Welcome back!

One of the motorhome resting placesHello again!

You may have noticed (well, I hope you did!) that I've been off your QVC screen for a while – I have just had the most wonderful THREE WEEK holiday! Olley and I decided that the children are all independent enough for us to head off on an adventure all on own, so we set off in our motorhome across the channel with no specific plans except to head south. We have only managed UK long weekends in the motorhome since we bought it last year, so this would be our first proper holiday in it.

Barney on holiday! We weren't completely alone – Barney the dog came with us for his first ever trip abroad. He is very proud of his new passport, and was determined to come with us as he was due to celebrate his 14th birthday while we were away! We make a good team – Olley drives while I map read and plan, with the help of a pile of guide and campsite books.

The freedom of being able to go where ever we want is something we both really enjoy – we had nothing booked, although we knew we wanted to explore the centre of France. The ancient volcanoes of the Auvergne, the river gorge of the Ardeche and on to the vineyards of Languedoc, then travelling north again through the Lot and Dordogne valleys.

Kathy in 'Vogue'!We did all this and more, spending four nights in Spain and enjoying the stunning scenery of the Pyrenees as well. We shopped for regional produce in local markets so we ate simply, cheaply but deliciously. Occasionally we indulged in long, leisurely meals in village restaurants that don't feature in any good food guide but where the cuisine, in our opinion, was worthy of any number of stars. We walked in the sunshine, swam in the rivers and drank the wine! Most of all, we relaxed.

Away from the pressures of our day to day lives, we enjoyed the most uninterrupted time together since our honeymoon 26 years ago. It took a week for me to lose my early morning awakening habit, but being able to roll over and go back to sleep rather than rise for the QVC Morning Show is one of the pleasures of being on holiday!

Landscape of extinct volcanoesWe had a moment when things didn't completely go our way – within a few hours of leaving Calais we had a crisis when our brakes failed! Olley managed to drive to a safe place to stay and we had to find a mechanic. With the help of our European breakdown cover, copious and imaginative sign language and a French dictionary we got it sorted and were on our way again. Other than that, we had the most fabulous time. We arrived home after three weeks feeling refreshed and recharged, and still with plenty of the British summer left to enjoy. And, of course, ready to rise bright and early to bring you the Morning Show once again.

And don't forget, Morning Style will be returning on Wednesday mornings at 10am on the first Wednesday in August (the 7th) and we'll be looking at how to create a capsule wardrobe, selecting garments that can work together to bring you lots of different outfits for various moods and occasions.

Hope you can join us!

All the best to you… Kathy xx

    Hi Kathy,
Its nice to see you back on screen – yes I did notice you were missing! Wow your trip sounds idyllic and just the kind of trip me and my hubby dream of doing one day. It sounds a real recharge the batteries type of break.
I’m glad to hear that the Morning style shows are coming back on our screens I look forward to tuning in next week.
    Best wishes

Hi Kathy! Well firstly you look stunning! You must have lost more weight because you look so svelte! You’re a real beauty anyway but you look the picture of health. Im so glad the mechanic fixed your breaks. Doesn’t bear thinking about. Can’t get over the tragedy in Madrid. And Italy. Glad you both had a fabulous holiday. Sure you are looking forward to many more! Love Susan x

O Kathy! You’ve holidayed just as I would love to. Sounds idyllic. Your Record has gone after all these years and to a
GB athlete too, that’s some recompence I guess.

    Dear Kathy
Nothing has gladdened me more than seeing you given your own show on QVC and wonderful you are at it, too. It’s obvious you have an interest in fashion but are honest enough to say that (like me) fashion doesn’t rule your life, and how much easier it is if that’s the case ….
Best bit of advice I was given as a teenager 40 years ago was by my very gorgeous, Jane-Mansfield like aunt, who said: never follow fashion because you’ll never have anything to wear (ie things go out of fashion in a matter of months). Instead, by things that suit you, and you’ll always be ‘in fashion’ and it’s absolutely true: I’m the one who spends least (hardly anything) on clothes, yet it’s me who’s constantly asked by co-workers “where did you get that from?” (usually something I’ve had in my wardrobe for 17 years!).
One of the most humbling personality traits – in my opinion – is to be self-deprecating, which you are in bucket loads and how endearing it makes you to the QVC audience. You’re realistic about your shortcomings (we all need to be!) but make the most of them in creating your own casual style for every day family life, and wearing what suits you when you have to ‘dress up’. Good on you, Kathy.
I have followed your career from your sporting days through to the Holiday programme and latterly QVC and what a credit you’ve been in all three guises.
    Warmest wishes and respectful admiration.

    Dear Susanne
Wow! What can I say? I’m blushing, but also really pleased that you enjoy my shows on QVC. Without any viewers all the QVC presenters would amount to nothing so thank you for your support – I hope I carry on earning it!
Thank you for your kind comments.
    With best wishes
    Kathy x
