We have another addition to the family

Twinkle the new kittenThis is Twinkle our eight-week-old kitten saying hello to you all! She's either an angel or devil and currently I think the latter as she's currently attacking both me and the computer.

The claws are lethal and the tiny teeth are SOOOOO sharp. However, oh my word the angel version is DEEEElicious and in fact in the space of that bit of typing (shows how slow I am!) she's now wedged firmly next to me and…asleep!

It's all Dan's fault – Mr 'I'm a dog person we're not having a cat' only went and took me to a barn and upon opening the door and being confronted with eight squirming 3-week-old kittens, I burst into tears and got all the children in to see.

Twinkle diving into a cup The look on Maddie's face (her birthday was a few weeks away and she was DESPERATE for a kitten) my tears and the boys excitement clinched it. Dan's words were, "It's nothing to do with me, I take no responsibility". So yes, we left the barn with a picture of our new baby Twinkle, named by Maddie, surprise surprise!

Twinkle has been with us now for two weeks and Maddie particularly is in heaven. The constant comment is LEAVE HER ALONE but Maddie just cannot! She adores her and is permanently wandering around with Twinkle dangling off her. Trouble is she also picks her up when Twinkle is sleeping.

It's so sweet to see and right now I have no doubt my daughter will be a vet or similar – she's the one who helps religiously with the chickens, always asking to take Mungo the dog out for a walk and right now is working out how we could take Twinkle wherever we go!

Update on the building project – my house!

Lots of you are kindly asking about our house… well a planning officer came today and luckily she loves kittens, so do you think that letting her have a cuddle counts as a bribe? She looked around and so now we are just having to wait which isn't my forte! Hopefully not too much longer… we've bought a bath!

I know, stable, horse, bolted and all that but it was too good to miss out and there's no doubt we will be doing up the house even if we have to reapply endlessly, still lets be positive and cross everything.

Twinkle is awake again and attacking me, help! What is the answer to this clawing, pouncing and scratching, I seriously need some help. I've tried the firm voice and removing her but she's lethal…help, please!

Signing of with love from Claire and the dual personalities of Twinkle XXXX

PS. Life here is busy – I tell you the routine of feeding chickens, dog, kitten and three children in the morning means I'm very pleased on a Monday when the alarm goes off at 5am for the Morning SHOW as I leave it all for Daddy!

    Hi Claire
I hate cats and like Dan would very much prefer Dogs given the choice. My Mum would never allow me to have a cat when I was younger and I think I have taken that from her. I’m sure Twinkle will be fine – when she is sleeping!
PS Did you get your technical difficulties sorted with your comp?
    Much Love

    Hi Steven,
Maybe it`s a boy thing! Tom and Joe were caught yesterday attempting to bath Twinkle…say no more, lucky i was paying attention!
I do think it’s how you`re brought up re the cat dog divide. And no, still an issue for me to reply, I have to send an individual one into qvc so it can be posted up for me – big fat pain, but a way around it I guess.
Just going to look up cinema listings, think we need to give poor Twinkle a chance to…sleep!
    Lots of love, Claire x

Ha Ha go Tom and Joe – oops sorry Twinkle :)
Oh well as you say it allows you to reply at least Claire.
Hope twinkle is behaving herself. I just realised she is female that explains a lot. Ha ha only kidding Claire
    Take care x

Hello Claire, I’m jealous – again! Another gorgeous animal. Twinkle is beautiful (both versions). I think Maddie is a girl after my own heart. I love animals and was never allowed one when I was small. When I had the money I didn’t have the time and now I have the time I don’t have the money – or the energy! I don’t know if this will work but it is worth a try – pet shops sell scratching posts made of wood and carpet and they often have things for the cat to play with on them too. Try and train Twinkle to claw and mouth this rather than the humans and she might get the hang of it. Just a thought.
Hugs to everyone and pats and strokes to Mungo and Twinkle

Ahh Tom and Joe …….. no doubt they thought they were helping and being very kind!!!! Bless. I know my two little boys thought they would show our kitten, at the time, how to shot-putt!!! ….. Launching her high in the sky!! Ooops, No bones broken but boy did I have to keep an extra eye out for her!!! She is now 13 and still adorable. Although our pup, Biscuit has taken over now ….!!!!! Noticed that you are not in on Monday have you booked a little time off to be with the children? Hope you enjoyed the cinema!! So far we have watched Harry P and Transformers! Lets hope for the sunshine….please…. so much for the British heatwave!!! Take care. Love Debx
ps…. love the name Mungo for the dog, it bought back memories of ‘watch with mother……’ and ‘Mary, Mungo and Mitch’! Can you remember that! My husband recently bought me the dvd for an extra birthday present surprise!!!

I thought it was Mary, Mungo and Midge! Now that takes me back about thirty odd years! It was brilliant. I shall have to hunt out the dvd.
Let me know if the scratching post idea works. Reward good behaviour with treats (not many) and praise (lots) and ignore bad behaviour so she associates it with nothing happening. Although can you train a cat? I once saw someone out with their cat who was wearing a harness on their shoulder! Don’t try this at home Tom and Joe – I think it might cause trouble.

Hi, Mary mungo and mitch , i thought midge, but yes i watched it too, in fact named my goldfish, Mary and Midge to make up the trio!!Sadly, not for long, thank goodness Mungo has been with us more than a few months…!!Actually i have no recollection of where they went after, if you know what i mean!? Guess Dan dealt with them.
The film was fabulous, Ice Age 3d….Fantastic!!
I laughed out loud loads, ate Maddie’s popcorn, but the funniest bit was me putting on my sunglasses instead of the 3D ones for the first 10 minutes…….!and yes, a little escape up to yorkshire…Cant wait, we have a list of things to do now they’re all a little older, just organising a house sitter for Twinks and the chicks.
Covering Simon here on Christmas in July, then home to pack up…..bikinis….i wish, COME ON SUN….Lots of love, Claire x

Tina, great plan about the post, I wondered if I should trim her nails… couldnt do the childrens for years as I thought I’d do it and cut them so think I’ll ask the vet!!
You do sound like her Maddie that is!, you know yesterday she trotted in for a container for her new friend….Mr Worm!
I was lucky, we had Tippet and then a special girl Bramble whilst I grew up, so I know how in love Madds is right now!
    Have a good day Kristina,
Im off to celebrate CHRISTMAS…. Lots of love, and contented purrs from the little kitts,Claire xxx

    Hi Claire.
I know how you feel with regards to being clawed, our kitten is now 2 months old, but whe first got her at 8 weeks, she couldnt jump high enough and our legs were full of scratches everytime she wanted a cuddle, fortunatly she has learned to jump better so we dont get scratches all down our legs when she tries to jump into our laps. ”Put her down” is also a constant statement in our house too as our 3 year old daughter Eloise ‘needs’ to pick her up and carry her around at every available moment. A wise piece of equipment, if you haven’t already, is a scratch post, as they learn to use it quite quickly and use that to sharpen their claws, which saves your furniture. Hope all goes well, kittens are the best, ive never been a dog lover, i particularly like the independence cats have, which helps when you have to go out.

Hi Claire, hope your hands are still scratch free from Twinkle – great name by the way! I love cats but have an asthma attack at the mere mention of the word. My three best friends have cats so if I visit them I am limited to about half an hour then the eyes start closing and the wheezing gets worse so I know its time to make my way home! Bought lots at the County Show and everyone at home got a pressie. We are awaiting the delivery of a 5m by 4m cabin ( long story but delivery been changed 3 times) half of it is mine for a craft area for my scrapbooking and cards and the other is for my husbands bar with our son’s pool table. I bought him some slate advertisements and some Jimmy’s Farm sauasages; he was well pleased. We are going to attempt a day on the beach tomorrow but its sure to rain again as the school holidays have started! Love Mary x

Hi Claire I had a black and white cat called Sooty but he was the spitting image of the cat on the felin advert. he used to scratch my arms to feed him. I hope your new kitten settles in From Geraldine in Wandsworth

Hi Claire, everything Joanna say’s is true, as they get older they jump much better and once they start to use there claws outside on posts etc they file down themselfs hang in there it will get better, we sadly lost our cat 4 years ago and said we would never have another as you miss them so much, but our youngest daughter Rebecca never had the joy of having a kitten so guess what? you got it we gave in and welcomed Boston into our home a year ago and went through all the pain you are going but he has stopped and is the biggest sook ever he loves his cuddles, and we couldn’t imagine being without him, Maddie will have so much fun with twinkles and so will you as you watch the joy on her little face which makes it all worth while, take care love Rhona xx

Hi Claire – Twinkle looks adorable and just like my cat Jessica, who is 13. Jess has darkened up now but was apricot and lilac/grey as kitten, with a ginger star on her forehead. She too has a jekyll & hyde like character – typical of tortoiseshells according to my vet. When she wants a fuss and lots of cuddles its on her terms, otherwise her claws are still like needles! If you remember the vital difference between dogs and cats – dogs think they are on this planet to please you, with cats it’s the other way round – you won’t go far wrong. Take care Jane

What a lovely kitten – I am soooo jealous. I have two cats who I adore and they were wild as kittens. They suddenly grow up at about 9 months and metamorphose into cats. So you generally stop getting sratched then. However my 4 year old still bites when he wants attention.

Hello hello hello, to you all, Ive been slack replying promptly but woosh its busy this end..!
Geraldine, guess what, my nicknames Sooty!! So that made me smile!
Mary, did the beach day happen? We hopped down to Mersea on Saturday, it was perfect. I’m so intrigued by the cabin…how will you seperate your zones Im wondering?!!
Deb, Yorkshire was the best..bar the rain, so yep the bikinis stayed in and the brolly came out. Hoping to chat about it when I grab a moment to write.
Trudy, of course I remember you lovely lot. Don’t forget Matthew was my first love!!! Now how old were we??? 6 or so, and of course Mark and Brigit’s wedding…at about 10 I guess it wasnt a legal age to wed!! I LOVED our growing up time, the endless summers playing schools. Brigit always slept with her window open, I think that’s why she was so beautiful. I remember Oulder Hill with lots of love. How`s Spain? Mummy enjoys your catchups!
Must dash, I’m on air at 11am, so bye for now, Claire xx

Hi Claire, the beach did happen and is continuing as we have the use of a friends beach hut which sits on the prom 5 metres from the beach.Enjoying beautiful sunsets and the kids are happy and I don’t need to go near the sand!! The cabin was delivered at 9am Saturday and was fully upright by lunch time. What an amazing piece of kit! The bar and craft areas are being seperated by my sons pool table – not a full size but big enough! When it is fully kitted out will send you a photo! Have a great week, just going to order my Renee TSV. Mary x

    Hello Clare,
Your recent Christmas in July event got me thinking, I remember when I first joined qvc about 4 or 5 years ago that you had a wonderful Christmas special from a huge country house complete with gorgeous tree and sweeping staircase! It was so festive, I loved it! But you haven’t done anything like that at Christmas since, at least not to my knowledge! So I wondered if qvc would be doing one again this year, it was just so Christmassy!
    PS. Twinkle is sooo cute!

Hey Auntie Claire, We’re now mid way through the summer holidays and the bordem of rainy tuesday afternoons has reduced me to reading every single one of your blogs! I’m not quite sure whether thats lovely or just plain sad haha, i’m thinking its more the latter one though!
It’s fab to see a picture of little twinkle whom i’ve heard so much about, shes GORGEOUS! I hardly remember our cats, Armani and Dior, being that cute – take lots of pictures, it won’t last haha!
I’ve come to the conclusion that its been far, far too long since we all met up, defo need to arrange something before the summer ends!
Hows everyone? Are T, J + M all having a super holiday? I wonder if joe is as excited about his birthday as i am, i’ve been counting the days for atleast 3 months now, it’s almost here!
Right i should proberly go and get ready for dance, will talk soon.
