Workouts, writing and the travellers’ return

Pilates in the gymSometimes I wonder where my days off go and that is particularly the case this last week although, in fairness, there has been a lot going on. Last Saturday we set up all the equipment in the gym and I had my first workout … aeropilates of course!

How lovely to once again hear Marjolein's dulcet tones talking me through the exercises, something I haven't had in two years because I haven't had a TV/DVD in the same room as the machine.

PosterOn Sunday morning I did some writing while Chris drove to Ikea in Croydon, miles away from us now, to buy some new frames for the Athena posters of me that he had enlarged for my fiftieth birthday.

They are now gracing the walls of the gym as my inspiration to try and get into something resembling that shape … a bit of a long shot really as they were done thirty years ago!

I had another workout in the afternoon, followed by watching a bit of the Wimbledon final. What fantastic tennis and how gracious was Roger Federer in defeat?

Dan's ladsOn Monday Chris went to fetch Daniel from Luton airport after his football tour to Slovakia while I carried on writing -  I am at the crucial point of the story now so I am giving it a lot of time.

It was good to hear Dan so enthusiastic about how his boys acquitted themselves in the group stages of the tournament, winning all their games quite comfortably, but it was disappointing to go out to a Ukranian team in the knock-out stages. They all had a really good experience with highlights of one of their games and an interview with Dan (dubbed into Slovakian) featuring on the local TV channel. It's a good job he's done a bit of TV work before so it didn't phase him too much!

On Wednesday Chris was off to a different airport to collect Sophie and her friend from their Ibiza holiday. It was also the day we heard that the contracts had been exchanged on Daniel's flat. Exciting times for him as it will be the first time he has had his own place and it is much closer to his work at Crystal Palace.

I have mixed feelings. It is great that he has somewhere of his own but I will miss him being around. He will also be taking Wilfie so a double blow for me. At least I will still have Poppy and we may be having a new house guest … more on that next week!

Elemis Today's Special Value offerSo, in some respects, it was a relief to be back in at work yesterday for a touch of routine and normality. This afternoon I have Flora Mare Maritime skincare at 4pm, a range I haven't presented before, and more Kim & Co at outlet prices for Fashion at Five. I have more Kim & Co on Sunday along with Elemis and the fabulously fragrant TSV, after which I should be home in time to watch the World Cup Final.

Most people seem to think it will be a walkover for Germany after their thrashing of Brazil on Tuesday in the semi-final but Argentina are a very different prospect with the genius that is Messi in their ranks. I just hope it is a good game … I am a total neutral in this one!

I have a lovely week ahead at work, including launching the Lola Rose TSV at Tuesday midnight and Beauty Day on Thursday, and I may even finish my book!

Have a great weekend much love,

Julia xx

Hi Julia, I can imagine your mixed feelings about your Daniel and Wilfie, but as you say, he will be fine.
    Take care x

Hi Julia how are you? Sounds like Dan had a great time in Slovakia. You will now have first hand knowledge of the kids coming through at Palace will you not? I’m still at home at the moment too and think my own mother would have similar feelings to you. Is your new house guest a new pet? Have Palace made many signings during the summer. I have been away and lost touch a little. Last week was my first week back after my holiday and its always tough! I was glad when we got to Friday put it that way!
Hope you are well and good luck with the fitness. I really really need to get back into mine. Think my jean size is going up at this rate lol
Much love and hope you get your book finished xx

Hi julia, lovely to read you have got your gym up and running! And I love the poster, it’s just fab!! I am sure it’s wonderful to have that space to yourself and you can look forward to your time in there.
Well done for getting on so well with your book! I am looking forward to it coming out!
Yes it will be mixed emotions for you and dan I am sure with him moving out and Wilfy going.
Are you getting a kitten net week?? Lovely to see you looking so good in what you have worn recently on air. I am sure the temptation to buy clothes is always there!
Glad you will be home for the final tomorrow as you are so keen on football. I has withdrawal symptoms on Monday after the tennis!! I got so excited watching the final it was an amazing toe to toe game. Formula 1 was on and Lewis won so Martyn was very happy. So all in all a good day.
Take care and love and hugs xxx

    Hi Julia,
Glad you have your Gym finished, I expect it is nice to have all your equipment together. I shall definitely be looking out for your fitness video.
Love the poster of you, I guess that is from your dancing days.
Yes the Tennis final was brilliant, two lovely finalists.
Glad Daniel enjoyed the football tour. You are going to miss him when he moves out, and you will also miss Wilfie, hope they settle in okay. I expect they will both come to visit.
Looking forward to Lola Rose and Beauty day. Good luck with finishing the book.
    Take care.
    Love Jean XX

    Hi Julia,
It must be really nice to have your own gym. Somewhere quiet and peaceful where you can workout.I’m hopeing to start up swimming after many years of not going. I suffer from Degenerative Disc Disease and had to retire earlly from nursing. I have been quite good for quite a while now but last week it flared up again out of the blue. I have had acupuncture and physio this past week. I think I need to do more to prevent these flare- ups. As the body is supported by the water I think I’ll look into what aqua aerobic classes my local pool hold.
Well I’ve actually got a straight floor now after the carpenter replaced the joists in my front room. We’re waiting for the fella to sort out the damp proofing. The carpenter has to come back to replace the skirting boards and the job should be finnished!! It’s amazing to see how much the floor had dropped by. My curtains are “puddling” now whereas before they were just touching the skirting board. It will be nice to get back to normal.
I definately deserve a break after all that!
Well it’s past my bed time again so I’m off.
    Take care,best wishes-Tina (S.Wales.)

Please Julia stop labelling yourself “short” as I and many others would consider yourself average,I am 5ft.0inch so an extra 4 inches is quite a lot.

    Hi Julia,
It sounds like you’ve had a busy time (as usual!) but glad to hear you’ve had time to yourself in your lovely new gym – you are a very focused person and I admire that. How sweet of Chris to do a long car journey to get frames for your lovely Athena prints. Having heard so many great things about him, why would I be surprised?!
Understandably it will be a real wrench when Daniel moves out – it’s good to hear that his flat is in a good location for his job. It’s great to see someone really enjoying their career – I wish I’d been like that in my 20s! It’s taken me till my 40s to work out what I really want to do (youth work and children’s playschemes).
I am really looking forward to reading your new book – don’t let that pressurise you to rush though!
Last but not least, Wilfie has been given a fab start in life by you and will be good company for Daniel when he finishes his long shifts. I used to have two cats when I lived on my own and nothing beats that welcome at the door!
All the very best and I look forward to hearing about your new houseguest – I’m intrigued!!

    Hi Steven
Good to hear from you and hope you had an enjoyable holiday? Did you watch the video of Daniel’s lads? Some really good movement and great finishing – the lad scoring all the goals won ‘best player’ in the tournament. Dan is doing the 2nd part of his A licence this week so will be one of only a few thousand who hold this qualification in this country. Palace have a few offers in for players so fingers crossed as we let quite a few go.
I’ve already been making great use of the gym – glad I paid extra money for air conditioning in this warm weather! Hopefully I’ll be dropping a dress size over the next month.
Bit of a strange week so my writing has been on hold but very close to finishing now … Not sure it would be your kind of read but your mum might like it!

    Hi Diane
Just replied to you on last week’s blog as well … sorry for the lateness had a bit of a torrid week!
An artist called Sid Brak did two posters of me for Athena but funnily enough not while I was a dancer. I had already moved into teaching fitness when I sat for him. Even if I lose a few pounds it won’t erase the wrinkles so I won’t look quite the same.
Did you watch the World Cup final? I think it was a bit disappointing and somewhat cagey – particularly disappointed with Messi’s performance! Well done Lewis …. Chris is a big Formula 1 fan too.
No we are not getting a new kitten. There was a last minute hitch with the flat Sophie was moving into so she is back at home temporarily with her cat Milo. There is furniture everywhere as we still have all Daniel’s stuff too! Wilfie and Milo are brothers so they get on fine and Poppy is being remarkably good – not running and hiding as I would have expected which is good.
Not much time for writing with the unexpected upheaval but the week is not done yet!

    Hi Jean
Hope you’ve had a nap this afternoon so you can stay up for the launch of the Lola Rose TSV …. maybe I should have one too?
The poster is post dancing days … I taught fitness throughout the 1980’s so I guess maybe I’m sufficiently experienced to bring out a fitness DVD – got to get back in shape myself first!
I’m sure Daniel and Wilfie will visit when time permits … Or we can always visit them as there is a very nice gastro pub at the end of his road.
No writing so far this week (I’ll explain on this week’s blog) but maybe tomorrow.
Hope you like the Lola TSV

    Hi Tina
Glad to hear your floor is all finished.
Swimming is fantastic exercise but just be a bit careful swimming on your front, particularly if you swim with your head out of the water, as it can cause strain on your back …. check with your physio for the best advice of course. Do you do backstroke? That would probably support your back better.

    Hi Irene
I am short in comparison to our models although compared to my sister at 5ft and my mum at 5ft 1 inch I’m a veritable giant. Always remember good things come in small packages!

    Hello Beth
I think Daniel is starting to get quite excited about the move now. He is away this week doing the 2nd part of his football coaching A licence but before he went he asked me to order him some Cook’s Essentials saucepans because I use them at home and he thinks they are great. He has always been focused on his desire to coach football even when others were trying to tempt him away with bigger pay checks. The saying is, ‘if you enjoy your job you will never work a day in your life’. Glad you have now discovered what makes you fulfilled workwise.
The new (and temporary) house guests are Sophie and her cat Milo, Wilfie’s brother, who she also rescued as a kitten. She decided not to move into the new flat, 3 sharing changes the dynamic somewhat, so she is going to save for a deposit to buy her own place. Consequently I haven’t done any writing so far this week as I’ve been busy moving furniture and settling her in.
I can only write when in the right frame of mind and I guess another week won’t make much difference.
    Speak soon

    Hi Julia
Yeah I have been busy of late and not had much time to even read some of the blogs never mind reply! My holiday was great thanks. I’m impressed you remembered. The first week weather wise wasn’t great when we were there but the 2nd was better. Its not as cheap as it once was across in Bulgaria. I think it’s getting more popular which also results in prices going up obviously. I’ve been twice now and not sure I would go back to be honest.
No surprises in the World Cup for England really was there although it was maybe worse than people had feared. I missed the media backlash when I was away.
Not too long before the first game of the season. I’ve had a stroke of good fortune already with my season ticket at Ibrox. My cousin is getting married on the 9th August which would have meant I would have missed the opening game at Ibrox against Hearts, but thankfully Sky have stepped in and are showing the game live so it is now on the Sunday!! We play Hearts and Hibs in the first few weeks of the season so I think this season is going to be more interesting and certainly a lot tougher for us. I still think we’ll win it but it’ll be tight. That was a marathon one!
I’ll tell My Mum and my aunties Julia about your book. Good luck with it
    Take care xxx
