A perk of working four day shifts means sometimes the end of one week lines up to the start of the next, hence my five day 'staycation' with my lovely man. Just prior to my writing holiday next week! Yay!
In this week's blog…
- Day trips and nights out including 'Legally Blonde'
- Underwater dog cam
- and Super 'Super 8'!
Weren't we lucky with the weather? Well for a couple of days anyway. On Saturday Nigel and I used one of the many 'Groupon' vouchers I've been buying to sample tapas in Wimbledon Village – in the first of many burning afternoons.
If you've never heard of them it's well worth signing up for their email alerts – many do services and offers in other places round the country not just in London. Google 'Groupon', 'Wahanda', 'Living Social' and 'mycitydeals'. We've got other things lined up too like wakeboarding and karaoke in Brighton so it's not just massages and food!
But very nice the food was too. Then it was home to mine to chill. It was lovely having a few days off to just relax – I did intend to do some jobs but time flew and anyway we'd done more than enough helping Brad and Kari move flats in Fulham Road on Sunday afternoon – also in the heat!
We rewarded ourselves with a little frappuccinno afterwards – me and Kari – she's tiny just like my sister is (around 5 foot tall) but a lovely future daughter-in-law to be! Their new place is really light and airy – made me want to live there myself! Then after a wash and brush up it was straight off to a nice pub just off Piccadilly called 'Waxy O'Connors' – Irish band and Colcannon mash to boot! Lovely.
Monday evening we went to see 'Legally Blonde' – highly recommended – some fab performances – specially the one who plays the hairdresser – so funny. Then Tuesday and Wednesday we chilled. Mind you we'd kicked off our staycation at the end of last week, when Gracie filled in and did my blog for me (!) with that lovely river cruise up the Thames – with Craig and Justine Balmer, as well as my brother Glenn and his wife Boki.
Craigy was hard at work, using a great TSV bridge camera – which was on air on Saturday 7th. One of the shots Mat Trim blew up full size was this lovely one in the setting sun, of me and my man – it's now my screen saver!

Again that was another voucher – just shows you what you can do if you open up your mind to new experiences! We had cheese and wine and a slow meander down the Shepperton stretch of the Thames, culminating in a return to Walton and a late night pizza with the gang. Lovely. So a good time was had by all!
Talking of new cameras – well, camcorders, to be precise – have you ever been in a pool with the kids mucking around and wished you could film what was going on underwater? I remember a few years back going to Center Parcs with Lolly and Brad and having a clever little disposable that took some excellent shots under the water – one of Lauren is on my wall at home. Well on Tuesday 16th August there's a brilliant new Panasonic one coming up.
BUT the main gist of it is of course to be able to take footage under water. So off I went to doggy swimming to find out what goes on with Gracie's legs and maybe to see how her poorly hips have been doing after all this hydrotherapy. Well very interesting it was too – here's a clip to show you.
Finally – a little recommendation to see what's being called the 'feel good film of the summer' – and it certainly is. 'Super 8' – a bit of a cross between 'ET' and 'Close Encounters' and an early Jodie foster film. Loved it, we did! Definitely eight and half out of ten.
Have you seen any great films at the cinema lately? I missed seeing 'Larry Crowne' but loved 'Bridesmaids'!
ANYWAY have a great week and I'll report back once I've returned from my week away on the writing retreat in Inverness!
