Debbie and ShyamaThis week -

- Does your skincare need an overhaul? Try Murad – competition to win a bundle worth over £200!

- Would you like to meet my dogs – or me? Bluebell Walk dates – plus come to my book launch near Dorking on June 29th!

What a lovely way to spend an evening with a good friend! My pal Shyama and I used a Groupon voucher to go up the Vertigo42 Tower (the old Natwest tower) to the observation floor, which doubles as a little bar/nibbles venue with great views!!

Vertigo views

If you look closely in the pic above with the dark clouds you can see the Battersea Power Station roughly in the middle of the pic, then slightly towards 10 o'clock. What a view! Threadneedle Street is in the foreground of the other one. And you can see even more by walking around the other side of the 42nd floor – all safely behind solid, thick glass walls though – my favourite way of ‘doing’ heights, but a great TiFFT*!

Here’s a look around, especially so you can say you’ve seen it!

Debbie's dogsThis is Patch, Daisy, and Gracie – would you like to meet them? Literally?

I’m planning a charity walk in memory of Holly, my eldest black lab. Well it’s time to call on your input please ladies, or anyone who lives near Dorking! The Bluebell doggy charity walk is on.

The afternooon we’re looking at is Sunday 20th July – can you come meet up for an hour or so – it’d be lovely to see you! You can help walk the pogs too!

We’re going to be asking for sponsorship, even if it’s just a few pounds, to help with the charity and the point is to have fun, fresh air and remember lovely Holly dog, my old girl who sadly passed on in March. And to raise some money for a great cause!

Email me to find out more! And also if you’d like to come along to my book launch tea party on Sunday 29th June near RH5 6QQ – see below.

MuradOnce again, it’s end of the month competition time for this blog! And what a bundle it is!

You’ll have seen Zoe from Murad on air with Alison this week and they’ll be back in the summer, but do go read the reviews online for this fabulous range.

Personally, I love the story about Dr Murad being a pioneer of early Glycolic ingredients and the resulting skincare produces impressive results. For faster-acting effects than some ranges, do give this one a go if you’re in need of a lift.

I know I do lots of other things too, that benefit my skin, including Imedeen, Tresonics/Clarisonic, and other beauty products I have to trial. But ATM I’m nearly at the bottom of my first Complete Reform Glyco Firming Complex and that’s always a good sign!

Here’s a good way of trying the range – when it comes back in stock (NN.B expect small sizes – read reviews first), see the Murad Discovery Kit online and a video explaining it all – with guest Jeff Murad and therapist Sam.

To win the random draw all you have to do is leave me a comment below, stating you’d like to enter the Murad comp. Let me know why too, out of interest – what appeals to you most about the brand? Winner next week, full T & C’s here, and comp closes at midday on Thursday 8th May. Good luck!

RiWiSi – my weekly look at all things book!

Book of the Week – Desperate Measures by Claire Firth

Desperate MeasuresWoo hooo! It’s finally here! For lovers of her first fab story, raunchy Regency romance writer Claire is back with a spin off from The Reluctant Bride.

This time, we follow the fortunes of ill-matched Lady Isabelle Pennington and Guy, Duke of Rotherham.

Izzy has been put off men for life. Married off by her family, to an abusive man 35 years her senior, she is now widowed and virtually penniless.

Guy has had one wife walk out on him and has no wish to enter the matrimonial stakes again.

Two damaged people, intent on maintaining their independence. But there’s a magnetic attraction – and once passion flares it is not easily extinguished. Warning – adult steamy scenes! Lol.

Do give it a go – click here to download the eBook from Amazon whilst it’s at launch price!

It’s only a little informal get-together on a Sunday afternoon with nibbles in the village hall in the next village from me, but if you’d like to buy a book and come along, please put it in your diary!

A friendship onlineA lovely galvanising week this week on our little Facebook groups, including the creation of the Lemonistas!

We’re all feeling the benefits of having hot water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a few slices of lemon every day – go here to the Monday B2U essay on my website, to find out more about why, and about alkalizing the body.

But, Chief ‘fruit loop’ Debbie Sinclair Bunn made us laugh – she didn’t have any fresh ones, so she floated her jif plastic lemon in the top of the mug! Does this count?! Lol.

Facebook commentThe group posted some lovely updates again this week. Like the one from Seirian Thomas who’s started the #100HappyDays drive – to post or focus every day for just over 3 months, about something that makes us happy! Either that or we’re all turning into the Fonz! Lol.

Straight Edge – rebels without a hangover! Yes it’s a thing. Yes really. A movement of people all determined to ‘live clean’ – no smoking, drinking, drugs, & many are vegan – sounds a bit like my life!

But far from being boring, it’s enabling them, they say, to live each day clear headed rather than giving in to peer pressure! For me it’s more about not having something else be in control of me. Are you the same? Or the total opposite?!

More in an article in the news this week about the Straight Edge, which has been going for years apparently, having originated as part of a movement connected with heavy rock! And some are teens – loads of them are, in fact! Good for them. I think I was born Straight Edge! Hehe! Give me a cup of tea anytime – Stephen Fry and I would get along famously!

Our girls on the Facebook groups talk about what they’re giving up, and I’ve covered some of it in my latest web update on the Back to You page on including:-

- sugar

- divorce

- relationship pruning

The site also goes over the importance of alkalising the body and tests your lying abilities.

Plus, there's another extract from my weight loss book, Till the Fat Lady Slims – just click here to read it all on Back To You page. And do sign up for the free weekly newsletters as that’s how I’ll be bringing you the latest extracts from my new book too!

Apparently, she says they run about up the garden chasing after the dog and are hilarious! Just part of the menagerie, which is also listed in the article, read more here!

I'm back with Ingrid on 1st June, but she’s got an all day special (ahem!) on Friday 16th May – a sleeveless dress with a mesh hem – whoop!

Then it’s my birthday on Saturday so, apart from the TV launch (see above), I’m off till the Monday 12th!

Tony Blackburn tweetCongrats to my former TV Husband Tony Blackburn! In the days B.L. – Before Lee Hohbein – Tony B was my honorary TV spouse. The Telegraph had a fab article this week (click here) about his career and about his latest lifetime achievement award for 50 years in broadcasting – well done Tone!

To commemorate, he says hi to all his old QVC viewers – if you have a message back, do comment below! Go here to follow Tony Blackburn on Facebook or @tonyblackburn on Twitter.

Old friendsYou can’t make old friends – but you can meet them for lunch! Haha! Sorry Kevski!

Met my old pal Kev for lunch this week too – he’s a composer (TV series mainly) and often comes out with little gems. He said to me once how important our friendship is, 'cos you "can’t make old friends anew" – very, very true. Don’t you think?

P.S. – he’s the one in the background with the billboard when our Young Shakespeare Company played Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Old Vic in 1982. All these years later he’s just got a couple of new commissions – am very proud of my old mate! More later in the year.

Debbie with her web guyHastings Stay I finally met my lovely web guy David this week, to talk about my, on a two day trip to Hastings – my old childhood holiday haunt.

We went there every year when I was a kid – to the Combe Haven caravan site – ahhh some lovely memories!

I stayed at the Cloudesley hotel run by the eccentric Sharia – what a character he is! His wifi code is a certain word and number because, he told me, “that word is a herb that kills cancer in small amounts, and kills a human in large ones, plus 1-8-7 which is the NYPD code for homicide.”??? Lol – what a character he is!

Sooo going to be an inspiration for someone in one of my books! And David web guy discussed with me how to make it easier to add a comment on my site, and how to put more freebies up – on my own website – like the first chapter of my novels and another short story I’m doing for Hallowe’en! And maybe even a podcast of me reading some of my story…

If you could listen to one of my stories, which one would it be?

Pathe Newsreels on Youtube You can imagine how excited I was to read this week that – not only are the Star Wars originals incl Han Solo (be still my beating heart – ‘I love you’ – ‘I know’..) back in the next episode of the blockbuster film series out next December, but, some vintage footage of 85,000 ancient newsreels – going back far further than the late 70’s – have now been put on Youtube for all to see – whoohooo! 85,000!

I’m going to be perusing the 1930s ones for inspiration for my novel that follows Hawaiian Retreat… Can’t say any more for now! Try this one anyway, the first flight in the world and the start of a transport revolution – from 1903! Coool!

Facebook FunnyFacebook funny – Anyone seen the cat? Funneeeee!

The Butler – on demand.
Amazing film. Just loved it – every bit of it. Based on a true story of the popular black butler working in the Whitehouse from the 50s to the 90s, its backdrop is the struggle against prejudice in the USA across eight decades.

It’s packed with top stars – but Forrest Whittaker steals the show in the lead as the Presidents’ butler, although Oprah Winfrey comes close as his long suffering wife. Incredible that the life span of the subject of this biopic spans childhood days in near-slavery on a cotton farm in the early 1900’s to finally seeing Obama get into the Whitehouse.

Some uncomfortable scenes, but it’s ultimately a feel good film and its impact goes deep. Look out for John Cusack as Nixon, and Jane Fonda (perfect casting) & Alan Rickman as Nancy & Ronald Reagan.

The Kennedy assassination seen from inside the Whitehouse is also done really well. Loved it. Highly recommended. 9/10 – another high one from me!

Next week – a one day film producing workshop – how to make a film for a million pounds (well, I can dream can’t I…?!) – And a gritty thriller Day of the Vikings as Book of the Week!

Have a fab week!

Best wishes

    Hi Debbie
I would like to enter your Murad comp, I have read all the reviews and it sounds a great brand to try, as believe me I have tried several, and I had given up trying all the Brands as I thought I’ll just have to make do with what I’m using although I don’t see any differance with my skin in fact the lines and sallow skin tone are getting worse , I’ve got now that when I wash my face I don’t even bother looking as it in the mirror as I get upset at there being no change, I would love to try Murad with the results in the reviews I have a bit of hope.
    Thanks Debbie fingers crossed xxx:)

Hi Debbie, I would love to enter the Murad competition please. You have totally inspired and motivated me, especially since January 2014, on your Monday evening shows, with my new love the Bodyblade. Now with the amazing Facebook page “Break the Habit” I am now drinking 2.5 litres of lemon water, walking between 2-4 miles and of course doing at least 6 minutes on my Bodyblade every day. I only started on the water & walking in the last week & feeling totally amazing. So I would love to win the Murad skincare, as Dr Murad himself says “Ageing is a fact of Life. Looking your age IS NOT.” I have a new lease of life thanks to you Debbie and I want to look as good as I feel on the outside as I do in the inside.

Hi Debbie. Can I firstly say just how much I always look forward to reading your blog!!!!! You are amazing, all the info and all the fun included is a brilliant read!!!! I would absolutely love to enter the Murad competition please!!!! I was soooo excited when you mentioned last week that this was coming up. I have been constantly looking up this brand since I last saw it on air, it looks and sounds so results driven. I have been desperately looking for some amazing results on my skin, on my pigmentation marks, my open pores and my fine lines and wrinkles and so I took the plunge and I have also invested in the Complete Reform Glyco Firming Complex. On my very first application I saw unbelievable results on my open pores and oh my gosh, the clarity of my skin!!! I can’t wait to see what furthermore results I’m bound to get as I continue using it. I know I’m going on a bit now but I would absolutely love to try more of this incredible range and as it’s quite expensive, winning this competition would have me singing from the roof tops!!!!!!

Please could you enter me in the Murad comp? Would like to try a Glycolic range as I’m interested in trying resurfacing products that don’t exacerbate the redness I’m beginning to get.
P.S. Like the view from the Shard – I can see my office in Fenchurch Street!

Hey Debbs, I’d love to win the Murad competition as although I’m on a limited budget, I try to do the best to protect & care for my skin & having now completely moved on to Ultrasun products to protect it as much as is possible I also want to do whatever I can to reduce pores, combat pigmentation problems & just look after my skin to the best of my ability. Your skin always looks amazing & I’ve said so before because you happily take off makeup & start from scratch on YBF shows & look just as good without makeup as with, so if Murad is good enough for you then I would be ecstatic to win it so it could start doing its magic on me!

I would love to win the Murad competition. I am beginning to turn my life around after a simple but serious diagnosis of symptoms that have been ‘bugging’ me for 50+ years. The condition is lifelong but the therapy is simple but drying on the skin. If I won it would certainly go a long way to helping me feel better about things.
