few months that will show visible results and then moving onto a more affortable maintainance routine for the long term.
I was thinking Liquid Gold and Gatineau Age Benfit 4 piece youth collection to start off but there are so many products to choose from , its really difficult to know which is the absolute best and most effective on discolouration. Please can you advice on the best few products to use.
