Firstly, a big thank you to all of you who entered the competition to win the bejewelled Butler & Wilson jewellery box. It was an overwhelming number of entries, which goes to show just how much you love Simon and his fabulous jewellery. No wonder the brand has been around for 45 years as marked by this stunning cake made by Jo who runs our prep kitchen at QVC.
She cleverly copied Simon's mum's brooch for the topper, and I can confirm that I saw Simon eating a piece of it! I took my piece home to share with my daughter Sophie. Also indulging in a piece was our model Ali.
She returned to do the Saturday night show with us looking amazing after giving birth to her second baby, Isaac, just five weeks ago. I think it really made Simon's 19th anniversary with us special and I hope you enjoyed all the shows ( and the easy-pays) too. I will announce the winner of the competition later in my blog.
Due to the number of posts I'm afraid I won't be doing replies this week but I have read every one. If there is a specific question or comment that needs an answer perhaps you would be kind enough to post it on this week's blog.
So, hot on the heels of the Butler & Wilson shows, I also had the pleasure of working with Ralph Rossini from Honora. I haven't worked with him for ages so imagine my surprise, and pleasure, when he presented me with these bracelets in my team's colours. I was really touched that he had remembered both my team, Crystal Palace, and the colour of their strip!
Talking of Palace, it's a bit of a blow to lose your manager just 36 hours before the start of the new Premier League season, especially when your first game is away to Arsenal!! I have no idea what is behind it, apparently he took training as normal yesterday, but in some ways it is better that the split has come now rather than when we are in a relegation battle. I remember writing on here last time we were looking for a manager that Malkie McKay might do a good job for us … maybe we will get him this time round!
On my blog last week I mentioned that I have finished writing my first novel. This week has been spent going through it with a fine tooth comb, checking that the story makes sense, before it goes to the copy editor on Wednesday. I am using the same lady who did 'One Hundred Lengths of the Pool' as I liked the light touch she gave it. We tracked her down via Linked In and she asked to see the synopsis and the first three chapters before she agreed to take it on.
I waited nervously for her feedback, as novel writing is a new experience for me, and was thrilled when she emailed on Monday to say she liked the story and the first chapter. I will keep you updated on here as to when it will be available if you are interested in reading it … I warn you now it is a bit of a tear jerker.
Last night we launched our 50-hour Autumn fashion event with the catwalk show. I just want to mention one of our stylists, Charlotte, who I thought did a fantastic job pulling all the looks together to reflect the four key trends for this season. Everything on air until midnight tomorrow is on some form of Easy Pay so make the most of it and treat yourself to a few new things to start your Autumn/Winter wardrobe.
Perhaps a new handbag? I have an hour of Tignanello at 5pm or there is the Lulu Guinness TSV launching at midnight tonight. Or maybe it's boots you are after? I have the re-launch of EMU tonight at 9pm – the 'ugly' boot styles have been streamlined a little for lightness and a snugger fit.
I'm off work this weekend but I will be seeing some of my work colleagues at Simon Wilson's BIG birthday bash tomorrow. I couldn't possibly divulge how old he is but this birthday has an 0 on the end and he is a few years older than me … I'll leave it there. He has invited my son and daughter to the party too, which will involve Wilfie coming back to ours for an overnight stay. I am wondering how Milo will take to that as he really has made himself at home finding the funniest places to fall asleep!
Sooooo, the moment you have all been waiting for. A huge congratulations to Leanne B who has won the Butler & Wilson jewellery box. I'll try and persuade Simon to donate another prize for a competition on here just before Christmas.
Have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to and see you next Thursday
Much love, Julia xx
