I’ve been less seen on screen over the last couple of weeks as I booked off my remaining holiday allowance for this year in order to throw myself into working on my house. Mind you, I’ve still popped in for a few days in-between for a few additional shifts at work. It’s been a welcome relief from working on the house as I always miss QVC if I’m away for longer than a week at a time. What can I say? I truly do love my job. I know I’m very lucky to be able to say that and thank my stars daily.
I ache all over and can’t wait for the day when I can actually use my holiday allowance for an actual holiday… even if it just means sitting in the back garden doing nothing but breathing and watching my cats chase butterflies. I’m not complaining though, I know there are countless people who would swap my ‘problems’ for theirs. It’s hard work but I will finally have a little home of my own at the end of it all.
There’s absolutely no glamour involved in this project. Check out my waterproof outfit to keep me dry whilst removing ceiling paper – a very, very long and messy job! I think I resemble Captain Birdseye but a few people have mentioned the TV series Breaking Bad when they’ve seen this photo. I’ve yet to see it myself.
My nails are taking a battering in the process of all this building work, too. They’re all very short now. I’ve been regularly applying my OPI Nail Envy but like them to be glam when I get a chance to go out or be on-screen. I’ve been trying out a new set which is coming to QVC from OPI and I am head over heels in love with it! Infinite Shine Gel Lacquer System is coming on the 25th March with Alison Young. It’s so glossy, super long-wearing (even on a building site) and, I find, the glossy top coat dries even faster than their RapiDry top coat. Seriously, don’t miss this one, what’s not to love?!
Speaking of love… I hope you all enjoyed Mother’s Day. I completely appreciate it’s a very difficult day for those who are unable to celebrate with their mums, my heart goes out to you. I find Father’s Day a little tough for the same reasons. I was very lucky to have time with my mum and my two children. I treated us to a naughty takeaway and we all cozied up at mum’s house with our cats.
Until the building work is done my mum is being Pixiecat & Popsiecat’s surrogate mummy. We regularly visit the cats and, of course, my mum. I was treated to some lovely pressies from Tom and Chrissie, and even received a surprise delivery at my work from a puzzling ‘Mr E’ (Mister E = mystery – geddit?!) wishing me a happy Mother’s Day! Still none the wiser but it was a lovely gesture.
I’m very blessed to have some amazing friends in my life who have allowed me to do some sofa surfing whilst I’m working on the house. As Julie Andrews sang in The Sound of Music, “somewhere in my youth or childhood I must have done something good”. I never stop counting my blessings. I will say, however, that one of the biggest treats I’m looking forward to once the house is done is having my own comfy bed back out of storage. My bath and my bed are two of my most soul-centring, calming places of sanctuary.
I was lucky enough to be given a Kelly Hoppen Today’s Special Value to try ahead of the launch at midnight on Tuesday night. I tried it on my friend’s bed and it looked nice but it really made me pine for my own. It’s going to look stunning and it feels so cosy I’m sure the cats will love it too! It’s a reversible bedspread of faux mink on one side and satin on the reverse and features an embroidered chain link design on both sides.
If you’re a fan of Kelly’s you’ll love this TSV. Kelly Hoppen is a leading British interior designer who not only has won many awards for her work but has worked with many celebrities to create luxurious, timeless interiors for their homes. You may also have seen her as one of the investors on Dragon’s Den. This is fantastic value at under £50 for a designer high quality luxurious bedcover – a small price to pay for an adaptation of a design used in many of Kelly’s projects – and this is an ideal piece to begin achieving the look without having to transform the whole room. There are four neutral calming colours to choose from, including a powder Blue, Taupe and Ivory, as well as the ever popular Blush which I chose to try; gorgeous! Our last Kelly Hoppen bedspread TSV was in November 2014 (the origami reversible) and has generated plenty of five star reviews. It’s great to know it not only looks good but is easy to care for and machine washable at 30 degrees. I’d recommend getting in early.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you. I hope those of you who have given The Body Rescue Plan a try are still getting on great. I heard a great saying the other day to better explain what the plan is when people ask if it’s a diet. Instead of being a die-it, it’s a live-it. As in a way of life. Hope you’re living yours to the full!
