Big Day Out – Gill, Patrick, Marie-Francoise, me and MDD
Plus Red Carpet Manicure Ready is here at last – one stage LED gel varnish! And lots of juicer video tips, plus sneaky peeks of Tignanello, Marla Wynne and Alpha H offers!
What a fantastic day we had in Milton Keynes on Wednesday this week! My lovely pals Gill Gauntlett (aka Mrs Christmas), Patrick Hoy – Quacker Factory, and Marie-Francoise Wolff – Kipling, were all keep to accompany me up to see my charity, Medical Detection Dogs (I’m an ambassador for them since August) and see the demos at their HQ, before lunch, Airkix and coffee!
Little trainee assistance dog Mac is only 9 weeks old, and a bundle of love. He adored being petted, by me, then Gill (top pic), then MF and then Patrick! Mac was named by a fundraiser called Gordon Moore who reached the required £2000. It’ll be my turn in the queue soon, I’ve raised approx £5500 now. They just don’t have enough puppies coming through the system – there’s a three year waiting list, which is a real shame when you hear about how they save lives and save emergency hospital visits due to early alerts for all kinds of situations including diabetes type 1, Addisons disease, POTs and even Parkinsons.
The team told my new ‘ambassadets’ about how the go ahead to do more studies means a huge need for more dogs to train, more staff and more industrial freezer space to store urine samples at minus 80 degrees! And Clare was on hand with her dog Magic to explain more about how he helps her with her type 1 diabetes, by alerting her when her blood sugar goes too high or low – he did it whilst we were there in fact. Little Mac found a friend in Magic too!
I felt very proud as my three mates then watched the awesome demos of the dogs doing the sniffing and they felt, as I did, truly inspired to help out. Gill’s determined to get them a freezer or two!
The team posed for a group pic with Dr Clare Guest, the founder and CEO, the scientist spearheading this amazing work.
We all came away with goodies including some fab Christmas cards –I bought ten packs! Then it was off for lunch then part two of our Big Day Out!
Then it was off to do indoor skydiving once again – my third time – loved it as usual! Marie Francoise was really good! And Patrick ‘flew’ too – it’s an amazing feeling. I managed to lift myself up and down too, by bending my hips to the floor and feet upwards (down) or straightening out my body a bit (up) – I must go again, it feels like I’m ‘on the cusp’ so to speak, of ‘getting it’! Gill watched ‘cos she’s hurt her shoulder, and took these of me, Patrick and Marie Francoise – must go again! Then we ended the day with a coffee – two of them had the most ginormous marshmallows I’ve ever seen! A good day truly had by all.
Question for you
Medical Detector Dogs and I are planning on some sort of social media campaign appeal in the New Year – and of course a ‘virtual pub quiz’ via Facebook or email at the end of October! Please leave a comment below if you’re in the mood to join in! And if you’d like to help even by having a collection tin at work, or asking someone to come do a talk where you are, go here.
Red Carpet Manicure Ready is here!
Many of you will know I’m a devotee of Red Carpet Manicure, with or without a layer of ordinary varnish over the top. WELL, this Tuesday 6th at 9am, 1pm and 4pm, Linda Bignell aka my sister, is back with the brand new RCM system which goes on like a normal varnish, dried under the LED light, and is INSTANTLY rock hard. How about that? This fab colour is included in a set, but you can buy colours alone. Do join her.
Jason the Juicemaster says… Of course on Sunday it was the long-awaited airing of Jason Vale’s Retro cold-press slow Juicer (with book and DVD – still on QVC.) I love doing juicing now, I must admit, it’s the best thing for my appetite most mornings. For those who missed it, it’s the masticating one which will do wheatgrass, will also cope with ice, nuts (creating almond milk and paste), make banana sorbets out of frozen fruits and take most fruits whole and with skin on. We had a fun show. Go here to watch the whole 18 minute airing on QVC on Sunday of Retro Juicer with Jason Vale and me.
The powerful nutrition within the juice blends, I found, actually made my body do a happy dance, which meant satiety – something that many of us strive for. I do especially, with Freedom Eating (see below.) I use mostly vegetables, and as Jason says, he will also opt to eat fruit but juice with vegetables mainly, adding a bit of fruit for palatability (is that a word?) So I will continue to choose to juice and I really like his juicer, I find it ever so easy to use and clean afterwards.
So where will you begin , if you’ve bought one, or if you’ve got his 5:2 book and/or if you are going to replace your breakfast or whatever with juice daily for five days as part of his annual Juice Challenge 5th-9th October? Join in next week –
Also do go check on YouTube for some brilliant suggestions on what to do with all the pulp if you don’t like the idea of wasting it – the pulp is really dry and to avoid waste you can add it to muffins, smoothies, sauces soups and stews, and even make a face pack out of it. Like this one – how to make veggie burgers from juice pulp
Finally there’s the most awesome film he’s made that’s over an hour long, which anyone who hasn’t yet thought about juicing to help their health should watch. For free, on YouTube, or it comes with the matching book with QVC’s offer. Go here to watch ‘SuperJuice Me’ on youtube – four weeks, eight people and a whole load of dramatic changes.

Earlier this week I went to a hippy-themed ‘do’ with mum and sis at the weekend, mum’s new partner organised it and his son was playing in a 60s/70s style band. I even danced! Lots of fun – I wore an Antthony tunic and furry gilet! Lol.
Till the Fat Lady Slims Update

Makes me very proud.
Doggy Love …. or doggy tolerance, in Daisy’s case. Little Luna and Baloo and also maggie next door, had a sleepover. Fun but exhausting! Glad mine aren’t puppies any more. Wait a minute… I’m babysitting the nieces on two of my days off this week… oh dear. More news next week… oops!
Webchats this week – Back to You update
Richard from Skechers was the last of my September webchats at 7pm on Qpage – go here to read it and find out more about what he’s bringing for this weekend’s Fashion Day.
Then we also welcomed lovely Nikki from Lola Rose jewellery and Bruce from Bodyblade but their chats were shortened due to Facebook suddenly crashing for a couple of hours! Weird! Read their Q&A here.
Next week – it’s going to be Darryn from relatively new brand Stop and Wow and also my lovely telly-hubby Lee Hohbein who will fill you in on all the hi-tech answers you need! 8pm Monday on Back to You QVC group. Join us here.
Maggie Helps Out Did a big prune and de-weed in the garden this week, in the lovely sunshine. But the Dog Next Door, Maggie the crazy spaniel, decides that this is what my garden needs – check out the noise at the end! Determined or what!
Book of the Week – Mime Order by Samantha Shannon A fab futuristic dystopia book that’s the follow up to one of my fave books ‘Bone Season’. If you haven’t read that yet, do read it first – it’s a dark thriller with lots of cleverly crafted scenes and ‘otherworld’ drama in a future London where the supernatural is illegal. Mime Order takes heroine Paige through the next stage – really well. Go here to read more on my Read it Write it Sell it blog.
Tom-tato Turn Out. Remember at the start of the summer I mentioned that I’d bought a cross between the two? Well this was the yield, plus lots more toms. Sadly the ‘tato’ part of it was a big let down! This was it! And considering they are £10 a pop, these plants, I’ll stick with either or next time!
The Blood moon What a lovely shot this is! Appeared online after this week’s 3am spectacle – you can’t actually see the blimmin moon from where my house is when it’s low in the sky – too many trees and we’re in a dip… Boo…
Lee n the Powder Puff Gang Funny! Here’s said I.T. expert Mr H with his cohorts playing make-up in the dressing rooms before the show – if you ever wondered what our guests get up to behind the scenes let me know! Lol!
Blooper It’s an OPI funny, no less! And guest Siobhain has found a clever way to get more sales…
Facebook Funny hehe – haha – that is all…
