Another lovely weekend walk with the woofas at my daughter’s in Farnham – and Bradley came too! Whilst he was still awaiting news of the new baby. I was dropping off one of my pieces of exercise equipment for her to use since it’s so cold outside at the moment! Nice time to snuggle up indoors though! It’s been changeable in Devon – my regular vlogs (video blogs) on Facebook are in all sorts of weather, with news of goings on in my life. For instance, many dog walks under grey clouds this week, except this one day when there was the most amazing blue sky – look at these colours – the wonders of nature eh?
Needless to say, I had another busy week, but this week, I actually managed to sit still for a while…
Brilliant Big Box Phenomenon
I’m writing this just as I’ve finished watching the most amazing and award winning TV drama series. It’s one of those that stays with you for ages afterwards – you know the kind? It’s won the main actresses award after award and will no doubt win even more. Produced by its stars, it tells the tale of the most heart-wrenching domestic situations amongst a group of moms at the school gate. It’s funny, compelling and utterly addictive. I’m very sad it’s over but apparently it’s going to have a series two and I can’t wait. Guessed yet? Of course it’s Big Little Lies and it’s BRILLIANT! Highly recommended – just search on YouTube for the trailers and clips and you’ll begin to see why so many people are raving about it. Get it on catch up or box sets. Worth a lengthy period of sitting still in order to watch it all! It’s raised some life-changing topics though – see below for my take on it.
Book of the week
OMG – and another piece of genius this week. Am cheating a bit as I’m reviewing an advance copy, but I couldn’t resist. Do you ever like being the first to discover something? Here’s a BRILLIANT new author, debut launches April, and a BRILLIANT new book. AJ Pearce is a genius. #wartime #agonyaunt #10/10 for ‘Dear Mrs Bird’ – thoroughly enjoyed writing this up as Book of the Week on my website. Also read a really unexciting ghost story by one of my favourite authors Sarah Waters – but ‘The Little Stranger’ is not like any of her others that I’ve read so far. Skipped through the last few chapters as it got a bit predictable. Sad it wasn’t so good, but hopefully her next one will be… Anyway, it’s out 5th April but clutching my precious copy, I sat having THE most relaxing time in my house in Devon in front of the roaring wood burner and enjoyed every single second…

1980s top kid’s telly
So this week in a poll by the Radio Times it seems much of the best telly for children – ever – happened in the 1980s. Blue Peter and Grange Hill appear near the top. Of course our own guest Linda Magistris was one of the key actors back then – this is her in the middle at the front of her pic. What was your fave? Kid’s TV in the 80s is dear to me since I made my debut replacing Philip Schofield in 1986, in the Children’s BBC broom cupboard introducing the afternoon children’s programmes. Then I had a baby – my son Brad – and my career trajectory changed…! The rest, as they say is history!
Congrats to Leigh and Bryan!
This lovely joyous post appeared this week on Facebook; it seems there are babies in the air at the moment! (My own grandchild is due soon – doesn’t seem real!) Lovely Leigh from Tarte cosmetics has had her first baby, a little boy – congrats to all!
Outfit of the Week
This is very, very comfy top is from Denim & Co., it’s £29.50, on 2 Easy Pay and in two different colours. Ever so comfy to wear as it’s very stretchy. I hope to wear it again on air at some point. I am in the medium in this pic, (I am a 14/16 high street) but for a more roomy fit, a large would be fine. Whole denim & co range clearance or outlet stocks are here – go check out the bargains
Point to Ponder
A new feature for you this year instead of Facebook funny. Here is this weeks’, sticking with the kids theme! Who knew – fancy that!
Help available if you’re a Celeste
Just a final note about Big Little Lies – considering some of the dark abusive content of the storylines, I’m proud that some of the posts I’ve been writing on my website and Facebook have helped people who find themselves in a similar position, but are being emotionally rather than physically bullied. If you come across a narcissistic psychopath in your life, or someone else’s, just go on YouTube and search some of the help videos on that topic, and you’ll see you’re not alone – you can read examples that will strike close to home and make you realise others have been through it and there is a way out. I incorporated some of these examples in my various blogs on the subject on my website, and have been very glad to hear lots of stories from people who had a happy ending. After years of being made to feel small, they talked about having finally had their ‘aha’ moment, got out and found the love of their life. I enjoyed including them in my blogs and wish those people well now they’ve got their lives back. Never give up. The #timesup campaign relates to this too. The more people know about it, the better. Find my posts and share them – even if it helps one person it’s worth it. And well done Nicole Kidman and co for their off screen work on the topic too – some of her speeches have been phenomenal. And every little helps.
Apart from Big Little Lies, I went to the cinema to see All the Money in the World, the John Paul Getty III kidnap story. This is the one that was recast with Christopher Bloom replacing Kevin Spacey. Michelle Williams steals the screen, even from solid performer Mark Wahlberg. I thought it was very well done, a bit gory (we all know about the ear, right?) but because we know what happens, it’s more a case of seeing how they portray it rather than wondering what happens in the end. A few surprises but not one I’d see again. 7.5/10.
Looking forward already to next week’s booking – Wendy and I are going to see the new award winning Churchill film, Darkest Hour – can’t wait!
