The Last 20 years!!

11

OK Magazine 1997Wow, I can't believe that we have finally reached that 20 year milestone and having joined QVC just three months after they launched that makes me feel very, very old indeed!

I have spent almost half my life with QVC and I guess out of everything it has been the one thing that has remained constant.

There have been many hairy moments, especially in the early days when we were really flying by the seat of our pants. I remember when we had a fire, everyone was evacuating the building, there was I thinking I'm live on air I can't go anywhere! Eventually someone came and got me out! Then there was the day a pan of broccoli landed on my feet and then I forgot to put the top on a food mixer. That was a mess!!

The days of Karaoke were my favourite. I loved it when the whole crew dressed up and for five whole minutes we became The Village People! My highlight has to be shaving my producers Geoff's head! We were selling hair clippers and in those days rarely had models and he did volunteer! I think I may have had it on the wrong setting but like true professionals we carried on regardless but I have never laughed so much!

When I joined QVC I was a single lady. Then of course there was Jilly's Wedding and for those of you who remember it I must apologise for what must have seemed the longest wedding in history! I did enjoy the build though with an eight week mini series of hair and beauty shows Alison Young being her usual witchy poo self! It was great fun, and then having the QVC camera's at the wedding and a six page spread in OK magazine were memories to treasure forever! After three years I had my son Taylor and he came on air a week later to say hello to you all and then the week after that I was back for gold day!

Unfortunately less than a year later I lost my beloved Dad. I was on air that night when he was taken unwell to hospital and I ran out of the studio. Luckily I made it in time but sadly he passed away later that evening. Everyone was so kind but it was really hard to come to terms with his loss and QVC really kept me going. I then struggled to have a second child and suffered a miscarriage on air one night, which was awful but luckily after another couple of miscarriages one of which was a very scary, I managed to have my little girl Cassidy who is now nine.

I did cut down my days at QVC after the children were born because I believe you need to try and find a balance in life. I have never had a nannie or a cleaner and I have to say sometimes the house is a tip! My husband is brilliant and I couldn't manage without him, especially when he has worked a full week and it's Friday night he comes in and I literally swan of to work leaving him to do everything! Sometimes on the school run I look horrendous only having had about three hours sleep, but everyone knows it really isn't worth trying to have a conversation with me until at least eleven!

It's a very tight set schedule, but it's the only way I can make it work. I try to be the best Mum I can and I genuinely, even after nearly 20 years, I can honestly say I love QVC. The people I work with are the best in the business and it is a huge part of my life.

Thank you for watching and shopping with us and here's to the next 20 years!!!!!

Jilly x

    Hi Jilly
This is only the second time I have posted on the blogs (my first a few minutes ago on Marverine’s).
Sounds like you manage to have a happy family life together with your QVC family life and I must say you look absolutely gorgeous on it.
I look forward to seeing you when you are next on the TV.

    Hi Jilly
lovely blog this week, I remember all those programmes leading up to your wedding they were great. I didnt realise all the problems you had had with pregnancies though, that must have been difficult, I do remember you once being taken ill on air, I guess that was the time. I always enjoy watching you on air, and reading your blogs, long may you stay with us on air.
    best wishe

    Hi Jilly,
I think you’re great and I’m sure you know that from my posts! I am so sad to learn of your Dad’s passing like that and also your trauma through your miscarriages..especially on live tv. You’re amazing to cope with all that. I remember you having Taylor and my you looked amazing after just having given birth! Congratualtions on 20 years to you too!

Lovely blog full of memories jilly, hard to believe its 20 years and like julia qvc is such a huge part of your life. Great to have such positive times amongst the sadness though. I joined qvc 10 years ago and can’t believe that. It may seem mad that a shopping channel can become a big part of someone’s life, but being house bound with disability I view it as having friends every day.
Main reason for leaving you a message was to say how much I enjoyed seeing you dance with Vincent yesterday. Also with Craig! It was a real treat to have the couple on and see their fab dancing.
Keep on doing what you do best,
    Best wishes Diane x

    Hi Jilly,
I haven’t read your Blog before (sorry!) but I thought I’d take a peak today and you come across as such a lovely, warm person. This is exactly how you come across on screen and I know that Ali Young thinks you’re great as I did see the show nearly 5 years ago for the celebration of your 15 years! Where does the time go?
I am sure your two children think they’ve got the best Mum in the world and they’re right!
From my own experience when I was very ill a few years ago, both my sister and brother were living abroad at the time and I was single. If it hadn’t been for my parents, friends AND work, it would have been hard to keep going.
You take care and I hope you stay with QVC for many more years! (I’ve been a viewer on and off for over 17 years).
