I had the strangest dream last night, which I can only imagine was related to the marvellous Alan Bennet film I watched “The Lady in the Van” starring Maggie Smith, who was as always, outstanding. If you’ve not seen it, I won’t spoil it for you by giving away the story, except to say that a piano plays a significant part in it! My dreams were filled with incredibly sharp memories of being taught to play the piano when I was seven years old. My teacher – Mr. Farrow – had the patience of a saint, as I never really got the hang of reading music, so I would play by ear – remembering the melody and then finding the keys!
Extraordinary how 48 years on, I can hear those melodies in my head, and yet I struggle to remember what I have walked into a room for these days! : ) Something I won’t forget though is to tell you how you can enter the competition set out below. I have a mighty prize with nearly £400 worth of beauty products for you to win!! Exciting!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments this last week or so, and for keeping me – and each other – in touch with all that’s kept you so busy. I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures of Honey – I have a few more for you this week. It’s so easy nowadays to record those special moments what with our mobile phones having such excellent cameras in them, and in addition to my phone, I am now the very proud owner of an Apple Watch!
Lucy, Sam and Jack, who were all with me on Mother’s Day, clubbed together for my birthday and spoilt me with this incredible piece of technology. It not only allows me to read and send messages, take photographs, answer phone calls, and monitor the number of steps I walk each day, but it links in with all my other Apple devices too! I feel very much like a member of the Tracey family in Thunderbirds, talking to my wrist when the phone rings, but it’s great fun! : ) I don’t usually open my presents early, but it’s rare to have all the children together at one time!
To make it even more special, Honey and Simon and his two boys George and Henry joined us – my first official Mother’s Day as a grandparent! Lucy, Sam and Jack had bought a fabulous food hamper and they set up a running buffet for lunch so I didn’t have to lift a finger! The cards from the children were particularly thoughtful with beautiful words, and I even had a special card and present from Honey that made me quite emotional – but in a good way : )
I felt truly blessed and very loved. Lucy also had this beautiful bear made for me. He is created out of fabric taken from many of the baby clothes Colin and I bought for Honey, and includes pieces from her very first baby gro, the dress she wore to our wedding, and even one we brought back from our honeymoon for her.
Such a clever and thoughtful idea eh? My Sam’s birthday was on 10th March, and so we gave him all his presents on the Sunday too, and he was particularly pleased with a pizza cutter I’d found for him, in the shape of a bicycle!
Because the children had planned the Sunday way in advance, Colin and I drove down to see my mum the day before. We took her and Joe out for supper in a lovely pub, and motored our way through a mountain of food including pork belly, roast duck, lambs liver (my choice) and sausage and mash!
It was a really enjoyable evening, and nice to have the chance to catch up. In fact the whole month has been very much family orientated with my niece Emily’s son James being christened yesterday morning (pictured above). The celebrations took place in the same church Em and Paul had married in four years before, and saw three generations of our respective families getting together for the occasion. I thought you might enjoy these photos – I particularly loved the one of mum and Honey.
This stunning spring like weather has meant that I was able to mow the lawn for the first time this year, and it’s made such a difference. Richard Jackson’s Lawn Magic has done the trick, and my pots are also full of blooms thanks to his Flower Power. Let’s hope we get a good summer so we can all enjoy a bit of sunshine and outdoor living!
I think that’s pretty much all my news for this week, and so onto business! It’s been a while since I set a competition, but thanks to LAB Pro and NIOD, I have an incredible prize worth nearly £400! The LAB Pro Lift + was launched on QVC just the other week, and is a 4-in-1 skincare system designed to cleanse, moisturise and give the skin a more youthful appearance. Created by Oxford University graduates who are also sisters – Charlotte and Lauren – this very clever system will give you a salon style facial that you can do at home!
Although it comes with a customised cleanser and serum, you may prefer to try something from the NIOD skincare range? NIOD was launched less than a year ago, but has received extraordinary acclaim not just from the beauty press, but from you as well! It’s all about improving the health of your skin to help you to age better. This collection includes the Copper Amino Isolate Serum, Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex, Photography Fluid, Low Viscosity Cleaning Ester and the Bio Lipid Lip Concentrate, and if you’re not using this range already, check out the reviews on QVCUK – you’ll definitely want to give it a go!
All you have to do is decide which is the correct answer to this simple question:

I’ll be with you on Thursday at 9pm for our usual Diamonique rendezvous and my pick this week is this fabulous pair of earrings.
