What’s in the box?

17

I have been away from home for a few days and completely forgot to tell the other half that I had a sample of this Sunday’s Bernini water fountain Today’s Special Value arriving. Imagine his face when this huge box turned up on our doorstep at 9.15 on Wednesday evening! I had a text from Sophie simply saying: ‘What’s in the box?’ I’ll show you what is in the box later in my blog.

Sophie may have been forgiven for thinking it was something for her new flat! Yes… finally! I mentioned last week that I had two exciting pieces of news to share, well one of them is that Sophie completed the purchase on her first home.

She had only exchanged last week, so I didn’t want to jinx it by mentioning it on here until everything was signed, sealed and delivered; particularly after losing out on the previous flat she had an accepted offer on because it transpired the lease had not been extended as stated. In fairness, the vendor did get a new lease, but then wanted Sophie to pay an extra £10,000 towards the cost of it – she declined.

To be honest, I think the flat she has bought today is a perfect starter home and probably better than the other one, so it all turned out right in the end.

Last Sunday we went shopping with her to buy a couple of essentials – a sofa and a bed! Well, I say a bed, but we have actually bought an ottoman base and she is going to have tomorrow’s Magniflex Today’s Special Value mattress. We already sleep on Magniflex so she was able to give it a try! It’s also ideal as it comes rolled up and her new home is a top floor flat.

Magniflex Today's Special Value

I bought her the Lock & Lock Today’s Special Value on Tuesday (in fact, I bought two sets, one for us as well – you can never have too many Lock & Locks) and there is something else on the way – I’ll show you a picture on here next week. It’s all very exciting for her and I hope she and Milo (the cat) will be very happy there. Actually I’m pretty sure Milo will miss us more than she will – or at least miss Wilfie!

Speaking of Wilfie – Chris sent me this picture of him sitting on my old Dell computer, do you think he was missing me?

Wilfie

So, if you don’t mind I’m going to save my other bit of news for next week’s blog.

Let’s move on to Focus on Fashion. Now, normally I draw your attention to clothes but this week I am going rogue by highlighting the next Butler and Wilson Jewellery shows coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. If you’ve been watching QVC a while, you will know that Simon Wilson and I love working together and I’m really looking forward to our two-hour show on Wednesday at 5pm. I’ve picked a few pieces out that I like – hope you do too. Also, look out for Lulu Guinness at 5pm on Thursday as part of our Celebrate Britain event.

Soooo … what was in the box? Well, here it is:

Bernini Today's Special Value

Chris put it together for me on Thursday, although that photo was taken prior to adding the water.

I’m really looking forward to some warm summer evenings to sit outside and enjoy the gentle splish-splash of the water, burning a Yankee Candle and sipping a glass of red wine. It will feature during the three-hour Gardening show I have with Richard Jackson on Sunday afternoon – I can’t wait, I love my garden.

By the way, the little white cherry bush in flower behind the fountain was a birthday present from my mum last year. It’s just seven weeks until I turn sixty – where is this year going?

So here are my hours for this week:

Saturday

3pm Bose

5pm Magniflex

6pm IT cosmetics – very excited!

Sunday

3pm – 6pm Richard Jackson’s garden

Monday

2pm Nails Inc

4pm Vitaform

Wednesday

5pm – 7pm Butler & Wilson

Thursday

5pm Lulu Guinness

6pm Eat Taste Love

I hope you can join me for some or all of them

Much love

Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
Glad Sophie has found herself a flat. A new sofa, bed and lock and lock thanks to dear Mum. I am sure she will be happy and Milo. The Magniflex is so comfortable, that is what we sleep on.

Dear Wilfie asleep on your Computer, I guess he is missing you.

The water feature looks good in your garden, you will enjoy that along with your Wine.

Looking forward to the gardening, I love Richard Jacksons shows.

Oh Butler and Wilson and Lulu Guinness, looking forward to that.

I can’t believe you are coming up sixty, you certainly don’t look it.

    Take Care,
    Love Jean xx

      Hi Jean
Did you manage to catch my show with Richard Jackson? I really enjoyed it despite it not being as warm as I would have hoped.
Also Simon yesterday – thoroughly enjoyable show! I do love my job most of the time.
Wilfie does miss me when I’m away but fortunately he seems to have a short memory.
Thanks for the compliment re my age. Mist of the time I don’t feel it but occasionally…!

Congrats to Sophie. Very exciting to have your very own first flat. Bet you will miss her and Milo though! It has been awhile since you have been empty nesters, hasn’t it? Did you go to foreign climes when you were away or back to Cardiff? And…..oh no! another week of suspense for your other bit of news!

      Hi Eileen
She hasn’t moved in yet – probably in another three weeks when her sofa arrives. Fortunately it’s in good condition just need to Vax the carpets and maybe paint a few walls.
We’ve never been empty nesters since we moved into this house so it will be new for us.
Check the blog tomorrow for my other news – no, we’re not getting married! Maybe next year.

Hi Julia, just a quick question the top you wearing on today’s Bose show was it from QVC? If it is which make please. It is very pretty. It really suited you.
    Thanks
    Enjoy your weekend.

      Hi Lekha
The top is one of my favourites by Butler and Wilson but unfortunately it’s no longer available on QVC
      Sorry

    Hi Julia,
Good news about Sophie getting her new flat. Must be so exciting for her to finally get a home of her own.
I liked the water feature. We could do with a new one as ours is no longer working. I brought some Wallflowers the other day. I love the smell . We had them when I was a little girl and just smelling them takes me back.
Looking forward to seeing Butler and Wilson next week. I particularly like the brooches. I always get comments when I wear his pieces.
Our favourite place, Porthcawl, was on the main news last week. It showed the Esplanade where the council have put new benches facing the wrong way. Instead of facing the sea, they put them facing the road and the traffic! The camera man was right behind us when we were sitting on the front.
So we very nearly got on the ITN News!
Glad to see you back on air. Hope you are keeping well.
    All the best, Tina S.

      Hi Tina
That did make me laugh – the new benches facing the road rather than the view!!!
Yes, very exciting for Sophie. It has been so difficult with investment buyers having the money to up their offers over first time buyers – still she’s got it now.
Your love of wallflowers is similar to mine with sweet peas – they will forever remind me of my dad.

Hi Julia have been meaning to write to you for some time regarding javea. We have been going there for about 11 years for our holiday, where we hire a villa, when people ask where we are going on holiday and say javea in Spain they reply where is that, a wonderful place many don’t know about. Keep up the good work on qvc , also life begins not 40 but 60.
    Regards jane

      Hi Jane
We should keep quiet about Javea or everyone will want to go!!! Gorgeous isn’t it!
I’m sort of looking forward to my sixties, maybe I’ll take my foot off the pedal a bit!

Hi Julia – if I am not at work, then I will be watching. I really enjoyed the 3 hours of gardening today (Sunday) and am thrilled that Simon will be back on Wednesday for Butler & Wilson. xx

    Hi Julia
We have the small Bernini Lion Head fountain, it’s gorgeous. We’re going to fix it to the wall on our balcony. I know, get me, a balcony!! Don’t get the notion that we live in a mansion, just a 3 bed detached dormer style house that happens to have a kitchen extension with a balcony style roof off our bedroom. It is nice in summer and we had it resurfaced with a nice bright resin last year. We’ve got a couple of those nice reclining sun loungers out there (from QVC of course!). So it will add to the ambience when we get the fountain out there. Just need plenty of sunshine now!
Congratulations to Sophie on her first home of her own. May it bring her lots of love, luck and happiness.
You’re a big tease with your “news”.Very intriguing! I have some news of my own but will send you a pm on Facebook. Two can play at that game!!

Hi Marion (or should I call you Lady Marion of the mansion?)
A thought just occurred to me – you had better remember to turn the water off at night if it’s outside your bedroom or you’ll be constantly wanting to run to the loo!!
Sophie hasn’t moved in yet – the bed base is being delivered on Monday – need to Vax the carpets first and have been up to my eyes with the last couple of chapters of book 3 – almost there! She has already been buying Nick Nacks with ‘smile’ & ‘be happy’ on them, before she’s bought things like saucepans!
Er, who’s the tease? I haven’t had a DM from you yet! All will be revealed tomorrow
      Love

Hi Julia, I got the Bernini tsv fountain too. I love it and have a pic of it on my fb page if you want a look. Bought it to take to Spain for our new life out there later this year. Great news about Sophie’s flat. I bet you will miss her! ;-) xx
