Jackie with Royal harpist Claire Jones and Clogau's Graham Stock

My unusual wedding anniversary gift…and more!

3

Hello!
Here we are in September already, with autumn just around the corner – is it just me, or do the years race by more quickly as you get older? Work has been so much fun recently though – we’re lucky to get so many great guests joining us on our shows, and I really enjoyed having former Royal harpist Claire Jones in the studio last week (pictured with me and Clogau’s Graham Stock). She played at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and enchanted us all by playing for us throughout a Sunday lunchtime jewellery show. Just delightful!

the dinosaur tooth! At home, there was massive excitement for me because the gift I had chosen for my 20th wedding anniversary this week finally arrived. You may remember that in a previous blog I told you I was getting something a little unusual, and asked you to guess what that might be. Unsurprisingly, nobody guessed correctly…when I tell you what it is, you’ll know why! My lovely hubby said I could have anything I wanted, and I briefly considered an eternity ring or something similar. But then I thought, what have I ALWAYS wanted, something really special? So here it is….my 20th wedding anniversary present – it’s a fossilised dinosaur tooth!!

Different, eh? You should have seen the faces of my mum and sisters when I told them – they thought I was COMPLETELY bonkers!

I, however, am beyond thrilled with it. I’ve been slightly obsessed with dinosaurs ever since my student days when I did a zoology degree, and really wanted a fossilised dinosaur egg, but a good example costs quite a lot, so that’s something to save up for. But this tooth is incredible – I love it so much. It’s from a carcharodontosaurus, one of the biggest and fiercest dinosaurs ever to roam the earth and known for its deadly sharp teeth. They were found in North Africa and were even bigger than the Tyrannosaurus Rex, although with smaller brains. This tooth was found in Morocco and is 98 million years old. I can’t stop looking at it, and miss it when I have to go to work in London and leave it behind (yes, that’s how sad I am. BEST PRESENT EVER.)

I’ll be leaving it behind this week though, because we’re off to Jersey for a few days to celebrate our anniversary – we lived there for three years and got married there, so it will be a wonderful trip down memory lane. More about that in my next blog.

Finally, a quick snippet from a show I did at the weekend. You know how sometimes you just open your mouth and something quite inappropriate comes out? That’s what happened when I was trying to find the words to describe a wonderfully elegant Tiffany style lamp…oh dear!

Hi Jackie, congratulations on your Wedding Anniversary. Your present is very interesting, not something you can just go and buy from any store. Good on you really different.
My husband loves the programmes on dinosaurs , I
don’t think I would want to be out walking in a wood if they were
still around. I will let him read your blog I am sure he will find it interesting.
Have a great time in Jersey how lovely to be going there again.
Saw the video oop’s too late when you have said it isn’t it, not as if you can do a retake.
    Have a great time away.

    Hi Jackie,
I love the fact that you celebrate your uniqueness and don’t ‘follow the crowd.’ I’m glad you’ve got a present which is just what you wanted – I don’t know enough about dinosaurs, very little but I always love seeing the skeleton of one at the entrance of The Natural History Museum. Not that I am there every week, would be nice though!
I haven’t been to Jersey but I’ve heard it’s beautiful and I am a fan of ‘Bergerac’ which is now being repeated on the telly. I’m looking forward to hearing about your trip. Congratulations on your 20th Wedding Anniversary.
Last but not least, enjoyed the clip – your comments did bring a smile to my face and then the other lady joined in too.
    KEEP HAVING FUN, Beth XXX.

    Hi Jean and Beth,
Thanks for the kind wishes and I’m glad you like my dinosaur tooth! I’m still working out where to keep it but I think it may have to live on my desk so I can see it all the time!
    Love Jackie x
