The QVC team test the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer!

4

A little while ago, we launched the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer to rave reviews (check out all those stars!). And with the exciting release of the new purple nickel shade you’ll only find at QVC, we thought it was about time to test it for ourselves and see what all the fuss was about.

Step forward, the Copy Team! With a range of hair types and textures, this lovely bunch were more than willing to put the Supersonic through its paces and report back on their results.

Read on for their thoughts… let’s just say they’ve officially joined the Dyson fan club!

Fine hair: Lesley, Cosmetics Copywriter

I’ve always had fairly lacklustre, soft hair that sits flat on my head and refuses to hold a style for longer than an hour. I wash it nearly every day as it gets quite greasy and I’m ashamed to say I blast it with my hairdryer every morning too (don’t judge me!).

For me, I love how kind the Supersonic is to hair. The intelligent heat control means I’m not exposing it to ridiculously hot temperatures, and when I’d finished up drying it, my hair looked lovely and shiny, as well as sporting a healthy dose of volume which I can report lasted the whole day! I’m totally in love!

Coloured hair: Jess, Skincare Copywriter

The Supersonic was fantastic for evenly drying my hair while keeping it looking smooth and shiny, and because I could easily regulate the temperature, I never felt like my bleached locks were getting scorched.

I used the smoothing nozzle and found it really easy to work with. I love that the Supersonic has only magnetic attachments, meaning you can quickly pop on your chosen nozzle and get to work. If you have naturally straight hair like me, this makes getting hair completely dry and sleek-looking a dream!

Thick hair: Josie, Electronics Copywriter

My hair is pretty thick, so it always takes so long to dry! I have a very decent hairdryer at the moment and it usually takes about 30 minutes non-stop drying, sometimes more.

I was desperate to try the Supersonic as I’d heard it cuts drying time in half… guys, it took FIVE MINUTES. I rough-dried my hair with the dryer, then used the smoothing nozzle at the end to control the fluffiness. I’d just come from the gym with freshly-washed hair and normally I’m there with my little travel hairdryer, losing the will to live and eventually putting in a ponytail in some semi-dry state. But not this time!

I’m totally enamoured with the Supersonic as not only did it dry my hair so much faster, it’s also lighter and very portable, meaning it will fit into my gym bag and not kill my shoulder carrying it! The purple colour is perfect too – it’ll go really well with all my brightly-coloured sports kit.

Wavy hair: Sarah, Home & Kitchen Copywriter

I’m always told I have ‘thin hair but a lot of it’. If I use product and curlers it can look very thick and healthy, if I only blow dry it, it can look frazzled, flat and dry.

The Supersonic added so much shine and volume to my hair and made it look very healthy. I used two attachments, the diffuser to define my natural waves, and the styling concentrator to flatten the frizz at the top. It looked like I’d worked a lot harder on it than I actually had.

I’m biased as purple is my favourite colour, but I love the rich, intense shade combined with the metallic grey nickel. My current hairdryer is a beast and is hidden in a drawer, taking up an annoying amount of room, but I’d have no qualms leaving this hairdryer out on my dresser.

Frizzy hair: Shiv, Jewellery Copywriter

My hair is long, quite thick and can get frizzy at times too, so it needs a lot of attention!

It takes me a long time to dry it, so I’m usually quite lazy and just rough dry it the night before and then run the straighteners over it in the morning before work. I love the way my hairdresser pulls it tight and blow drys it in the salon and I can never replicate that smooth, shiny finish at home… until I tried the Dyson – I loved it!

It took no time at all, and using the smoothing and styling attachments, my hair was shiny and straight, just like it is at the hairdressers. I love the finish and the gorgeous purple colour too – much more stylish than my boring black one.

I noticed the trial was only on long hair. We ladies with short hair rarely get a look in with any hair tools.
I would like to see a demonstration styling a short bob with a round brush.

I agree with Alexandra! I am tempted to go for the Dyson hairdryer but feel that it would be overkill for my short style.

I agree with Alexandra and margot, I have been tempted to purchase, but all the demos have been on long hair what about short hair, what benefits do we get from the dyson.

My dryer has just been delivered. I’ve got shoulder length hair – so it may not be worth me getting it. Going to give it a try though.

The most ridiculous thing happened when it was delivered though …….. the delivery man woudn’t give me the parcel until I showed him my i.d. He was delivering to my house – had to wait for me to open the door (I was inside)……… and said I couldn’t have the parcel until he saw my i.d. !! Hope this isn’t going to be a regular thing now.
