Hi everyone, hope you’re having a great week. If you’re having as good a time as Clogau have then you’ll be positively ecstatic!
This week I was fortunate enough to join the Clogau team at the UK Jewellery Awards held at The Tower of London. Wow. What a night. I met with the team at the hotel we were all staying in. Bill Roberts, the founder of Clogau and father to Ben (who now runs the company) and Sam (the designer) were there. What a fantastic character! I loved meeting him. He has a lust for life and a passion for Wales which I can’t help but be drawn to. Some of you may remember when he used to appear on QVC years ago.
Everyone was dressed in all their finery. My dress was this maxi, sparkling number from Onjenu at QVC and I even borrowed a lovely bag from our fashion department. It’ll be available to purchase when we launch Radley accessories in September – pretty great news if you’re a handbag fan, like me. Sonia is Clogau’s brand manager and she allowed me to borrow some of the most magical pieces I’ve ever had the pleasure to wear from Clogau. I could hardly bear to be parted from them again. Sooooo beautiful. So very Clogau. And so on my wish list!
We all strolled in the sunshine to the magnificent venue which was, essentially, within the moat of the Tower of London, where we were met with heavenly music courtesy of ex-royal harpist, Claire Jones. What a talent. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Claire a bit better over the last few months as we have collaborated with Clogau together to create a unique piece of jewellery for QVC. Read on for more on that…
George Lamb was the master of ceremonies for the awards. He was very good and very quick witted, just as on the tellybox. I felt such excitement for Clogau when they were up for ‘Bridal Collection of the Year’. When George began describing the attributes of the winners with such comments as “true to their heritage” I just knew it was Clogau! Sure enough, they won.
I posed for a photo with Graham Stock, who presents the range on QVC. He whispered in my ear just before the ‘Jewellery Brand of the Year’ was announced; “Catherine, this is the BIG one…” and, once again, when the attributes of the not-yet-revealed winners were being extolled I just knew it had to be Clogau! And it was! Clogau were the only brand to win two awards! My heart was bursting with pride for all of them. They really deserve it.
Some of my lovely QVC colleagues were there, too, as QVC were finalists in the ‘E-tailer of the Year’ category. We did so well to get shortlisted and were up against some pretty stiff competition and high end luxury brands. We are very proud of everyone who makes our online shopping experience such a wonderful one. Well done, you gorgeous Q, you!
The celebrations are far from over for Clogau as this year is their 25th anniversary. At QVC we’re celebrating with an exclusive piece which I was invited to create with them and lovely Claire, this exquisite ring.
I’m beyond proud to be involved in designing the first ever Clogau piece to include Wales’s only gemstone, the Preseli Blue stone. Claire grew up in the midst of those magnificent Preseli Hills in West Wales; I like to think this adds to the magic within the stones, as though her music is quietly within them. These are the same stones which were used in creating Stonehenge thousands of years ago.
I love that we are launching this piece around the time of the summer solstice because to its connections with Stonehenge, and the ring’s contrast of cool silver and warm rose gold, which I suppose could be interpreted as the winter and summer solstices. I felt the rose gold should be eternal and flowing so it encircles the cabochon stone with no beginning and no end, like a vein of Welsh lifeblood running through the design and beating within the two hearts-shaped Tree of Life leaves. I felt this was very symbolic that no matter how far from home the Preseli Blue stone travels from home the heart and history of Wales lies within it.
I’m really looking forward to presenting it with Claire and Graham on Tuesday, 23rd June at 12pm. Dale will be presenting with them, too, at 8pm so put a note in the diary. I hope you can join us!
Lots of love,
