I have spent almost half my life with QVC and I guess out of everything it has been the one thing that has remained constant.
There have been many hairy moments, especially in the early days when we were really flying by the seat of our pants. I remember when we had a fire, everyone was evacuating the building, there was I thinking I'm live on air I can't go anywhere! Eventually someone came and got me out! Then there was the day a pan of broccoli landed on my feet and then I forgot to put the top on a food mixer. That was a mess!!
The days of Karaoke were my favourite. I loved it when the whole crew dressed up and for five whole minutes we became The Village People! My highlight has to be shaving my producers Geoff's head! We were selling hair clippers and in those days rarely had models and he did volunteer! I think I may have had it on the wrong setting but like true professionals we carried on regardless but I have never laughed so much!
When I joined QVC I was a single lady. Then of course there was Jilly's Wedding and for those of you who remember it I must apologise for what must have seemed the longest wedding in history! I did enjoy the build though with an eight week mini series of hair and beauty shows Alison Young being her usual witchy poo self! It was great fun, and then having the QVC camera's at the wedding and a six page spread in OK magazine were memories to treasure forever! After three years I had my son Taylor and he came on air a week later to say hello to you all and then the week after that I was back for gold day!
Unfortunately less than a year later I lost my beloved Dad. I was on air that night when he was taken unwell to hospital and I ran out of the studio. Luckily I made it in time but sadly he passed away later that evening. Everyone was so kind but it was really hard to come to terms with his loss and QVC really kept me going. I then struggled to have a second child and suffered a miscarriage on air one night, which was awful but luckily after another couple of miscarriages one of which was a very scary, I managed to have my little girl Cassidy who is now nine.
I did cut down my days at QVC after the children were born because I believe you need to try and find a balance in life. I have never had a nannie or a cleaner and I have to say sometimes the house is a tip! My husband is brilliant and I couldn't manage without him, especially when he has worked a full week and it's Friday night he comes in and I literally swan of to work leaving him to do everything! Sometimes on the school run I look horrendous only having had about three hours sleep, but everyone knows it really isn't worth trying to have a conversation with me until at least eleven!
It's a very tight set schedule, but it's the only way I can make it work. I try to be the best Mum I can and I genuinely, even after nearly 20 years, I can honestly say I love QVC. The people I work with are the best in the business and it is a huge part of my life.
Thank you for watching and shopping with us and here's to the next 20 years!!!!!
