What a summer

2013 Gardener's DiaryIt's official now. It's been the wettest summer for 100 years and the least sunny for 25 years! No wonder it has been such a challenge in the garden.

Although it has been a very frustrating season, it has been fascinating to see what has done well and what has struggled. Hardy Perennials such as delphiniums and hostas have flourished while sun loving bedding plants like geraniums have really struggled. My dahlias, although colourful, aren't anywhere as good as last years. Having said that, the new 'Mystic' series of dahlias has done well.

My potatoes got blight..I'm told even blight resistant varieties have succumbed this year.. but my greenhouse tomatoes are doing well, although cropping slightly later than in previous years.

The other news this week is that I'm launching my Gardener's Diary on QVC this coming weekend. It's a full colour hardback with weekly view pages, and includes my monthly gardening tips as well as some beautiful double page photographs by Clive Nichols, the award winning garden photographer. It's even got a pocket at the front, handy for a packet of seeds or a gardening article you don't want to lose. I'm delighted that it will cost just under £10 with free postage and packing and I really hope everyone likes it as much as I do.

Happy gardening
