As we all know, our Brand Ambassador Ruth Langsford has been incredibly busy these past few weeks. We did manage to catch her between dance practices to have a quick chat about – glamour! It’s all so exciting at the moment and we’re loving the sparkles and sequins, but how does Ruth really feel about glamour in her life, let’s find out…
What does glamour mean to you?
Glamour to me is dressing up! I think Hollywood, coiffured hair, diamonds, flawless make-up and a beautiful frock. But glamour can mean different things to different people, it can sometimes mean just putting on a bit of red lipstick when you’re on the school run. I don’t consider myself glamorous unless I’ve been made up by make-up artists, had my hair done and am off to some big red-carpet event. I would never describe myself as glamorous in my everyday life. But I do love it!
Tell us about a time you felt your most glamorous, and why?
I suppose I feel my most glamorous when doing a big event for work. One important industry night is the National TV Awards in January. Although I know it’s coming up, as I come out of my Christmas and New Year haze, it always takes me a little by surprise and I seem to prepare for the ceremony in a panic.
On the night it’s lovely, but I always have someone else do my make-up because, although I can do my own to a certain degree, it’s nice to have someone take care of it. Finding a dress for an event of that scale can be quite stressful too. I try and do high-street if I can, because people always want to know where the dress is from, but last year my stylist Ellie found my dress. She came to the house with six or seven designs, and said the blue one would look great. At first the colour scared me, I thought it was a bit bright and out there for me. I tried it on and it fit like a glove, but I was still a little unsure. Then, although all the others were nice, I kept going back to this blue one. Ellie said if I couldn’t be a bit out there for the NTAs, when could I be? So I went for it, and it did get a lot of attention!
If you were to host a glam party who would be on your guestlist?
If the party was glamorous that would be lovely, but the people on my guestlist wouldn’t necessarily be glamorous. It would be people who make me laugh, people who are interesting, people who are very good friends. So top of my list would always be my husband, because he’s the funniest man I know, and Anton Du Beke now. He’s become a very good friend, and he’s also very funny, his wife Hannah is delightful too. Janet Street-Porter, because she is the most interesting woman I know, and also very funny!
Then actually, I’d invite a lot of the people I work with, that aren’t well-known. In my everyday work life, they’re the people who are a huge part of making the shows work. We get very close, so make-up artists, people from wardrobe, floor managers… they’re all great. I would like a mix of people at my party, because I don’t really live a celebrity lifestyle. At our wedding, anyone who was there and was a celeb was there because they were our friend, not because of their celebrity status. Biggins is another friend I’ve known for years, and is hilarious, so would definitely be on the list.
Thanks Ruth! We’ll be catching up with Ruth again very soon, so check back for more. In the meantime, take a look at Ruth’s fabulous fashion range here.
