Will Gowing visits the Poppy Factory

Will GowingEach year QVC employees get to nominate and then vote for which charities they want to support and this year one of the organisations chosen was The Poppy Factory, where Remembrance poppies are created, and wounded, injured and sick ex-service men and women are given the support they need to get back to work.

QVC staff have supported this charity by undertaking activities such as the Tough Mudder challenge, a 12 mile obstacle course designed by the Special Forces. Eve Ostrovskaya, who works in QVC's Human Resources department, even raised money by completing a Triathlon!

I went along to The Poppy Factory to meet up with the team and find out more about this brilliant organisation…

My grandfather worked at the poppy factory when I was a little girl (around 45 years ago). He also lived on the poppy factory estate. He met Princess Alexandra and when it was announced the Queen was to visit all the flat numbers were put into a hat and my grandfathers was drawn. They painted inside the flat the day before the visit and Prince Phillip leaned against one of the larder doors and it was still tacky so had green paint on his suit oops! Apparently it broke the ice and a good cup of tea was shared by all. I could not attend this visit as I had contracted Measles! typical. Just thought I would share this historic event in my family. RIP to all passed.
