The mad scientist succeeds!

The mad scientist look So… after a lot of investigation on ‘tinternet and some failed trails and a few burnt fingertips (not good at soldering!), I've managed to create a little solar powered night light for ma chooks!

My wife took this picture of me hard at work over my circuit boards as she said it would illustrate how like my Dad I had become! I kinda get her point.

However I'm still proud of my achievement as I thought it would be a dead simple job. I almost gave up on it as it involved a lot more electronics and trips to the not so local electronics shop, before I had a workable plan.

The system now provides them with a bit of light at night and a bit more before it gets light in the morning, which hopefully gives them the minimum of 14 hours of 'daylight'required for maximum egg production.

They'll get a ‘holiday’ from this regime for a few months over Christmas and January, Chickens at bed time just to give them a rest, but at the moment they seem very happy.

Let’s hope omelette is back on the Biagi menu soon!

You may be right Julia, after all the wire, house, feed and now electronics, I think the eggs must be costing about £10 each! I wonder if they would like watching QVC on a wee TV (only joking).
