Underwater cameras and staycations

Nigel and Debbie at Waxy O'Connors A perk of working four day shifts means sometimes the end of one week lines up to the start of the next, hence my five day 'staycation' with my lovely man. Just prior to my writing holiday next week! Yay!

In this week's blog…
-    Day trips and nights out including 'Legally Blonde'
-    Underwater dog cam
-    and Super 'Super 8'!

Staycation time
Weren't we lucky with the weather? Well for a couple of days anyway. On Saturday Nigel and I used one of the many 'Groupon' vouchers I've been buying to sample tapas in Wimbledon Village – in the first of many burning afternoons.

If you've never heard of them it's well worth signing up for their email alerts – many do services and offers in other places round the country not just in London. Google 'Groupon', 'Wahanda', 'Living Social' and 'mycitydeals'. We've got other things lined up too like wakeboarding and karaoke in Brighton so it's not just massages and food!

Debbie and Nigel at the tapas bar But very nice the food was too. Then it was home to mine to chill. It was lovely having a few days off to just relax – I did intend to do some jobs but time flew and anyway we'd done more than enough helping Brad and Kari move flats in Fulham Road on Sunday afternoon – also in the heat!

We rewarded ourselves with a little frappuccinno afterwards – me and Kari – she's tiny just like my sister is (around 5 foot tall) but a lovely future daughter-in-law to be! Their new place is really light and airy – made me want to live there myself! Then after a wash and brush up it was straight off to a nice pub just off Piccadilly called 'Waxy O'Connors' – Irish band and Colcannon mash to boot! Lovely.

Monday evening we went to see 'Legally Blonde'  – highly recommended – some fab performances – specially the one who plays the hairdresser – so funny. Then Tuesday and Wednesday we chilled. Mind you we'd kicked off our staycation at the end of last week, when Gracie filled in and did my blog for me (!) with that lovely river cruise up the Thames – with Craig and Justine Balmer, as well as my brother Glenn and his wife Boki.

Debbie and Nigel on the boat trip Craigy was hard at work, using a great TSV bridge camera – which was on air on Saturday 7th. One of the shots Mat Trim blew up full size was this lovely one in the setting sun, of me and my man – it's now my screen saver!

Having trouble viewing this video? See YouTube's Help page.

Again that was another voucher – just shows you what you can do if you open up your mind to new experiences! We had cheese and wine and a slow meander down the Shepperton stretch of the Thames, culminating in a return to Walton and a late night pizza with the gang. Lovely. So a good time was had by all!

Underwater cam
Talking of new cameras – well, camcorders, to be precise – have you ever been in a pool with the kids mucking around and wished you could film what was going on underwater? I remember a few years back going to Center Parcs with Lolly and Brad and having a clever little disposable that took some excellent shots under the water – one of Lauren is on my wall at home. Well on Tuesday 16th August there's a brilliant new Panasonic one coming up.

Lovely sunset It's got a wicked zoom and takes some ace special effects modes – for instance this little sunset the other night.

BUT the main gist of it is of course to be able to take footage under water. So off I went to doggy swimming to find out what goes on with Gracie's legs and maybe to see how her poorly hips have been doing after all this hydrotherapy. Well very interesting it was too – here's a clip to show you.

Super 8
Finally – a little recommendation to see what's being called the 'feel good film of the summer' – and it certainly is. 'Super 8' – a bit of a cross between 'ET' and 'Close Encounters' and an early Jodie foster film. Loved it, we did! Definitely eight and half out of ten.

Have you seen any great films at the cinema lately? I missed seeing 'Larry Crowne' but loved 'Bridesmaids'!

ANYWAY have a great week and I'll report back once I've returned from my week away on the writing retreat in Inverness!

Debs, Congratulations on finally reaching ‘THE END’, just hope you didn’t get attacked by too many midges up there !
Like the sunset pic and with all the storm activity around recently found the ‘sunset mode’ on the HS10 great for taking dramatic storm cloud shots too.
    Take care, Nige

    Susan –
What a lovely comment you’ve left me – how kind of you to say so! Yes we’ve certainly been very busy this summer that’s for sure! Nige is such fun to be with tho – all my family love him too – it’s just so easy to find myself with him a lot! Still taking things easy of course – it’s still only been two months! This time round anyway…
And what did you mean about the ‘road’ incident? Which bit, in Bridesmaids do you mean hon?

Nigel – no, no midges – didn’t really go outdoors if truth be known! But watch out next week for the pics of the place – I had the best view ever from my writing table!
All that’ll be from the panasonic tsv too!
Glad you’ve been doing a Mat Trim yourself hon!
    best wishes

Yes I absolutely LOVE river cruises – want to do more for sure! Maybe next year for my 50th I’ll do a big one in May, we’ll see.
And as for glow of happiness – yes I have a very good time with Mr Rhodes – and what’s more, I really really like him! lol

Lol I have baffled you Debs?! The ‘road’ incident…don’t want to be too graphic but you remember when they girls were in the shop trying on dresses and all of a sudden came over all sweaty betty?? Then the scenes after that…oh I had to look away!! The road incident…trying to get across the road…and not quite making it…you get my drift! x

    Hi Debbie
I went to see Legally Blonde in London in August last year and absolutely loved it. At that time it had in it Sheridan Smith who I think is fab and Richard Fleeshman (gorgeous) and it was fantastic. It is coming to Woking next year so am definitely going to see it again – I have the sound track which is fab. I have also seen Bridesmaids and thought it was so funny.
    take care

Hi Debs and thanks hun :o) Camcorder came while I was away so I opened it last night when I got home but was too tired to set it up as we were quite late getting here. I’m about to have a proper look now and will post some pics or footage on FB once it’s up and running. Glad to hear you’ve had such a lovely summer with Nigel – it’s nice to know you are still getting on well.
Hope you get on well with sorting out your minor issues with the ending of your book – it’ll be fab to have a read of it, and good luck with getting it published – I’m sure you’ll have a ready market for it on here as we’re all your fans :o)
Looking forward to your next shows on the Q,
    Love and hugs

    Hi Debs
Heard you mention this morning about your campain for wide fitting shoes. I agree wholeheartedly QVC should sell more shoes for the wider footed lady, and not frumpy ones either! But not too high as I need comfort in shoes now. I recently ordered the Lotus rope wedged shoes, but disappointedly had to return them because on the model they looked quite wide, but when I removed them from the box, I knew they wouldn’t fit me, and I knew I wasn’t a size 7. When I spoke to one of QVC’s Customer Care Team I mentioned that the company bringing the shoes should tell the presenter what width they are when on air, so that the customer is not disappointed when they arrive, and not wasting her money on postage. Good luck with your campain. I’m backing you all the way.
