Doris Dalton is returning to QVC and we are really thrilled to be doing shows with her again. Her products had many top sellers but to be honest and straight with you, she had a legal problem with the European registration of her brand name.
This meant that even though her shows were fantastically popular with lots of sell-outs and in some instances, we could not get enough stock to supply the growing demand, we were unable to stock her line for a while.
The good news is that now the same fantastic products are underneath the brand name Doll 10.
Watch out for, if you haven’t already discovered it, her amazing textures on quick coverage complexion products like the double-ended concealer and the all-in-one foundation. These are a must for a modern make-up finish that is quick and easy to apply.
She is also famous for her brow products and is brilliant at her on-air demonstrations. Many of Doris’s formulas have very easy application techniques because the artistry has been taken care of in the texture and colour tone of the product she has made, with the special application instruction or brush that she supplies with it. For example her Airless Cream Eyeliner has a self-locking top so that it doesn’t dry up and comes with a multi-angled brush which makes precision work achievable even for the beginner.
With summer coming along watch out for here Golden Pearl Bronzing Powders which can be used all over the body and are quicker than a self-tan. Doris is best at developing all the natural tones and base make-up that we require on a day to day basis. You wont see any high-end, quirky fashion colours but you will see products that you want to use every single day.
Many people will ask me what is so special or different about bareMinerals – especially as today nearly every brand is claiming to be either mineral or mineral-based as many have jumped on the band wagon.
It is important to remember that this bandwagon was started nearly three or four decades ago by bareMinerals in a small boutique in San Francisco, where Leslie the founder, would hand blend minerals, spooning them out of containers into paper bags to customise colour. Imagine the way we used to or still do buy sherbet from an old-fashioned sweet shop.
bareMinerals really comes into its own with problematic skin such as spotty skin, acne, sensitive skin or acne rosacea because during these skin eruptions of various types you lose skin confidence and you want to cover with make-up.
However as you have probably discovered, make-up seems to make your skin sweat or break out more and on the days or times when you go without make-up your skin is actually calmer or less spotty. Here is the clever side of the bareMinerals foundations; the ingredients they use are pure minerals which I used to mix up, as did many leading therapists into hand-prepared clay masks and topical applications to actually calm down skin, reduce oiliness, reduce redness etc.
I would see a difference in a 20 minute mask application. bareMinerals use the same natural mineral ingredients but incredibly finely blended into different textures of foundation so you can cover up and be kind to your skin.
You just need to choose between the matt loose version which is best for very oily skin and also has some better shades, with cooler tones for blue-based African Caribbean skin; and the original loose foundation which has a slight luminous finish best for normal to dry skin; or the new Ready compact which has a flawless full coverage finish best for quick application or a fashion full make-up.
Over the years, as a brand, they have surprised me by having so many areas of excellence. Most of the time a company will have one or two hero products and then the rest is ok but if you shopped with another brand it would be better.
Not so with bareMinerals. Their Flawless Definition Mascara is incredible with a very fine brush, their Moxie lip glosses are glamorous and high fashion with plumping properties and brilliantly long wearing. Their Colour Correcting Yellow Primer is a must own for high colour or red-tone skin or to give a more flawless finish to any brand foundation.
They have taken their specialist loose pigments and also made them into a ‘Ready’ formula that acts like a compact so it’s easy for travel in a make-up bag. They have not lost any of their beauty or vibrancy of colour while still having a beautiful, multi-dimensional, fine finish.
Other must-haves would have to be listed as their Mineral Veils. These are a finer version of a finishing powder and they will even work on top of other brands of liquid make-ups or BB creams. A professional tip here is, I love to use them to prep the eye area after eye creams and before mascara, liner and shadow because it actually helps waterproof and elongate the wear or the precision look of your eye application.
I could go on to next list the radiances as a must own for special effects but I must stop! The last recommendation that I could give is that bareMinerals application may take a couple of practices as their technique is sometimes different but it is well worth a go and within the 30 day money back guarantee, you should become an expert and be seeing the skin as well as the fashion benefits.
Another great brand to look out for is Daniel Sandler. This professional make-up range returns with a great collection, among them a fabulous bronzing powder with a velvety, shimmer-free finish perfect for that sun-kissed glow.
If all that wasn't enough, Ojon are back this month with a Today's Special Value offer – it's a three-piece haircare collection, but you'll have to wait a little longer to find out more!
