Going out on a school night? Discover our top beauty hacks to transform your look from day to night without budging from your desk.
A skin pick-me-up
If you want to re-do your base, begin with Bobbi Brown’s Intensive Skin Foundation and Face Mist. A silky, lightweight foundation that will help to moisturise your complexion and leave it with a dewy finish, so even if you applied foundation in the morning, it won’t sit on top and look heavy or cakey.
The face mist is ideal for lightly hydrating your skin before application, and spritzing on afterwards to help the foundation stay put.
Add a bronzed glow to your canvas by applying a few drops of Perricone’s No Bronzer Bronzer. It’s a light, liquid formula that glides on easily in seconds, and you can build to get your desired colour and coverage. Use a Benefit Lip and Cheek Tint to add colour to the apples of your cheeks, and – if time is of the essence – apply to your lips as well!
A great base product to keep in your desk drawer is Nudestix’s sculpting set – with a contouring pencil at one end and a highlighting pencil at the other, plus a concealer stick, it’s great for any touch ups, and for adding in some cocktail-appropriate cheekbones.
And let’s not forget the brows! It Cosmetics have an on point brow tool for giving a little extra volume without going OTT – perfect to take a look from day to evening. Comb through with the spoolie brush then flick the pencil upwards, following your natural hair growth. Then brush through again with the spoolie to blend. Voila!
Go bold or go home
The easiest way to make your look stand out post office hours is to go for a bold lipstick – the classic, instant way to up the ante. Eve Pearl’s lipstick shades have caught our eye recently, and they come with a gloss so you can customise – go for a sleek or a matte finish.
If lipstick’s not your bag, eye make-up needn’t be fiddly or take a long time. Tarte’s Liner and Shadow Sticks are another handy desk drawer companion. With a liner on one end and a cream shadow at the other, it’s quick and easy to add in anything from a smokey smudge to a bolder colour, with minimal blending required. Finish by slicking on Pixi’s Mascara – it comes with a primer so helps to pick out and separate every lash – and you’re good to go.
How about that hair?
Hair looking dire after a day being beaten around by the air conditioning? If flat or tired hair is your issue, the quickest, easiest pick-me-up comes in the form of dry shampoo. Percy & Reed’s helps to volumise and smells great as well.
If your hair has gone fluffy or frizzy, has a kink from being tied up all day, or you just want a sleek finish, the Dafni Straightening Brush is your new best friend. Run through your hair with slightly more tension than a regular brush, and you’re left with smoother, more styled tresses. Finish off with the Nutritive Encapsulate serum by Nexxus if you want to go sleeker.
Remove an old nail polish in mere minutes with Nails Inc’s Remover Pots.
Then for a speedy flash of colour, Little Ondine’s polishes go on super-easy and dry in five minutes flat – sorted. Plus, if you need to remove a glitzy colour for work the next day, they peel right off, making them potentially easier to take off than your make-up! These shades are perfect to add glamour to your daywear.
And… done! Dancefloor – or dinner, or drinks – ready in no time at all. Choose a couple of products to elevate your make-up, or use all for a pretty fabulous transformation.
