What Charlie did next!

13

Yes, cheeky Charlie Brook has been up to mischief again! Last week he and I were in the make-up room whilst I tried to get a good pic of the fabulous posh new handbag – next Thursday’s Tignanello offer – and he got his finger in the pic deliberately! He felt a bit guilty but… it won’t stop him next time I’m sure! Lol. So I posted this pic of him in his makeup chair! Lol.

Anyway do join me at midnight on Thursday 23rd March for the most stunning Today’s Special Value bag – it’s so lightweight and has a pretty colour-block side section – lots of colour choices too. Looking forward to it!

More on what’s coming up at QVC below.

Am Dram Night

Had a super evening watching the Belstone Players put on a Supper Theatre night too with my pal Alix. There were two, one-act plays either side of a supper, cooked by loads of different people in the village. How very ‘community’ of them all! And it was super – especially the second half – very laugh out loud funny! Go along if you can, it’s on till Saturday 18th in Belstone nr Okehampton.

MDD on the BBC! How proud was I this week to see the charity I raise funds for, Medical Detection dogs, featured in an extended report on the Victoria Derbyshire show – here’s the link on iplayer and I hope you can see the part when Rob is being interviewed? In the background you can see the two £5000 industrial freezers which were bought from our fundraising! They are needed to store the urine samples in for the cancer detection research, and keep the samples at minus 80!

SNIPPETS

Sunny Devon Days One of the warmest days of the year so far saw me sitting in this little sun trap in the back garden of Retreats for You – bliss! It really was. Just need to relax a bit more though – it’s been very hectic of late! Lots of the weeks are getting booked up – we are full for the week after Easter already, for instance – and there’s not even been much advertising so far! Had three lovely authors there this week – two doing PhDs – and I did some baking. I did singe the flapjacks a bit, but hey ho! I’m getting there and that’s what’s important! Lol. More about Retreats for You is here.

Had a lovely time helping an author learn some interviewing tricks Was happy to help lovely Gail Aldwin feel more comfortable in front of the microphone – it’s a new thing I’m going to offer – well, it’s my speciality really isn’t it! Happy to help a fellow author, and what a lovely write-up she gave us afterwards. Thanks Gail.

Audience Tickets – Gordon Ramsay Seems Lost in TV has yet more super opportunities to join in with TV shows in the making – go here to see more about being there watching this one –(others avail if this one is full.)

Tommy’s birthday Card Treat If you’ve spotted the hunky ‘Handy’man Tommy from ‘Handy’ tools, you may have seen the fab range they offer – check him out on the videos here. WELL anyway – I met him in the corridor and he said ‘I’ve been wanting to meet you!’ I thought , oh yeh? He said ‘my mum’s got a video of you reading my birthday card out on SSVC TV when I was six!’ Lol! (forces’ TV on all the BFPO bases around the world) How funny. Nice guy and great products.

Rich the chef Then blow me down, if the same thing didn’t happen with another former forces’ kid, local chef Richard, who popped by for a coffee and had a nose around my tomato and pesto pasta sauce I was making for the guests for lunch. He also thought he knew me from before and eventually worked out it was from when he too was based on a BFPO base – in Germany – when he was a kid. Coincidences or what!

Holding Court Haha! Thanks to another neighbour, Gary, who makes these fabulous house signs – he saw we didn’t have one down at Retreats For You in the village square, so now we do! Lovely eh?

Census Inspiration And the naming the rooms saga continues with more or less a decision – to name them after the previous owners/residents – as featured on the old censuses! There’s one called Martin, one used to be the Jones family, and one is called Dufty – an old Devon name, as is Slee. I just love that these ‘licensed victuallers’ from what was the White Hart Inn were listed on the censuses from over a hundred years ago in my new home town. Puts us directly in touch with the past, right? And I can also add a plaque or a frame with a copy of the census and an explanation of the person – as much as I can tell anyway. Here’s the latest live VLOG on my Facebook page discussing it all (official page is here – you can view it even if you’re not on Facebook, but if you are, do ‘like’ the page to be alerted when I post in the future).

Amazing Taste – it’s nuts! My bro Glenn travels internationally and went to Mozambique. And he brought back the most amazing tasting nuts I’ve ever had in my whole life. They are what cashews and peanuts are supposed to taste like – an explosion in your mouth! In Mozambique, many people, usually women and children, make a meagre living roasting these and selling them eg by the side of the road – they’re sold in three different sizes of measuring cup and then put in a … zip lock bag! Lol! These came all the way from the fish market at Maputo on the waterfront – you can taste the freshness in every one. I’m spoiled for taste now! Lol.

Watch  – Kong: Skull Island – went to the cinema and it reminded me that years ago in a Transformers movie, token girl, Rosie Huntingdon Whitely stayed almost pristine the whole way through in high heels and pouty lip gloss and a white jumpsuit in an obviously created-for-male-viewers ploy. Well in Kong, Tom Hiddleston supplies the equivalent for us girls – for the first half anyway. Perfectly coiffed and with a calm disposition and dulcet English tones, muscles rippling appropriately. *sigh*. OK so about the actual movie – some great performances, excellent effects, and quirky twists on the usual Hollywood tent-pole action adventure romp. Worth a watch if you like lots of blood and big bangs, scary monsters and tension by the bucket load. And Tom Hiddleston. 7.5 out of ten.

Facebook Funny – hehe – considering there’s been another wonderful discovery on the U shores of old dinosaur evidence (more here) I thought this one was topical this week!

This week the girls were having a chat on our online support group about how Freedom Eating makes you so much happier –

Eileen D – During my fat dieting days I learnt zilch other than dieting made me fatter and fatter. Just the one page of Key Points to Freedom Eating has been such a powerful influence on everything. These last few weeks of allowing sugar addiction to get a foothold have actually held a positive message.

Louise R – I agree Eileen. Ttfls has taught me to be happy being me too xx

Sue S – I only said to my hubby yesterday that this is the happiest I’ve ever felt in my body. Shame it happened when I’m in my 60’s. I’ve learnt to like and eat all sorts of thing’s including cake and biscuits without guilt and recriminations.

Ann S – I totally agree.

Do try it! And Come and join us!
