There’s a Pixie in my Christmas tree!

24

The annual climbing of the Christmas tree! Out of my four cats it's only Pixie who does this and she's very good at it, too. Mind you, in this video you can see she gets to a point where she really doesn't quite know what to do next so I had to stop filming and help my lovely girl down.

Just thought you might enjoy watching this little clip. It also offers the opportunity to chuckle at the 'Jedward' fairy at the top of the tree. It was done as a joke but they're still up there! This came about because ours has gone AWOL.

Please get in touch if you've seen her. She's very beautiful and wears a sparkly pink gown with wonderful chiffon wings. I suspect she got fed up with Pixie looking up ker dress from inside the tree and she's decided to fly off to a catless home this year.

This tree has been one of my all time best buys from QVC! Bought it several years ago on four Easy Payments for around £170. It's already pretty much paid for itself and we plan to keep it for many more years.

In addition to this I have a wreath, which looks like the real thing, and has colour-changing fibre optics running through it. It has served me well all these years and hangs on the front door with pride as I sit here typing.

You might have noticed the Thomas Pacconi ornaments too. I bought those around the same time and they bring back old memories of the previous years each time they are brought out.

Please write in and tell me about some of your best ever QVC Christmas-themed buys.

Lots of love,

Catherine x

Oh bless – that’s so cute. If mine did that (and given half a chance they try to) the tree would be over, They are both big Tonkinese – Caspar is solid blue and the spitting image of Dinky – albeit about twice the size – he’s such a bruiser, (but a complete Mummy’s boy!. His sister, Juno (aka Tinker or Tigerlily), is the most perfect tiger striped and leopard spot tabby – and has the most atrocious language (I think she has Touerettes) but usually only directed at her brother. I could ramble on about my kits for hours……

    Hi Catherine
How cute does pixie look with those ‘ what have i done wrong’ eyes…hehe
i’ve recently got a new kitten, a boy…and he’s very mischievous so i’m waiting for him to work out the climbing of the tree.
as i’m typing he’s staring up at me with these big green eyes…bless
quick question…i already have a female cat who is nearly 2yrs old. The problem is she doesnt seem to be taking to the new kitten. We’ve had him home for nearly 2 weeks now and still Missy (the older cat) is hissing and growling at Alfie at every moment. She’s moping around the house looking really sad. I want the old missy back.
What were your cats like when you brought new kittens home?
    love and hugs

Hi Catherine. Pixie is absolutely gorgeous!! Thankfully, neither of my two (Rossi & Casey) have actually climbed the tree yet, but Casey wedges herself underneath it and sleeps there for hours. As for naughty Rossi, she climbs on to the back the sofa and bats around for ages until she gets one of my feather decorations off. As a result, all the feathers are now at the very top of the tree and it looks awful!! They are such funny creatures, I can put up with their naughtiness as they are my world (my husband feels quite differently though!!). Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. Are you visiting Wales at all? By the way, I luuurve your hair – it’s fab!! Very chic, and I am very jealous as growing out a summer crop :-(
Merry Christmas to you and your family (especially the pusses!!)
    Love,
    Natasha, Rossi & Casey

    Hi Hazel,
You made me chuckle to myself hearing about your little lot. I love robust cats…well I love them all but have a serious soft spot for the rotund variety. My Popsiecat is a chubby Bristish Shorthair. She’s Pixie’s sister but I think Pixie was the runt of the litter. Pops looks like a typical BSH but Pix is much skinnier with the cutest lil pink nose!
Yours sound lovely and it’s great to be in touch with so many other cat lovers through my blog. I never get tired of hearing about kittycats and their funny ways.
I hope you all have a magical and purr filled Christmas!
    Lots of love,

    Hi Lynn,
Jovi sounds a bundle of fun…and mischief. I guess it’s all a part of a cat’s job description!
I hope that your tree is now upstanding once again and she hasn’t managed to wrestle it to the floor again but how funny! Isn’t it weird how we can forgive them anything?
Merry Christmas to all of you, have a great time.
    Lots of love,

    Hi Catherine
Loved the picture of Pixie-thank goodness Lexi can’t do that. She just sniffs the presents under the tree thinking they’re all hers-the majority are!! because she can’t have treats/chews she’s had all fluffy toys, it’s worse than when my Daughter was young. She’s eating her new food by the way-fingers crossed!!
Would prefer your hair as it is now-nothing to do with fact I have mine very similar even the colour.
Ordered Decleor whilst you were on today, I love Hydra Floral as I have very sensitive skin find it’s better than anything else I’ve tried. It’s a shame it was near the end of your hour as I would have loved to have spoken to you, next time maybe!!
Will let you know about Les Mis-weather permitting!!

    Hello Bev,
Your new little one, Alfie, sounds absolutely adorable. Missy’s behaviour sounds very similar to Popsie’s when we got Dinkycat. I must admit to feeling like I think you do..a bit guilty and concerned for the unhappy one.
In my experience this lessened over time..don’t get me wrong, the two don’t sit and cuddle together but then Popsie was never like that with the others anyway so it could just be that Missy is more of a loner and it’ll just take a little time to get used to the new arrangement. I personally think she’ll come around but if in any doubt try having a look at the Cats Protection League website, Battersea cats and dogs or RSPCA as they all have advice regarding this.
Just like a real human family at Christmas, eh? Fur flying and the occasional hiss, hee hee!
Good luck with your babies and have a wonderful Christmas!
    Lots of love,
    Catherine x

    Hi Denise,
I’m so pleased you liked the video. I could blog about my cats forever! They’re always up to mischief but always forgiven!
Pixie is climbing into a plastic bag as I am typing this! Hee hee, she’s simply adorable..oooh now Dinky is pouncing on to Pixie in the bag! Honestly, this house is totally nutty and I wouldn’t have it any other way :-)
I hope you & yours have a great Christmas and happy new year.
    Much love,

Hi Natasha (and the pusscats of course..oh and the long suffering husband!)
Rossi & Casey’s capers have had me chuckling, especially the fact that you’ve had to shift your decs to the top of the tree, the inage just makes me laugh every time I think of it, so funny what we do for them!
We hope to get to Wales but we have family spread around all over so may have to stagger our visits over into the new year.
Thank you for your kind words about the hair, too! Just had to take the plunge and Johnny from Ojon couldn’t wait to transform me! Wish I could keep him in my dressing room to do my hair daily, he’s a star.
I hope you and yours have a wonderful time this Christmas and new year.
    Lots of love,

    Hi Julie (and darling Lexi),
Yes, it is a good job Lexi can’t climb trees or you may have broken limbs to contend with on top of everything else!
I’m so glad to hear the new food is finally going down ok. What a little star adapting so fast.
Thanks for the kind words regarding the new hairstyle. I now have more of a picture in my head of how you look, too, as you have such a similar style, hee hee.
I do hope the weather doesn’t hinder your Les Mis trip! I’ll keep everything crossed for you!
Keep warm & well. Chat soon.
    Lots of love,
    Catherine x

How sweet! My cats like to steal chocs off tree and just leave the foil and string hanging there, so I can no longer put chocs on tree much to my daughter’s disgust!

    Hello Paula,
How mischievous they can all be! So funny that they leave the wrappers there.
I hope you all have a very happy Christmas!

    Hi Catherine
Just to keep you updated, guess who’s come down with a cold/chest infection so won’t be going to see Les Mis?
Also we had an unexpected load of snow last night so roads are really bad and are expected to get worse tomorrow with black ice. Just my luck eh? My Daughter’s still going though so tomorrow night I’ll be on pins until I know she’s safe. Although she couldn’t get into work today due to the weather-at least I didn’t have to worry!! “Chidren” always a worry aren’t they?
    Will keep in touch,take care

    Hi Steven,
Jedward are sweet angels! Look at it this way…it could’ve been Timmy Mallett! Mind you, I even quite like him.
I think by putting Jedward up we have no hope of our fairy returning..I think they’ve scared her off!
I hope you have a fab Christmas with lots of smiles.

    Hi Julieannarose,
What a very pretty name you have. Lovely to hear from you. Your Pickles sounds so cute. I think our cats, rather than being a nuisance, actually add to the decorative element of the Christmas! Like live decorations that move, hee hee!
    Have a very happy Christmas.
Lots of love from Catherine x

    Hi Julie,
Aww, I’m so sorry you’re poorly and missing Les Mis. Best to get well, though, health is the most important thing so get well as soon as possible!
I’m sure your daughter will love it so much that she will take you another time. It’s the kind of thing you can see over & over again.
My daughter and her friend had tickets to see Jimmy Carr as a Christmas present yesterday but there were no trains or buses running from where we live and the cars were gridlocked on our road for hours. She was quite upset because she had saved to buy the tickets for herself and her friend but I’ll be able to help her sort something else – we mums are great at being ‘supermum to the rescue’!
I do hope you can stay cosy and warm and not worry too much about your girl tonight. I should think that everything will be superslow on the roads and public transport so the only worry is delays, really. But I would be the same as all mums would! Part of the job description is to worry, eh?
    Have a wonderful Christmas.
    Lots of love Catherine x

Aww, isnt Pixie so cute? My cat is 18 and a half now, but still acts like a kitten, she jumps onto the kitchen worktops (hubby is horrified, I just spray the anti bac!!) but she has never tackled the christmas tree!!
    Merry Christmas to everyone!!

    Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for writing in. Wow, 18 years, that’s fantastic! Great to hear she still acts like she did in her kitten days, too.
Ours get everywhere, too. When they get on the worktops when people are here we act all surprised ‘Oh, you naughty little Pixie, whatever are you doing up there?’. Hee hee.
Thanks for the vote of confidence on the hair, too. Very kind.
I hope you & yours have a beautiful time over Christmas and new year.
    Lots of love,

    Hi Bridget,
Thanks for reminding me of this video! I hadn’t watched it in ages! How wonderful you work for the CPL. Such a wonderful thing to do, thank goodness for people like you! Must be so tough at times but so rearding to know you are making a difference. Keep up the good work.
Funny hearing about your little Pixie reacting to the video! How adorable! They are so therapeutic to have around, aren’t they? Even when being mischievous I find a lot of pleasure in watching them! Like climbing Christmas trees!
Thanks for your kind words about me on tv. I feel I stumble on my words and make a fool of myself sometimes but people tell me it just shows I’m human and as you said ‘natural’ and ‘down to earth’. It’s a nice way to think of it so thank you so much for saying that. It makes me feel much better about my silly moments, hee hee!!
Take care and give those lovely pusscats a purrr from all at Chez Huntley!
