Firstly, thanks so much for all your heart warming messages on last week’s blog and apologies for not replying yet but I have been up to my neck in proof reading and designing the cover for my novel…I will pop a picture of it on next week’s blog. I am so grateful to Debbie Flint for putting me in touch with her cover designer, Angela, as her interpretation of my ideas and the synopsis of the story is perfect in my opinion.
I will get on top of my replies to you all over the weekend as I’m on holiday so have a little more time than usual. Just had to show you this picture I took of the hotel pool through a series of mirrors around the entertainment area – it’s the best selfie I have ever taken!
Mind you, yesterday morning I was wondering if we had made the right holiday destination choice. We were woken up by a thunderstorm, the skies were a leaden grey until about 3pm and it was probably cooler than it has been in the UK for the past week or so. We did manage to get out for a walk in the late afternoon and ran into this little fellow…is it Wilfie’s long-lost brother? The only difference is that this chap has a little white star on his chest.
In a way the weather did me a favour as I didn’t mind sitting in our hotel room checking for missing commas and rogue extra words in my manuscript. I hope I caught them all as I get very frustrated when I see mistakes in books, particularly as it will have been scrutinised by many pairs of eyes if it has been published in the traditional way.
As I am self-publishing the checking process has been down to me and it is amazing how many little things you miss when you have been concentrating on the story rather than the text. I am excited and nervous in equal measure, hoping that those of you who read it will enjoy it.
So today dawned with beautiful blue skies and this morning I have been sitting relaxing by the pool and enjoying the view from the hotel terrace. There don’t seem to be many people staying at the moment but I guess that is because the season is not yet underway fully in Northern Cyprus.
So why have we come here rather than somewhere with guaranteed sunshine? Well, as most of you probably know, Keeley from Elemis now lives here and travels back to the UK to do her QVC shows. I have been promising to come and visit for three years so better late than never. We are going to her house for dinner tonight (I can’t wait to see her) so I will post some pictures next week.
We are not the only Brits visiting the area as, although there were a lot of Turkish people on our flight, at one point a gentleman, Charlie, came over and asked if I was Julia. It turns out that Charlie’s wife, Dawn, is an avid fan of QVC and had recognised me, even with no make-up on at all!
I wonder if she would have recognised these two characters in the hotel bar? I keep thinking they are real every time I pass the entrance. I can’t decide if I think they are meant to be Laurel and Hardy or the Blues Brothers…what do you think?
Well I’m off outside now, well-protected with my Ultrasun 50 face and 20 body, and I may even risk a dip in the pool.
Have a lovely weekend and see you next Friday
