It’s hard to believe that this time 23 years ago, I was feeling excited and nervous in equal measure with my ‘new’ job in television about to start.
Although QVC UK’s 23rd birthday is not officially until October 1st, the original seven presenters met up for the first time on September 4th for a promotional photo session, followed by four weeks of intense training before we went live and began to change the way the nation shops.
I wonder how many of you remember the originals?
I have recently got back in touch with Suzanne and Katy thanks to Kara setting up a Facebook group for the QVC ‘originals’. I had always stayed in contact with Paul and, to a lesser extent, Jon; sadly Steve passed away several years ago.We are planning to have a get together when diaries permit. To celebrate my anniversary with QVC, I’m having a competition for someone to win 23 beauty products further down the page.
There were celebrations of a different kind last Tuesday – it was ‘im indoors’ birthday. Due to my swollen toe, I hadn’t had shoes on my feet for a week, but I managed to get my Birkenstock EVA flip flops on to go out for a meal on Tuesday night. Sophie took some amusing photos of her dad using an app on her iPhone. Which one do you like best?
I had managed to make the obligatory chocolate birthday cake in between icing, elevating and salt soaking my foot so we enjoyed that for pudding when we got home.
Talking of time flying, is it really September already?
Well, apparently yes according to ‘Mango’ on my yoga cat calendar. Anyone else think this is a bit of a weird one? – I’m not sure I like it.
I used to be able to do a lotus position but I won’t be attempting it for a while with my poorly foot.
You may notice that September 12th is ringed on my calendar.
That is the date my short story is published. It’s a first for me and also a first for Chris (‘im indoors) and my daughter, Sophie, to design a cover.
What do you think? The clock is actually on our kitchen wall and gets a mention in ‘Time for a Short Story.’ Go to the usual place if you’d like to pre-order – it’s under 8,000 words so a quick read if you are time starved.
Last week I was missing from Fashion on Friday, but I’m back today for an hour of Kipling.
I also like the sound of the faux suede dress but I haven’t seen an image of it yet – maybe I’ll wear it on Sunday.
So Sunday is our fabulous Elemis Today’s Special Value – it is available to purchase from 5pm today if you want to be sure to get it.
I don’t normally like face washes much, as I find them quite drying, but the Biotec one is fabulous and smells divine.
Combine that with the Biotec Day Cream and Oxygenating Night Cream, and you have a recipe for beautiful smooth skin – I’m a big fan and really like the silver bag it all comes presented in.
As it is the Today’s Special Value on ‘my’ QVC 23rd anniversary, I thought the competition question should be relevant to Elemis.
So, to be in with a chance of winning the twenty-three piece beauty hamper , worth approximately £600 and featuring some of the longest established beauty brands on QVC, simply answer this question:
All you have to do is comment with A, B or C on here before midnight on Thursday 8th to enter. A winner will be randomly selected and announced here next Friday – good luck. See our full standard terms and conditions online here.
My competition is now closed, keep an eye on future blog posts for more competitions.
Well, I must head off to work now – see you at 2pm for Peony flowers if you’re around and for two 9am gardening shows over this weekend.
