Beating the January blues and continuing my resolutions

Debbie's Tiffany Style lamp This week I read in the papers that the third Monday in January is notorious for being the most depressing day of the year, for all sorts of reasons.

One of the main ones, though, may be that the cheery yuletide decor is no longer around to lift our spirits, and the home looks so bare with the decorations and lights all packed away for another year.

Well I realised that, yes, the fairy lights may have gone but I have a solution! My lounge is still warm and welcoming every time I turn on my Tiffany Style lights! My favourite is the teapot.

But I'd love the shoe/umbrella combo or the sleeping cat! I wonder if they make a Labrador Tiffany Style lamp. I'll have to ask – I'm doing a show on Wednesday 26th January!

Lauren's-messy-bedroom300 My daughter Lauren also had a bit of a revamp this week too, but it wasn't quite how she'd planned it. I've mentioned before how messy she is. Well her housemates think the same, apparently! This is what her bedroom was like when she left for a shopping trip last week.

Lauren's-tidy-bedroom300 Imagine her surprise when she returned to find that the 'house-tidying elves' had been. This was the incredible sight that confronted her when she opened her bedroom door.
(empty bedroom pic)

Her housemates had cleared out absolutely everything, and put it in bin bags in the downstairs shower room – out of sight, out of mind and out of Lauren's bedroom! Hah, well done lads. They chose to boldly go where no Mummy has gone before.

Needless to say she was forced to tidy it all up, finally! Maybe miracles will happen and she'll keep it that way.

My own resolutions, including de-cluttering the lounge, are continuing as planned -and having had my Mum over to stay for a few days and having taken her home again yesterday, it feels like I've finally got my house back as I want it in order to be able to continue writing my novel. That's the plan anyway…

However, this year I'm also resolving to definitely continue with the rewarding and sometimes challenging concept, which my friend Kipling Kerena introduced me to last year.

Every month you do at least one thing you've never, ever done before. It can be something simple like watching a foreign film at the cinema, or like trying a new way of cooking. Or more dramatic, like flying over the Grand Canyon or learning a new language. This month I'm planning to visit the 'salt cave' in Wandsworth – ever been there?

Do you fancy joining me each month on my blog and trying something completely new? Then feeding back to me on here how you've got on? We should think of a name for this concept! The 'something' club… Hmmmmm

See you next week for news of what happened in the salt cave!

Best wishes

    Hi Deb,
Your daughters bedroom looks like you have let Houdini in there for an hour. Yes January even February are depressing months, I suppose we feel flat after Christmas etc.
I love my Tiffany lamps as well, and they do cheer you up, the favourite one I have is the Peacock. Yes a Labrador one would be good.
I have been having a tidy up, would much rather be out with the dogs. I have not made any New Year resolutions, will have to think about that one, I do want to get my young dogs out in to some working tests this year, must commit myself to much more training. With regard to the dogs, I did answer your questions with regard to the dogs season on your other blog, maybe you have not seen it yet. They are in season for three weeks, I have another bitch in now, just one more to go, cant decide whether to breed from her now, or when she next comes in, have a super working dog in mind, a fried owns him.
Our dogs will be bored in a weeks time, no more shooting days, will have to get on to the training and get them out in to the working tests.
Let me know what you decide on with regard to trying something new, and I will join you, as long as it does not involve housework, or paperwork. Anyway will be interested to hear or any ideas. Keep in touch.
    Love Jean xxxx.

    Hi Debbie,
How hilarious that Lauren’s housemates did that to her! The poor girl! Clearly she has a sense of humour though! Not so sure how I would have coped with it though! Can’t wait to hear what the salt caves are like. You do do some really interesting things! Never a dull moment being friends with you I’m sure! I love that philosophy of doing something new every year though and try to do that myself. Something small..or big! Any news on your new snow wheels by the way?! Love to know!
    Take care,
    Susan x

    Hi Debbie,
I think that is a great idea doing something that you have never done before every month. It was my sons special birthday on the 13th January and we went to the theatre in London and had tea at the Ritz absolutely FAB!!!! I think that counts as January taken care of, can’t wait to see what February brings????
Love your tiffany lamps, is the large one called the Mission? Was thinkng about buying it ages ago but thought it might have been a bit too big.
How about… just try something new club? Simples!!
    Best wishes
    Janet x

jean – will try to find your reply – best thing is to put a message on old blog saying ‘will post reply to this on blog week commencing….’ , or on the main one at the top. We dont get a notification of any old ones being added and as you can imagine it’d be a nightmare to check every blog every week! lol
yes doggies are hard work for sure!!

Susan – snow wheels are a no-go still I’m afraid – haven’t pursued it hugely but I know I should for when the bad weather comes back! Funny isn’t it – we’re in rotten drizzle and rain yet it’s not ‘bad’ compared to minus temps and snow and ice we don’t mind!
Yes am looking fwd to salt caves – going on Fri 28th using my Wahanda voucher. They have some great ideas for new things to do if u sign up to emails.
    Will report back soon.
