Vintage crafting has always been a particular passion of mine. I love to collect old books, Victorian cards and scrapbooks. There is something about the unknown stories behind these things that fascinates me.
If you love the vintage look you could always try altering books and other items to give them a vintage twist – they don't even have to be old, you can get them from the charity shop!
I love to play with books using marbling inks, you can get a really old look to them if you hold the pages together and marble the edges, they get that beautiful old Italian book binders look. I even decorate the covers of mine with marble papers – on a bookshelf this can give a look of traditional leather bound books too.
Give it a go, but whatever you do make sure you don’t do this to a book your husband found in one of the rooms when you moved into your derelict house and spent months lovingly restoring it along with a library full of others. He couldn't hit the roof because there was no roof on at the time!
One style that never goes out of fashion in crafting is vintage. This can be pretty vintage, traditional vintage or vintage with a touch of grunge, but vintage is always there. I love to walk around the craft shows and see the different styles.
One of the biggest trends at the moment is to change the look or tint of the colour of paper or card using Distress Inks and this is a great way to add a vintage look to any of your crafting project.
We see this style of crafting at all of the consumer shows and the trade shows too. The 'inky edges' style is even seeping into the high street card stores – I only ever go in there for research you understand! So whether you want pretty pinks, grungy browns or anything in between you will always find a crafty way to 'vintage' it up.
