Travelling, writing and fabulous flannel!

4

Hi everyone,

I’m feeling rejuvenated this week after a weekend away – I’ve been crazy busy recently and was feeling a little weary but it’s amazing what a short break can do! Hubby and I zoomed over to Denmark for two nights to take in the sights of Copenhagen; he’d been before with a friend but it was my first time and I absolutely loved it. We crammed a lot in – we took a boat tour during which we saw the world-famous Little Mermaid sculpture, visited the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek art museum, went to a gig by Hungarian jazz star Nikoletta Szőke, and did some shopping, eating and drinking too. (OK, quite a lot of shopping, eating and drinking.)

And although I’m not normally into Halloween at all, it was quite astounding how beautifully decorated the city was for the occasion, including the biggest pumpkin I’ve ever seen atop one of the buildings in the Tivoli Gardens…

Anyway, now it’s back to work and full steam ahead as we enter our busiest period of the year, the run up to Christmas! I’m also very busy on my days off because it’s also now full steam ahead with my writing as I start my second novel. As I told you in a recent blog, I was absolutely delighted to fulfil a long-held dream and land a three-book publishing deal in September. The first book is finished (well, apart from some editing) and will be out sometime in 2015, but I have a deadline of the end of April 2015 for book two – eek! It is all planned out so I know exactly what’s going to happen, but now I have to actually start writing it. To make the task easier I’ve done up my writing room at home (it’s actually our box room, which is my walk-in wardrobe/office).

As I’m going to be spending a LOT of time in there over the next few months I’ve treated myself to a new chair and some nice calming neutral decor, in direct contrast to my novels in which murder and mayhem rules. Actually that’s a slight exaggeration – my books revolve around murders, but there’s romance and a touch of humour in there too, so they are not gory thrillers, more what publishers refer to as “cosy” crime. I’m very nervous about the first one coming out….I’ll keep you posted nearer the time!

Now, anyone who gets bored of me writing about my bedding obsession, stop reading now…everyone else, read on! Do you remember flannel bedding when we were children? Slightly rough, a bit scratchy, not our favourite thing? Well, as with all things, technology in bedding manufacture has moved on in massive leaps, and modern flannel bedding is SO different – super soft, luxurious and so warm. If you haven’t tried it recently (or if you have, and love it!), you NEED to get hold of QVC’s Today’s Special Value offer on Monday 10th November. It’s not just one but TWO sets of gorgeous Northern Nights flannel bedding – so you’re getting two duvet covers, two fitted sheets and four pillow cases.

It’s 100 per cent brushed cotton flannel and both sets are reversible – set one is a solid colour on one side and striped on the other (as in my photo), with a striped sheet, and set two is a solid colour on one side with a plain white reverse and a plain sheet. It means you can mix and match to get loads of different looks, and there are three great colours to choose from – neutral, blue and antique rose. I think flannel is perfect from autumn right through to spring – it is lightweight but so warm.  And because these sets come packaged separately, you could always keep one yourself and give one as a Christmas gift. Top tip – wash it before you first use it, just to remove any lint left over from the manufacturing process! Give it a go and let me know what you think.

I always love to hear from you so do get in touch, either by leaving a comment under this blog or by following me on Twitter (@jackiekabler).

Bye for now!

Yes I do find writing relaxing…I sit down intending to do just a quick half an hour and three hours later I’ll still be sitting there! It’s a great escape.

Hi Jackie. Glad you enjoyed your trip to Copenhagen. Hubby and I went in July for four nights to celebrate his birthday. We absolutely loved every single minute. There was so much to see and do – we didn’t stop. Loved the place, the people, the food. Could have stayed longer. A bit late to mention this, I know, but so glad you joined QVC. You have fitted in perfectly – seems as though you have always been there! I was so pleased when I heard you were joining. I can remember watching you regularly on Central TV. We live in Worcestershire and I come from Birmingham so that was my news! Congratulations on the book deal too. Denise x
